It's weird, today i learned someone ignored me and i really liked this person. i kinda want to know why i'm ignored. i know i come off harsher than i mean to be, i never type things properly.

I kinda liked the old ignore system.
It took me much logner to find out I was ignored. Now I know within minutes. (Which kinda helps you pinpoint why you get ignored)

Shame you got DELETED from this person's gaia-life though. D:
Maybe you were too good for them B)

i actually don't know when i was ignored, i just know that she was the last post in a thread earlier and i couldn't see her post, so i got a mule and could see her post. i won't bug her but still it's kinda like WHY?

I think it's mostly about interpretation. what someone sees as thick/thin skinned, someone might perceive as something else. what someone perceives as trolling/not trolling someone might see as the opposite.

that's because people have difference tolerance levels for different factors. i don't think things really change that much over time. how we interact with each other mostly relies on what restrictions we have. it really won't change unless gaia changes something in the system that taps into what they consider is and isn't appropriate behavior.

Omnipresent Loiterer

See, this is where I want to know the other story. That's always how it is for assholes who expect everyone to deal with their s**t: "Everyone is too sensitive!"
Never now and never before this have I been warned for "meanness" and I ain't the meekest of the bunch. I have absolutely NOTHING against stricter rules against ill word.
After all, if you're going to insult someone, you should be able to conceal it well enough within a legitimate argument where it flies.

I don't think your issue went how you think it did. I think a stupid mistake was made, someone said something with no intellectual basis and are hiding it beneath "they're censoring my ideas!"
If your ideas all have to do with being a dickhole, then no one wants to hear them. Thusly, as a civil society we shun them in civil discussion.
The rest is hyperbole.

I used to feel like you, basically because I feel that one of humanities biggest issues in life is that we all care way too much what other people think of us. We're afraid of being judged. We're afraid of being picked on.

Once you take away the power of a bully, you're free (unless they're physically harming you, than s**t got serious and needs to be addresses immediately). Surprisingly enough, bullies tend to get really frustrated when they see that what they're doing isn't affecting you. But it doesn't matter about how you made them feel (aside from maybe revenge and pride for yourself), but how YOU feel. In your life, you matter and when people say "Welcome to the real world" to children in school becoming adults, it's basically that, no one cares about you out there. No one is gonna hold your hand or be nice to you.

The same is true of the internet, however people suddenly felt that because of anonymity and no real laws on the internet like there are in real life, that people could run a muck and do whatever the hell they felt like because there was never any consequences. Funny how societies true nature comes out when there are no rules, huh? Most people don't have morality. Laws are what keep the majority in check, not because people actually care about doing what is right, the internet is great proof of that. If it wasn't laws keeping people in check, it was religion (ya know, the "I wont do this s**t cause I'll go to hell thing" again, not because they actually wanted to do what was right, but because they just didn't want to be punished).

The point I'm trying to make is, while people do need to try and learn to have thicker skin just for the sake of protecting themselves from people who "don't ******** matter", that doesn't mean that all common courtesy should be thrown out the window just because this is the internet. We're ******** people, not animals and we should be more respectful and polite to each other out of just wanting to be a better person, a better society, and not because rules and laws stop us from being that way.

So, bullies can't hurt people without consequences as easily now?

I fail to see how this is a bad thing.

Having a different opinion from someone isn't bullying? I think you missed what I may have been saying. People get easily offended, and report or over-react because lately it feels like anything that doesn't agree with your train of thoughts is trolling.

Ive ran into it in several games.

A: I love dogs!
B: Uhh, Iunno. I dont like dogs. Think cats are better, yknow?
A: OMG. D:< DOGS R BEST U NOOB. REPORT.

I see. I haven't encountered this myself (fortunately). Reporting someone for respectfully disagreeing with you is certainly inappropriate.

However, from what I've observed, people who state their opinion in an especially rude, abusive or offensive manner like to present themselves as the victims of censorship when they're called on it. Something like this:

A: I love dogs!
B: Dogs suck, you ******** noob! Your mother should've aborted you when she had the chance!
A: REPORT!
B: It's not trolling! It's just my opiiiiinionn crying

But yeah, in the scenario you present, that's abusing the report system.

Exactly. The whole "No one wants to take responsibility for their actions" bullshit, so they accuse others of being too sensitive and to get over it. This is the internet!

Everyone thinks they're entitled to act however they want to because they feel the internet is a free place to do as they please.

so yeah, just don't think about it. just believe that you're better off ignoring each other.

The internet is a free place to do as you please, but in turn, everyone else using it is free to react as they please. (This includes the reactions from moderators wink )

I can understand where "******** YOU INSULT HERE" would be seen as abusive, but I've also seen other reasons for the soft-skinned. It almost took abusiveness to give them a wake-up call. (Read as: Someone hurt my feelings because they didnt log in today, and several other repeat occurrences)

Part of the problem with the internet is you can't always judge the tone of people responding. I tend to read certain statements towards me in a belittling, mocking tone because of my... life experiences. That's not to say I assume people are trolling when they make statements I don't like, but I do question the intent of someone when I post a drawing and they say "am i kawaii uguu?"

Yeah that kind of comment sounds passive aggressive; I can see why someone on the internet would be sick of anime stuff (with the weeaboo's general "image" wink

Sucks theres no verbal or visual ques to what people are saying. sad

Actually it wasn't supposed to be anime-like at all, though one person said it looked kinda animu-ish. I think QUALITY would have been a more appropriate term, honestly.

I've had that happen before in real life, except it was about a pink DS Lite and not dogs. emotion_donotwant

Generally in situations like that, I say the person with the strongest reaction is the person with the problem. "Situations like that" meaning not playing mind games or having a clear intent to agitate when the person being offensive knows better.

Depends on where you go. Many websites have rules that need to be followed and give users the power to block/ignore someone, or a moderator to block/ban them from their website to show them that "Hey, no, you can't do whatever the ******** you want here."

I'm not talking about the over sensitive individuals. The internet brings all kinds of people together, including emotionally and/or mentally unstable people who will accuse you of being a bully and picking on them (or making up the excuse they have a mental disorder), just because your opinion differs from theirs or you tell them off for being rude or acting poorly.

i actually ignored someone for kicking me from a zomg crew b/c i was lagging, i like know people can't crew me in zomg who will kick me if i lag. i never know when i'd lag too much. and i might be on the ignore list of users that dms a lot in zomg (kinda had a bit of conflict in that forum) but i've quit going to that area. But i just don't know why someone in the gcd would ignore me and it's kinda bugging me, but maybe it was just one stupid reason.

^^ This this this

Ive come close to ignoring half of the GCD for ugly sigs/avatars or just annoying post formatting.

:I I need to get adblock.

Magic Hobo

Honestly I see that kind of thing more on tumblr than anywhere else, which is funny because you can basically get away with anything short of child porn on that website, making it sort of a bizarro 4chan. The *amount* of screaming that happens if you tell a joke or disagree with someone on that website.

It's unfortunate if that's spread to Gaia, which actually *does* have a working system of consequences, sort-of. There is nothing on this planet that I hate more than censorship. I do not believe that I should have to temper my language in order to avoid hurting the feelings of a total stranger on the internet. I barely temper my language to avoid hurting the feelings of people I actually know and like IRL, and somehow people online think this is, like, a right? ******** you, go away. I hope people who are that buttsensitive ignore me.
