Welcome to Gaia! ::

Ruthless Shapeshifter

Donation Items, before they came to be known as Monthly Collectibles, used to be
the item which everyone held their breath for and saved all their gold/cash for.
It was the daily wait for the arrival of the 25th then the 15th of every month and
the grand opening of the much awaited items to be revealed.
It came with a beautiful portrait art telling both theme and story and usually
contained one masculine and one feminine inspired item.

However with the arrival of Evolving Items, Cash Shop items, RIGs, REIs and
now even Verge Monthly items. What's left of the humble MC?

Also it used to be held to a higher standard of "Will be released
for the month it was sold for...." however with the re-sale of the Angelic Halo
this sentence might not be so true anymore.

I used to hoard letters every month but nowadays with so many items
getting released and it seems RIGs have taken over the monthly excitement...
I have let slip the habit of getting every single MC.

Or should Gaia just phase out this antiquated method of releasing items
and well...roll-over for newer styles like the RIGs and Verge/CS Monthly items?

So GCD,
-- What's the significance of the MC to Gaia now?
-- Still excited for every month's MC?
-- Has the value of the MC now dropped so low?
-- Are MCs still seen as a good investment like before?
-- Do away with MCs and replace them with things like RIGs and Verge/CS Monthly Items?

Rare

At this point they're almost irrelevant, they're basically RIG or CS items that randomly get a special day and are never released again. The only thing keeping them is history.

I don't care what anyone says about them, I still
look forward to when they are unveiled because it's
another chance for more new items and it is exciting
to me. Because I love new items. XD

I'm weird with MCs.. I only ever think the ones that will
be worth any huge amount of gold will always be the old
ones. XD I look at more recent MCs and never could
imagine them being 22 mil+ like the OMG hat or anything
like that. I pretty much never invest in MCs. I buy them when
I like them. I don't seek to look profit off of them but I still
like them because, like I said, they're new items and have the
potential to be awesome.

As for the value of MCs.. I dunno. I'm sure after a while they
might slowly increase in price but for now I only ever see the
really old ones worth anything and worth me questing.

It kind of makes me wonder if Gaia will eventually phase them out
or if they're forced to keep them going due to said "history"?

MCs always get pretty artwork, yes? If anything, they are like those extra leniency items Gaia give out to the userbase (especially when you compare them to the higher priced items out there). You sometime get eyes, wigs, background, mods, etc, things other items are notoriously famous for but cost an arm and leg to get. gonk

They're kind of like left-over RIG items nowadays I think. XD
But yeah...you get the usually high tier reward body mods
in MCs now. Which is good I guess?

It's pretty much just become traditional. Otherwise there would be no place for them, so it's come to.

They're forced. Imagine the oldbie wank that would come from the discontinuation. "Gaia has CHANGED whatever happened to MY GAIA do you EVEN CARE lajsdslfa;"

Hahahaha XD just like whenever the do indeed change anything on Gaia.
But it just seems that Gaia's putting some real pressure on their
small staff (from the recent lay offs) having to release so very many items
every month. O__o

Which is a sad truth. You'd think that rig items back then would be seen as extras of MCs... Who would've thought it'll end up this way (today's general point of view). ;~;

It is very good, imo. Normally, you'll have to pay more than 250gc just for a "chance" at it, or not having to wait for the full evolution of REIs/EIs to come by (taking up to a month, or months, or even years). ... ...Now I think about it, an REI is like two MCs combined.

XD Yeah I think the MC is basically like a Mid-month item fix.
I mean seriously the schedule in a month is item hectic
as compared to before.

You have RIG, CS Update and now Verge Update, MCs, Maybe a Sponor's RIG, Special Events and then Gold shop/Crosstitch update, Advance Chance. XD
That's not taking into account the daily chance stuff, advert stuff and other things
Gaia likes to throw items at.

>>; No wonder we get item extinction in the MP...people just forget about
certain items in their inventory...so many of them now. XD

I honestly love the MCs- it's dependable and it's always fun to see what the new items are. Plus MC items are generally cheaper than evolving items, but generally of a similar quality. I hope they don't phase them out.

Who's to blame for that though? *cough* Everyone *cough* Gaia is usually great with pumping out items (thanks to their artists), now if they only have the developers who could do the same with site features... Oh, I'm getting off topic now, lol.

Lets see here...
CS: Direct buys. Availability is random, but seems to be longer than your typical MC.
Verge: High prices for high rollers like Denier Cri. Items seem more valued, in an artificial type of sense.
RIG: Chance aspect. Mostly for fun.
REI/EI: Mostly here to give people a reason to stay around for the suspense.
Event: Only sentimental on community type of level (team vs etc).
Sponsor: Reminder that there's still a world out there outside of Gaia.
Gold Shop: Under-appreciated essentials/basics.
Game: Badge for those who surpassed the tedious-ism of Games.
MCs: Happy Birthday to you~
