biggrin Having a great time at Fanime!! Here's the Gaia report from the panel yesterday:
At the door, we were given one gold. XD That is, we were each given one chocolate gold coin with the Gaia 'G' on the front, and Gambino on the back with the Gaia URL and 'In Gambino We Trust'. XD (Which I don't. Gambino amuses me, but I don't TRUST him.) And upon entering, Prox got a rare event! XD The admins were handing out Nerf dart guns and she got one. The sole purpose of those dart guns were for people to randomly attempt to shoot the admins during the panel. FOOLISH ADMINS! XD
Anyway, I'll run through the highlights of this awesome panel:
- We filled the room. We filled a 500-person-capacity room. O_O Jakobo had to pay L0cke five bucks. XD
- At the beginning, when they introduced Lanzer, all the other admins and devs jumped in front of him and started bowing down, and most of the room followed suit... XD
- FEATURE ANNOUNCEMENTS!: The forum rewrite was explained in GREAT detail.
biggrin People on the forums, this is what I've kept hinting at when saying that the message offline glitch will be fixed! It's going to be FREAKING AWESOME. No more message offline or archiving problems, and lots of new post types including dice rolls... this is going to make Breedables even cooler, y'all. Eeee.
- FEATURE ANNOUNCEMENTS!: The Gaia Casino IS coming!! Well, we all knew it was, but now we've seen screenshots and info and prize ideas!! It's going to be really great. Really, really great. It's going to operate like this: you'll buy tokens for the slots with gold, and then recieve tickets that you can trade in for special prize items (ones they showed off were crowns, a jester hat/collar, a Victorian white wig and more) as you collect them over time. They also showed off the new NPCs for the casino, whose names I can't remember, but they're pretty hot. Y'know. For NPCs.
- FEATURE ANNOUNCEMENTS!: Gaia Towns are also coming! This is an outgrowth of the housing system, where neighborhoods will be created so that you can put your house in a neighborhood, and move your ANIMATED! avatar around the neighborhood and speak realtime to other Gaians! It sounds VERY ambitious but looks damn cute, and I really hope they can pull it off. :3
- Other mentioned features that aren't yet in full development but ARE coming: the Quest System (after Gaia Towns), and of course the battle system. The Quest System IS going to be where we'll get our backwings from, and kaia9 yelled at us that he was going to make it SO DAMN HARD AHAHAH! XD Bring it!
- GAIA METAPLOT DEVELOPMENT!: The April 1st thing with the Von Helsons and Gambino was not a joke, y'all - it all actually happened and is part of an ongoing plot! This was to my knowledge the first in-depth explanation of Gaia metaplot ever, and it was pretty cool - they showed off concept art for Gambino's tower (L0cke was all "And YOUUUUUU all helped him build it!" and the audience cheered), for the metaplot manga (big cheers for Gino) and for the Von Helsons (mainly boos, but a few brave cheers). Gambino's tower was inspired by the Tower of Babel, especially by M.C. Escher's art of it (and, I strongly suspect, Xenogears >_>
wink and the reason it fell on Durem so perfectly? I s**t you not, ROCKET-PROPELLED BREAKAWAY SECTIONS. XD L0cke assured us that physicists had worked tirelessly on figuring out the trajectory...
wink Also, that said design was NOT done by Gambino, but by a clever mysterious architect who we'll meet later... hmmmm. The next Gaia event will continue the story!
All in all, it was very fun, and the drawing at the end gave away shirts, posters, and the final Gaia item giveaway were for DJs and ports! We did not win, sadly, despite Prox having the CLEARLY lucky number of 456123. Bah!
