Dang, it's not an offer available in the UK! That's a good amount of GC for registering with alternate Gaia xd
Oh no worries this wasn't gaia cash. xD It was for nexon.

Tentacl had an ad on Batoto. "You've never seen the little mermaid like this". And the image was a mermaid being tentacle-raped. Just the top of the image. Very classy. stare

I was kind of surprised since I recognized the source.

I already find it kinda bad that Gaia advertises tentacl on here.
I mean, ACTIVELY advertising a website that has 18+ content (as its main selling point) on a website made for kids over 13... that alone is pretty low.
Even worse because tentacl doesn't even have ANY way to check someone's age in the first place.

Wouldn't you think they do this because the vast majority of Gaians are now over 18 years old?
If anything, by that logic, you should appreciate the fact they're fishing to transfer that demographic from one site to another.
That way, those who are 13-18 wouldn't be chatting with random adult strangers on the internet without parental consent. emotion_yatta
While many grew up with Gaia, there are still TONS of newer / younger users here.
And Gaia obviously wanted to cater to those younger users when introducing animal avatars.

I doubt many people will actually "transfer" from Gaia to tentacl permanently.
So no, I don't really see it as a protection of Gaia's younger audience.
To be honest, I find it a bit insulting, that 13-year-olds would have to be kept away from older people... Gaia is strictly non-sexual in content, so why should a 13-year-old NOT talk about their favourite TV show or video game with someone who's 50...?

Actually, based on what research can be done to track the average user base of a site this big, the majority is 18-24 years old.
Also, the assumption that animal avatars were intended for younger users is an odd one. Why would that be Gaia's reasoning for implementing animal avatars? After all, the standard human Gaia avatar is a chibi itself, so chibi animals being a drawing point for younger users doesn't click to me. Most speculation involving the animal bases hinted it had to do with the furry community. Lol

As for keeping 13 year olds away from adults being insulting, haha. Alright. So when you were 13 and you went out to the movies with friends, were those friends allowed to be between the ages of 18 and 24? What happens when a 13 year old on site is sexually propositioned by someone that age? What about the 13 year old who's mother sees them chatting with a user twice their age about something they deem inappropriate, even if it's not against ToS?

Or, what if your child was role playing an older character who was romantically involved with another character, and the two were writing smut together? (That's a nice way of saying cybering, by the way)
Did you know that the older role player can be charged with distributing pornographic material to a minor, even if the minor said they were 18?

In a perfect world, you'd be right. Everyone would be able to hang out and be happy together without the threat of internet predators, or pending lawsuits, or explicit material floating around for children to see. It would be unfair.

Of course, that isn't how things work.

Just to get this straight because I cannot believe that this is ACTUALLY what you are saying:

Are you seriously saying that meeting up in real life with someone way older (I was saying ~50, not 18...) is the same as talking about your favourite video game on a forum...? Really..? Alright.
Although it has nothing to do with the original topic: yes, I was allowed to go to the movies with people 5 years older than me. Actually, my best friend when I was 15 was 21. We were allowed to sleep in the same bed, go to the movies, dinner, holidays, etc. Because not everyone is a creeper just by age.

I was only talking about GAIA'S FORUMS, though.
Smut / cybering is against Gaia's ToS, no matter whether both people are 13 or 30.
Gaia's ToS is the standard we have to assume is (mostly) fulfilled here. Even if it doesn't work 100%.

Sorry, but I honestly do not understand what your post even has to do with my first post.
I was saying (because maybe you misunderstood):
Gaia should not advertise 18+ content on their website because it is not appropriate for young teenagers (in my opinion).

I do NOT think that teenagers have to be "protected" from older people on a website that already tries to stay PG-13 in all areas. That is just ridiculous.
Then kids would have to be protected from YouTube, Facebook and Twitter as well.

Edit:

And also: If you look at the statistics you linked, why would you even BEGIN to think that permanent transfer of "older" users to tentacl is a good idea for Gaia?
The kids under 18 obviously make up less of Gaia than the people OVER 18.
And the people over 18 are the ones with credit cards / spare cash.

If Gaia had made tentacl to "protect" their younger users from the old creepers over 18, that would mean suicide. There wouldn't be many paying customers left on here and Gaia would just go bankrupt.

Are you implying that everyone on Gaia comes here to talk about their favorite video games on the forums? :3

You're well versed in the rule, not the exceptions, which is what planning is required for. You're missing the point entirely. Though, I will say it's strange you were allowed to sleep in the same bed as a 21 year old, as that is the prime example of the exception to the rule. Most parents wouldn't allow that, and I would have called child services, as that's what you're taught to do as a teacher when you hear something like this from a student.

