I'll never get the chance again....

Reminds me of Pinocchio.
Starlight Mayberuu
Reminds me of Pinocchio.

Yeah, I was thinking on that when I sw the pictures together. Dark and weird, a pepper version of the story.
Oh that art is gorgeous. heart It makes me want one badly.

I agree with the toymaker assessment. For some reason it reminds me of Pinocchio: the toymaker pours everything into toymaking to fill a hole in his heart, and one day he's rewarded with his greatest wish. So maybe the Reve Rouille is similar. The toymaker puts every ounce of herself into the toys, but there's no magic to bring her greatest dream to her, which is why they're "rusted dreams," as it were.

Well, that's depressing. G'job, Faye.
Augh! I clicked on this thinking "YES!! She's finally going to reveal the story!". Curse you! This reveals nothing, other than what your frequent journal stalkers already know. crying But I suppose revealing it all would take the fun out of it.

Well, the facts:
1- She knows how to dive. For materials I assume.
2- She can build toys. She seems to be placing mysterious hearts in them.
3- Reve Rouille itself means rusted dream. The Reve Rouille's original toy had the face of a Daruma doll, with only one eye filled in. Meaning someone made a wish... the wish has yet to come true.
4- The description states the toy was washed upon a beach; and that a tragedy occurred.
5- You said that there was most likely going to be another person in the Reve's story.

Soo... putting all those together...

Mademoiselle perhaps lives a lonely life of poverty. For fun, "company", and a bit of income, she dives for materials to use to make toys. However, she hasn't found much success with her creations. Perhaps with her increasing isolation and poverty, she builds a Daruma Doll (The Reve), and proceeds to make a wish for companionship and success. Her toys, that she cared for so much - to the extent of giving them hearts even, then proceed to come alive. The mademoiselle is excited at her good fortune. She begins selling the toys, and is known as the best toymaker in the land, and for a brief time enjoys a period of wealth and fame. Her fame and success attracts many people, including a dashing gentlemen who she's taken by. The two fall in love, and marry. All is not well though, for the husband becomes possesive and jealous of the love she has for the toys that she creates. Unwilling to give up the love for her creations, an awful fight ensues. The husband destroys most of her toys, and in a jealous rage, kills Mademoiselle too. Unable to live with himself, the man commits suicide. All that is left is the Reve Rouille, who now has his second eye drawn in, showing the completion of the wish. The Mademoiselle indeed received what she wanted: fame, fortune, and companionship. However, it came at a cost. The theme is the age old saying "be careful for what you wish for".

That is what I think, anyway. But lord knows I've been wrong before! My theory about this item changes upon each evolution. rofl
Shark Motif?

My theory:
Young widowed wife (Mademoiselle) goes in search of her husband, who was a sailor.
She searches the deep for him, eventually finds his body.
His body is beaten and battered, but SHE HAS THE TECHNOLOGY!
Clockwork reanimation happens, she has a Dr. Frankenstein reaction.
The End.
How'd I do?
It'll take a few more evolutions for me to get a better idea, but I'll make a guess from what I've seen so far: Mademoiselle puts all her time and love into her toys. She dreams of bringing her creations to life, and starts a new one in hope of achieving that(the Reve crab). After a long time of being unsuccessful, she realizes her dream can't come true and leaves the second eye of Reve unpainted.

That's all I've got at the moment. >>

. . . I intended Reve Rouille to actually be a story-telling EI. . .

Pepper Tea that is why I love you.
In my own interpretation, she collects rusted things such as what she found in the bottom of the ocean. After collecting, she's piecing it back together to unveil the truth of what happened to her ancestors in the past. I think Reve's past is that of a Pagoda Tragedy. What I meant was people held an oriental festival in the middle of the sea, but tragedy struck them, leaving the remains such as the kite, the shark motif, the doll, etc in the ocean's floor.

After viewing the images together I can see how it can be told as a story. The shark in the faded background must obviously be the villain of the story, they tend to loom over the protagonist at the beginning. Since "little miss blow-torch" is making a toy shark with the other toy in her room, it can be assumed she is infact a toy maker.

