How do you even get banned?
I mean i've been here since 06
I've never been banned.
Never had a warning.

So if you do something to deserve a perma ban, there is a good chance it;s for a good reason =/

Unless there's a need to do it I don't think tinkering with the rules will be generally good for Gaia's image. When you set down rules, you need to be firm otherwise rulebreakers will not learn anything. Ajdustments maybe but I'm not for abolishing rules/penalties.

This, so very much this.
Adjusting rules is fine when it's deemed necessary. (Like the recent changes to the GCD's rules to allow for Admin/staff discussion threads) However, outright removal of rules and penalties just seems so...counterproductive.
gonk

Just skimmed through this topic again now that I'm home from class, and I've sure been seeing the term "White Knighting" thrown around quite a bit. Deary me, it has gotten intense. sweatdrop I don't even see a whole lot of mindless defence of the Mods going on here. Nobody has tried to say the mods are flawless. What people have said is that yes, things have been handled badly in the past, but things have been going better lately, particularly with the ban appeal possibility.
Anyways...

Really OP, if you feel strongly about this and want it considered you could try making an SF thread, though I don't imagine it will be much better received there than here.

EDIT: ...Making a thread about how much you hate "White knighting" in the GD. That's smooth. neutral

To be fair I couldnt give a damn about that avatar, 3 million gold is worth nothing in the current state the gaian economy is.

Whatever happened to me, valid or not doest matter anymore, as long as it doesnt happen to anyone else.

Don't worry, I shall allay your fears cool
If what happened then happened today, rest assured that there are ways for users to contest those bans. I've seen plenty of people brought back from the brink of permabans, sometimes even people who might not have even deserved it but Gaia was being lenient...but whatever. I think the system Gaia's got going today is pretty good. It could always be better (especially with wait time) but it's good enough. I would give Gaia a B+/A- when it comes to handling bans and contesting bans.IDK what banning procedures look like on other websites but I think most other websites don't even allow you to contest a ban. Like Neopets LOL

I'm glad you brought this up, Though I'm not sure what your intentions are, I feel its an important subject that many are afraid to talk about. Truth is,
most people have a lot of sentiment invested in their accounts and it shouldn't ever be taken lightly imo. I've almost never seen anyone do something worthy of a ban. Call me sheltered but if I did it would be very hard to do. neutral

Wait, 6,000 people online? I see 22,000 right now, and it usually doesn't dip too low until later at night/early morning US time. It's not like they're ban happy here. If anything, they've gotten much better about reasonably banning. If they don't enforce the rules they put in place by occasionally perma-banning people, then people will take advantage of it.

Buggy Mage

I've Personally never been warned or banned.
But I've heard enough things about past situations to not assume infallible action, past or present.
In my opinion it should only happen in serious instances. After long Considerations which factor in context heavily. The way people joke about the stuff they do now a days things are not as cut and dry. Again, I am sympathetic to other's misfortune, as ever. sweatdrop

I think the ban system is more than reasonable. (And my old main got banned with approx. 25m worth, so....I know what it's like to lose an account)

I was doing something stupid, got banned, moved on. Not a big deal.
Now, what I do wish would change is the ability to use an email address from an old account. (This account has an email address that got banned from inactivity, lol)

Actually mods can change that for you. I had a storage mule account that i had forgotten the password to and could not change it because the email website was now non-existent.
So i filed a ticket with them and they changed the email and reset the password for me.
i just had to know enough about the details of the account that i could prove that it was mine. So surely they could change it for you.
took like a few weeks with the back and forth but no big deal.

I meant "banned" and not "old" xP
They apparently aren't allowed to / supposed to change things on banned accounts, which makes sense, but sucks. xP

EDIT: Just read the whole thread. OP: You remind me of Bill O'Reilly. People are giving you legitimate arguments and opinions, but any time someone is actually seeming more intelligent in the argument, you seem to ignore anything in their argument, and continue using your own arguments, which aren't really well supported, or you ignore them so that they can't post in this thread or threaten to report them (which is a reportable offense, anyways) You're basically saying "Anyone who disagrees with my opinion is wrong" but you're also arguing that you're just giving an opinion. I very rarely see people who can so blatantly disregard every other person's opinions, and actually win an argument. This thread is an example of that.

But anyways, I'm going to stop feeding the trolls, and leave now.

Bans are never taken lightly. They are only applied after repeated warnings, or in rare cases after an extreme violation like posting porn, hacking, or similar circumstances.

And I'm happy that you haven't seen any major violations, but I've seen plenty. People often come and complain about being banned in the SF and Q and A forum, but I haven't seen one yet who's told the full story. When the truth comes out it's always been more than justified.

For the future always avoid making jokes about any of these topics. And never say you're under 13, even jokingly or as part of a meme. Gaia BY LAW has to ban people who say they are underage until they turn 13.

yes I'm sure coming into the thread with an opening, "you're a troll" is a legitimate opening for discussion and sure is this half baked closing of yours.