You're right about the ToS. It is against the rules. But, if you take a gander at the Barton OOC, you'll understand by looking through people's search threads what the issue is. Even if they take their role playing offsite, it's still something Gaia can be blamed for, as it was the meeting place for the two individuals. 'Taking it to messenger' is a term to take notice of.

As for how my post is 'unrelated to yours', let me put it this way. Gaia has advertised plenty of sites intended for adults that are used by younger users. Also, the reason Gaia is 13+ doesn't immediately imply it can't advertise things that are 18+. I've yet to see any of the explicit tentacl advertisements people have mentioned, and having made a few calls around, they don't sound accurate. Of course no one can link these images, as they would be against the ToS if they were real, so here we are - Speculating.

Using the argument that Gaia is 13+ so it can't advertise freely is like saying you have no clear reasoning of the COPPA act. That's why Gaia is 13+, by and by. Information tracking is for users 13+. Gaia's personal ToS is the reason you can't post explicit material or adult content ON SITE, which could be changed at any given time if they wanted to do so. (Did you read the ToS, or are you just mentioning it because you think it helps your argument?)

Let me just say, and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, you sound like a teenager. It would make sense based on how adamantly you're advocating for teenage rights. Now, that's why I'll give you some leeway here, and try and spell this out as effectively as possible.

Teens do need protection on (or from) sites like Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter, as well. That wasn't the argument though, so we'll get back to that.

Gaia won't sink because of tentacl. Gaia will sell because that's the plan.

Now, I'm happy to have heard your opinions, but I'd much prefer a few facts to your side of the debate.

Of course not. It's called "using an example",
"Inappropriate" content (violent / sexual / illegal content) is not allowed on here.
If you see it around, it's either because no mod caught it yet or because someone is actively trying to troll.
And that happens even on forums ONLY aimed for kids. You always have black sheep that break the rules.

I do not find that strange at all, actually.
But hey, I am from a country where you're allowed to have sex at 14, get drunk at 16 and marry your first cousin. Cultural differences maybe.

We Could Be Villains

Which also happens on sites only aimed at teenagers. I have been part of pages like that when I was younger. Gaia is a very tame place.

We Could Be Villains
As for how my post is 'unrelated to yours', let me put it this way. Gaia has advertised plenty of sites intended for adults that are used by younger users.

Could you please name an example of a page advertised on here BY Gaia (not accidental slips in Google placed advertisements) that actually contained pornographic material as main selling point? I am not aware this has happened in the past and I would like to know which sites those were.

We Could Be Villains
Also, the reason Gaia is 13+ doesn't immediately imply it can't advertise things that are 18+. I get the tentacl ads on my forum home page every two or three refreshes.
Of course they are NOT the ones with the mermaid (I have yet to see that one).
They are simply tentacl ads. I can take a screencap for you if you want but I just went to buy something on Amazon so it will take a bit before there will be something besides Amazon gift voucher ads coming up again, I guess.

We Could Be Villains

Gaia actually stated that they are NOT a "PG-13 website" but rather "try to keep content PG-13". I don't think I actually called Gaia a "PG-13 website", since they are not. If I used that term, my apologies.

And since I have been on this site snce 2004, I had to actually AGREE to the ToS when I joined.
I am not sure how signing up works today, but I doubt it would be any different.
So I'd say most users (me included, obviously) are aware of the ToS just fine.

Of course Gaia an change their own ToS at any given time, ban all users under 18 and open up a "Porn" subforum.
Of course they ARE ALLOWED to advertise their own baby website on here.
That does not mean I have to agree with that business strategy or find it tasteful.

Sorry to burst your bubble but I left my teenage years behind about 6 years ago.
Of course you can try and sound nicely condescending by "spelling this out" for me. Thank you so much, I really appreciate your effort immensely.

We Could Be Villains
Teens do need protection on (or from) sites like Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter, as well. That wasn't the argument though, so we'll get back to that.
You completely missed the point.
We were talking about "protecting" teenagers by "transfering" the older people to another website.
So where exactly are Twitter, Facebook and YouTube opening up special 18+ versions of their websites to get rid all those crazy old creepers who are only out to hunt innocent teenagers?
EXACTLY. They do not exist.