Since it was said the toy tells of some sort of tragedy, I am now thinking that she must have been eaten by the shark or betrayed by someone when delivering the cute little rusty crab.

- Reve Rouille is french means "Dream Rust".
I look forward to seeing this over the next few weeks. surprised Might have to snag one on the auction house.

I don't want to speak for Pepper-tea, however my guess would be that out of respect for the artwork by other EI artists it wouldn't be fair to include Reve art in every EI report or feel complete to only include it in some. Hence, the conclusion was to have it available through her journal. The art is extraordinary in my opinion. It inspired me to write this "interesting" (for lack of a more critical word) version of the Reve's tale:

The mademoiselle has always been a toy because everyone in the world is a toy. The toys never die normally so there is a rule that no new toys can be built so the world doesn’t become overpopulated. For a long time the Mademoiselle debates how the toys around the world came into existence. Everyone else seemed content focusing on things they could find the answers to more easily but the Mademoiselle wouldn’t just blindly follow what others believe to be best. She is determined to uncover how they were all built in the first place and the best way she can think to do that is to make toys herself. In order not to be discovered breaking the law she comes up with the ingenious plan of going underground…but not just underground, undersea! Not only is that where she scavenges for building materials but she makes sure she has enough fuel with her to work for hours building her creations in a hidden workshop she built within a cavern. She brings them back to the surface once they are complete and makes sure they each have an authentic looking identification heart in case any suspicion arises from the arrivals that are newer to these parts then the authorities would discover. One evening she was working on a toy longer then usual and she drifted asleep. She had a dream about a toy and when she awoke she just knew she had to build it. It did not matter that every toy component to build this dream toy was within her own body, nor that she was running low on fuel, she just had the strongest feeling it would lead her to the answers she desired so desperately. As she welded the last claw she began to feel weak and had to force herself to screw it on and make the toy complete. The Reve’s eyes opened slowly and it spoke “Child, why have you brought me back?” The Mademoiselle looked puzzled and began asking questions. The Reve explained that it was the creator of all the toys that inhabited the planet and that she was the Reve’s last creation. That he had to merge himself into her in order to make her complete and that she must take him apart and make her whole again. She opened her mouth weakly to argue but at that moment crashing sounds of rocks shook the cave. When the dust cleared there was only a small beam of light piercing through an opening in the cave in. The Mademoiselle squeezed the toy crab through the hole and told him the world needed the Reve more then herself. That living eternally made them bored and she was the only one she knew who still questioned things…that the Reve could emerge on dry land and inspire a golden age of thought and progress. The Reve explained that he created her for this purpose and that all eh needed to be complete was ensure her survival. “You are wrong” uttered the Mademoiselle “I can’t do what you ask. They won’t believe me, they need you” and she tossed her own identification heart at him. She felt this was best and was content at first during her last blinks but then a single large bolder crashed down upon the Reve and pinned it to the Ocean floor. “What hope is there left?” she thought as she took her last glance at the shadow of the great rock, unaware of the Reve’s rusty remains floating to the surface…one day.
I'm thinking she's a diver hunting down precious items (like a treasure hunter), and fixes what she can't sell or turn over to museums/stores. The shark, doll, etc..were all broken (no longer valuable), and so she's been fixing them, putting her heart into bringing some "life" back into old antiques that were taken from the shoreline.

She has no obvious friends, but enjoys her work. Her wish is companionship (husband/sister/best friend) and the Daruma is a representation (her first broken find/lonely just like her). She's only completed one eye, because she's the only one so far. When she obtains a true friend (possibly in her field of work), she'll be able to paint in the other and see just how many broken and rusted toys had to be found before she had someone to rely on. Following that, she brings Daruma back to the beach, to help other lonely souls and skips off with her friend. A happy ending to a seemingly depressing tale. heart

I like her artwork. I just wish I didn't need to look in her journal for it. Maybe they can become wallpapers smile

Haha, you beat me to it! Cresento is all reapersun's and reapersun would murder me if I even look in Cresento's direction XD (I think she has plans for him anyway)

Ak! I confused my artists! Sorry pepper-tea! redface
She lives on the island of misfit toys obviously. And the toys that fall into the water she saves. User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
