Good day GCD!

So, I had this on my mind for awhile, but can reporting still prove to be useful on Gaia?Don't get me wrong, It's good to report users or anything that might cause harm to the forum or other users. However, I notice most users who get banned for ether trying to trolling or harassment still come back with an Alt account and don't care if they get banned again. It's like you help get rid of a problem only for it to come back later. Most of the users that do this is ether to be "famous" for what they do purely attention or they just have nothing better to do and prove something.

Do you still report even if the problem might come back?

How often do you report or have you stop doing it?

Do you think Gaia should improve the report system or how they ban users?

Stellar Succubus

Always report. Always.

I don't do it as often as I should, really. Sometimes I'm not 100% sure if I'm right, so I'll avoid it.

In some instances, yeah, it doesn't fix the problem... but that's the internet. I don't think there are issues with the reporting system.

There's just issues with how many people can be good moderators, thus we've got a bit of a mod deficit. I understand though. It takes a lot to be a mod. It's not a job I could do.

I noticed in a few forums where a person did keep coming back they eventually gave up. Either that or they did something really bad and got a blanket ban.

I think it helps, I used to be harassed by someone and they eventually gave up. Most people really do after having to go through account after account. I think reports and how they are handled are pretty well here especially compared to a lot of places. I don't see how much they could handle it differently, like IP bans since it would affect a lot of innocent people.

True,Internet will be the Internet. xd

Mod job doesn't look very easy at all ether, especially when they get told to "do their jobs". They're just aren't that many of them to keep up.

Fluffy Treat

it must do some good to report, else the mods wouldn't send thank-yous....

Buggy Mage

I don't know much about reporting honestly. I haven't even gone to the page yet. XD
I'm grateful that my personal experience has never been lessened by some of the bad material that can surface from time to time. I'm thankful to those that try to keep our forums organized. cat_3nodding

If you want to bring attention to some sort of rule or TOS violation, of course reporting is going to be helpful in accomplishing that. As with any tool its usefulness is going to rely on how it's used (in both input and output) but Gaia pre-report system was pretty inefficient. Before the report system I found it could be really frustrating to find someone to PM that actually responded and was willing to help. And as a moderator who worked both pre and post report system there was just no comparison. Being mobbed with PMs or having an organized system. Not a hard decision there. xd

I don't care if people do/don't report but the people who think they're making a difference by using like/dislike instead of actually helping by reporting are pretty hilarious. razz Just report.

Mysterious Trickster

I always report. Always.

No matter what, if I feel something that's currently going on isn't right, I'll report the content. There have been a few times when Mods spoke to me about why the content I reported isn't breaking any rules, but they can see why I did it. It's always a good idea to just send a report. The worse that can happen is, the content reported doesn't violate the TOS and stays.

I wish I could work as a Mod here, but I just don't have the time dedicated to doing it. Instead, I report.

I do see people often down vote threads instead of reporting them.Of course I want to bring attention to the TOS,especially if it's in a place I like to talk in, even if they might come back it's something we need to live with until it ends eventually.

Some people are just really slow to learn or feel that they have nothing better to do than be an a** online where they feel safely anonymous, that doesn't mean you shouldn't report them when they do something wrong. If they never get slapped down/corrected/have their rear handed back to them on a platter then not only will they never learn, but a lot of people who are tempted to act likewise will see the lack of correction and follow suit.

It's helpful if you think it's helpful. I don't bother reporting misplaced threads anymore though because i can just ignore that stuff.

people who come back from bans repeatedly actually are bothered when you report them. they might "lol" at it but they do get annoyed when they see a 'ban' message. not mad - because they expect it, but they do get annoyed. especially now that newer accounts have time restrictions (e.g. no TP until 3 days, can't enter rally/vh until 3 days, no access to Heaven forum until X months, etc.).

Sparkly Explorer

I always report if I see somebody doing something wrong. Sometimes it doesn't always work (I know of a person who posted porn in zOMG, and I reported them; but they're still around and still occasionally will link to the same website sweatdrop ) but for the most part, I think the report system is great. I always enjoy getting a thanks from a mod for reporting!

I joined Gaia when I was a teenager and now I'm in my 20s, and I always felt Gaia was pretty "safe" as far as websites go. I want younger Gaians to experience the same thing I did. smile

Perfect Saint

I don't like reporting.
However, I get some report-happy friends to do the reporting for me. They like collecting reports.

Lonely Lover

I always report offenses, but, sometimes, I feel as though it's a futile effort.

Trolls do just come back on different accounts, like you mentioned.

But what really pisses me off is that some people get away with it. For instance, there are a few accounts which always make multiple, really vulgar and explicit posts and threads, which are all reported, but the mods don't do anything. neutral Even after months of reporting those posts and threads, that account still exists and keeps repeating those offenses.

And even if multiple people have reported someone for a violation or for harassment, oftentimes that person does not get banned. What I have heard is that some people are friends with mods, and that they get away with doing whatever they want, because they have immunity... Of course, that is just hearsay.

Some mods fuss over trivial matters and don't worry about significant ones. Some go around checking very harmless signature images to see if they're over the size limit, instead of dealing with scam reports; others try to punish you, even if you have had a good record of reporting violations, for jokingly posting in an obviously reportable "10k giveaway if you click my dragon eggs" sort of thing...

Scam reports often take a long time to be reviewed; if they are, sometimes all you get is "Due to the circumstance that there was not any critical loss, your case has been resolved," and you get nothing. Hack reports are often left unanswered.

And they do all of these things, when there are so many other people who have made their entire Gaian fortunes by offsite trading (I've come across some people who claim that they have done this and have never been caught) or by systematic hacking...
