Well I was buzzing about the avatar talk forum just now, checking items and such by clicking to view the users items, and I've noticed that a lot of the nicer avatars, were simpler and less expensive. Which got me to thinking, when you see an avatar that has a lot of flashy or expensive items on, but they're all jumbled and don't look very nice, are you more impressed by that avatar than a simple and well done, albeit, cheaper avatar?

It depends on your taste, some people like those avatars, but personally, I find most of the "simple and cheap avatars" in the AT forum generic and rather bland. They typically use most of the same common items, the gold anklets, plus lots of smaller common and ei items to create a style almost exactly like the others. Not to mention some of those "nice and simple" avatars are actually pretty expensive. They just use smaller accessories(also expensive) to get their effect. I like whatever looks good, although; because of budgetary restraints I refrain from buying too many expensive items.

I like avatars that look like real characters. If they have "pretty" (= matchy matchy) outfits, even better!
And sometimes very expensive avatars can be pretty impressive, too. But I've never been a fan of the "2003"-look.
You know, the typical thing with mini wings, DT, sashes and scarves? Not my thing, because most of those avatars look pretty similiar to eachother.
I like to use expensive items as well, but I often prefer a pretty and simple avatar <3
Like my current outfit. The Shibuya Nobody makes it "expensive" but it doesn't LOOK that way. I like that c:

I prefer simple, well characterized avatars, but to me that's never meant cheap. Some of my favorite "simple" avatars I've created have been into the millions. I've also seen plenty of cluttered train wrecks made from 100% commons, sponsor, and overseer items.
Of course I have also seen the every-item-over-500k-that-I-own and simple-and-cheap avatars.
I just don't think the price tag of the items on an avatar have anything to do with the creative abilities of the person behind it. 3nodding
Cheap but interesting. It doesn't have to match. Simplicity interests me more.

Having the weight of lots of gold behind you makes matching or having an awesome avatar a whole lot easier, cause you have access to many more items. If someone can do something amazing with minimal gold... I have a lot more respect for them.

Basically, it's the same thing, just done on a budget which inspires me to mentally applaud them!

I'll always enjoy wealth over matching no matter what. I always feel a tinsey bit irratated when I see an item dump...
I guess it pretty much just sums to Classiness>Wealth, although often my avatars are neither rofl

I tend to like artistic avatars. This also generally puts them on a much higher gold-scale than most but I think it's worth it in the end. Don't get me wrong, I like simple, elegant avatars too but I love creating a Snow Queen or a Dryad or something wonderfully stunning.

That being said, throwing on items just to look rich = the dumb
Sometimes those expensive avis look really nice, but you're right.
My favourites are matching ones, cute ones and themed ones. The people who make these avis want the right texture, right shades, etc, and if they find the right item, expensive or not, they'll use it. It's not about status of the items for them.

My taste in items seem to be pricey but I don't make the prices XD

I try to make avatars that I personally enjoy looking at, get as much detail as I can in it and make it "complex" with my layering
the stem from the doll going over the stump made me very happy ^_^

MOST of my avatars end up being worth over 500k I don't know why that happens XD

I am only interested in the price of an item when I myself plan to get one XD

I like simples avatars with unique item combinations 3nodding

unfortunately I fail at achieving both .....
I have the bad habitof cluttering too much stuff onto my poor avi >.>;

When I see an avatar, I don't really notice the individual items with regard to their value, just the overall look. The value is irrelevant. I've seen really amazing and awesome avatars using cheap commons, and absolutes horrors with expensive stuff, so it doesn't matter. It's what you do with what you have that makes the difference between awesome and naff.

I'll see the expensive items and silently think, "good job" for them. But just because they have nice items doesn't mean the avvie is good.

I don't like avatars based on the expensiveness, I like them based on how good they look. So expensive or inexpensive, its the look of the avatar that's important.
It's not what they wear, it's how they wear it. ; )

User Image I don't really look at how much the avatar could cost, I look at how well it's been put together.

I'm personally drawn more to avys which have unique color combinations, or use lesser-known poses... I also love avys which use nice layering tricks and make me wonder, "How did they THINK of that?!"

As for the whole price issue, I don't care what an avy costs at all, as long as it looks nice. Unfortunately, most of the cooler-looking items tend to cost more, cuz more people want them and are willing to pay more for them. Classic supply and demand. That just means I gotta quest longer for the things that everyone wants, while learning to be more creative with the poses on the items I've already got! smile
