I use it for people who send me stupid e-mails. If they need to be reported, then I do both.

Everyone who is on my ignore list were trolls or harassers. Most of them were people in the past who wanted an item I was selling in the exchange so they PM me an offer that is very much a lowball and when I say no they begin to flam me and spam my in-box. So I report them for trolling then throw them on my Ignore. Though I've had a situation where I put a person on ignore so they got on a mule and started harassing me more.

Though if someone is trolling or spamming a thread (in the exchange where I normally gravitate to) it's a report-able offence.

I use the ignore feature on trolls, harassers, and those whose posts consistently piss me off so much that I don't want to see them. By that, I mean every single one of their posts drives me up the wall, not just one or two. I'm a defensive and heavily opinionated person on the internet, so if I see someone being wrong in their posts, I have this habitual need to point it out. So I end up putting them on ignore so I don't have to see their posts and bother with them.

I've been ignored for several odd reasons. One reason that really rustled my jimmies was this user who ignored me because i was discussing why art theft isn't always copyright infringement and something else. It's in my post history under a thread about stalking.

Rather ridiculous p***y tactics but whatever. It feels incredibly frusterating when you post, they respond, you read it and you're about to respond, and they block you. It bothers me because it feels like the stole my right to speak, and it's like...You responded to me and won't allow me to respond back? I'unno, rustles my jimmies.

Another user in this thread (whom was quoted) also blocked me, but I have no idea why. I think its because for the longest time i had a 500x500 sig with yellow/neon green/obnoxious colors. According to what they claimed they used the ignore feature for, nothing I've done meets their explanation.

They do need to update the ignore feature to block ignored users topics from showing up in the rapid thread thing. If someone wants to live in their world without me, fine. It's cool if you're going to block me, because you're doing me a favor. (Read as: if you block me, youre not worth seeing anyways, because im that cool, thanks for saving me the trouble)

I save blocking for people who get extremely obnoxious and insulting. And spammers.
Other than that, I've deal with enough harassment (see: stalking, exes, shared n***s, exreme conflict, ***** stalking me, 4chan's rare breed of dickweed, reddit's abuse of offensive words) over my internet career that I kinda just don't give a ********. It's the internet, and honestly knowing that there's an anonymous power play really just drives down the level of offended I get.

I feel like if you took the time to PM someone or reply/quote them in an appropriate tone and wording, you could find a boundary with them. A simple, "Hey, I don't mean to sound like I don't respect your opinion, but I don't really like if you post xxx about me, or xxx in my thread. Would you mind easing up a little? razz I do like your blahbalah though!" or something to a better extent, some babies wouldn't need to be trigger happy.

All of the people who've ignored me have never given me a notification of why or what I did. I came close to being ignored by J4CK for tipping him 4 times, and I heeded his warning. Cool! He spoke with me about why he didnt like tips, and why I should stop. I agreed, liked hearing why, and was like, cool dude. Whenever I ignore someone, I'll send them the final PM saying why I'm ignoring them, and it's nothing personal, just that behavior I didn't enjoy.

I don't believe in sheltering.

I'd tip you for your maturity, but I'll cross the line, so here's a metaphorical tip.

I believe the only people I've ever ignored were the accounts that tried to send me a scam email. I'm a very social and nice person and I don't just ignore people who disagree with me. Everyone is allowed to have their own opinion but if you PM with being a troll or scammer, you're going to get the cold shoulder.

Well, you see...
There might be people like you, that can simply ignore without using "the list" but there are some cases when "that member" simply becomes an attention whore (and that does include scammers and hackers). emotion_eyebrow and I do not need to explain what the last means, do I?

Now, the case of a member ignoring each one that do not agree with them, is simply a case of immature growing, but what you can do? Anyone who is being ignore by that simply reason, are not losing anything.

Not on Gaia, though I do have a stalker at this anime convention I go to. He's a nice enough person and he's not harmful or anything, but he's incredibly socially awkward. Like, I think he might have some sort of mental disability, not anything extreme... Just enough that he doesn't quite seem to know when he's being a bother or not. But I understand he''s just trying to be friends and that he doesn't know enough people other than me yet, so my goal is to introduce him to more of my friends, and hopefully help him make more bonds so he doesn't have to spend so much time with me. =w='''

But see, I wouldn't even put him on an ignore list if I could, because while he annoys me, I realize that he's not doing it on purpose. He's just a socially awkward dude, and the better way for me to deal with him is to find him more friends. Blocking him off completely would probably hurt his feelings, and... well, I've been there. I've been that person that people just... ignore. And it's not a nice feeling.

Maybe that's why the ignore feature rubs me the wrong way?

No, I mean the person who is being malicious. Maybe not enough to be against ToS, or maybe the mods sometimes take weeks to get to a ticket due to volume. I've had people who would seek me out in the forums just to be a d**k to me. They wouldn't leave me alone. Why should I constantly have to read shitty, misogynist nonsense? Ignore, ignore, ignore.

User ImageUser Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Since I became a FA I have not ignored anyone but my ignore list is huge thanks to the porn trolls!

We don't get as many as we use to but when a troll comes and keeps posting porn image over and over it's just so enjoyable to be online without having to see them over and over again.

Anyways, yes. Please, somebody, anybody, explain what the ignore system is good for other than blocking gore trolls from sight after you've reported a thread. D: I'm dying to understand it better.

have you ever been in an argument with someone
who is arguing a lost point
but they insist on sticking to their guns out of pure stubbornness and refusal to be wrong
and then not only do they have to have the last word, but they insist on continuing the argument until you tell them they are right
and then if you do this out of exasperation and maybe just a wee bit of sarcasm they post threads about it and quote you into them
and post in your topics trying to catch some spot where maybe they can go "Aha! That's not right!"

me either but
i would ignore list them
Aw man, I thought this thread was going to be point out my long standing confusion over the ignore system. I wish it was set up that if I ignore them, I can't see them and they can't see me. Instead in order for that to happen they have to ignore you also. I had one case where someone was stealing coding etc from me, and me adding them to my ignored list only made me not see them do it :I

But on topic,

I do use mine . I've had some crazy experiences even though I'm not the most confrontational person out there, but never really for just anything someone says that doesn't concern me, even if I don't agree with it. I just kind of move on. It's a very small ignore list.

That actually IS the way the ignore list works now. That's why I occasionally have a notice at the bottom of the GCD now saying that there are blocked topics on the page... I can't even see the topics made by people who have ignored me.

If that's so then I am extremely happy.