Because the protection has to happen ON SITE.
By moderators. Bans. Help Hotlines / customer service.
But not by opening up an "Adult Facebook" and "Adult Youtube" and "Adult Twitter" to lure in everyone over 18 with PORN.

If you seriously think that tentacl will help protect teenagers on Gaia by transfering that dangerous audience (which is already breaking the site's ToS and WILL get banned for simply offering 18+ RPs) to a "grown up" version of the same site, advertised on Gaia with NO restrictions / age checks when joining, then God help you.
That sounds VERY naive to me.

We Could Be Villains
Gaia won't sink because of tentacl. Gaia will sell because that's the plan.

emotion_facepalm I said: If everyone over 18 migrated to tentacl, there wouldn't be any cash cows left on here.
You made it sound as if it would be GREAT if all the people with money left Gaia.
It would not be great. Because tentacl is not centered around avatars the same way Gaia is. It will take Gaia YEARS to build a userbase of similar size to this one.
It would only be great if Gaia Interactive closed down Gaia and only concentrated on tentacl to produce income and costs.

We Could Be Villains
Now, I'm happy to have heard your opinions, but I'd much prefer a few facts to your side of the debate.

Okay, I will spell out the facts for you again, just to make it a bit easier for you to understand and avoid any further misunderstandings:

- Gaia offers ON SITE protection of teenagers
- Gaia advertises 18+ content (explicit pornographic material) on their main website
- Tentacl does not offer any age checks when joining (unless they updated the process since I joined)
- Linking to explicit pornographic material on the homepage is not PG-13 friendly
- There are people over 18 on Gaia who are NOT sexual predators and can use Gaia all they want without being chased off the site by over-protective crazies who think everyone over 18 is an abusive, sex-obsessed, violent psycopath

And most importantly, a fact you may not be aware of yet:
Teenagers can have normal, informative, educative, interesting conversations with adults (yes, even with MEN over THIRTY)

And now that we have both presented our sides of the argument, I will agree to completely disagree with you and leave it at that.
Please take your condescending manners to someone else. Thank you very much.

I travel through the internet with adblock on at all times. (Unless I'm going a free cash offer.) So I haven't seen anything Gaia related outside of a printed ad years ago when Suncoast was a thing. Otherwise the only other "advertising" I've seen is sometimes I'll get a thing in the bag they give you at conventions.

And as far as Tentacl is concerned, I've seen it being one of those banner ads on here a lot lately. It's kinda weird that they would be advertising the 18+ site on a site that it's general target audience is supposed to be like 13-16. Idk it just feels weird to see an ad for Tentacl on here.

But it's whatever to me, I feel like tentacl shouldn't really exist to begin with, and that's even after joining to see what the hubbub was about.

I know this isn't exactly gaia related, but I've been seeing so much about tentacl being talked about here, and other places like SF. There was one threat talking about how ads for tentacl where showing up here.

You know those free gaia cash offers? I was doing those for something else not gaia related. And tentacl popped up as one of the sponsors. I just thought it was a funny find. I rarely see websites advertized on those cash offers.

I also did the offer, and did not get paid. xD

Makes you wonder how well the site is actually doing, they seem to be getting the word about the site out there in anyway they can.

Have you seen it pop up anywhere else you never thought you would see it?

Has this ever happened to you but with gaia instead?

Hello Jin Love!

Thanks for the thread - Tentacl is swimming along, thanks for asking! As for the offers ads, we have lots of Tentacl ads all over - such offers are a great way for people to try Tentacl and earn some free virtual currency at some of their favorite sites. We're glad you happened upon the ad and completed the offer!

As for your offer not completing properly, we're sorry to hear you had this experience. Obviously, we cannot grant you the missing NX you should have received for completing the offer, but not to worry! There is a help center article in the Nexon FAQs that suggests you contact the offer provider and file a report. They should be able to help you get this resolved. Here is the URL to Nexon's support article if you are interested - hope this helps!: http://support.nexon.net/ics/support/KBAnswer.asp?questionID=254&hitOffset=142+117+112+90+44+32+30+5&docID=654

this is how I feel. I was really shocked when i noticed an ad for tentacl. I was like wow, okay, so lets go back and say I hadnt heard of tentacl (or just didn't know about the NSFW side of it) and say I was 13-16 ish. I sign up...and poof and utterly crushed and shocked by what I find because WTF THIS ISNT LIKE GAIA (by "like gaia" I mean being "13+" and by "13+" I mean when you signed up for gaia you had to check a box stating you were at least 13)
