I can see why some people would list them that high as they're just listing the item as proof that they have the item that they're selling and like has been mentioned they don't want it to sell in the MP so the vendor lists it at the MP Cap,

But there are some people that would think that they could actually obtain that amount of gold through selling a item that high and some do it as a joke! rolleyes

This happened ages and ages ago.. People have always (and will always) make ludicrous listings. .. . 99% of the time it's for the very reason Rain said: It's a listing so people can PM offers.
I suppose some people are showing off? That seems silly but it's possible.

Hope the value of items haven't actually reached trillions yet.

Many of the luxury items that are listed are still in the billions. What I fear most is that many of our quest items will end up like the listings I've shown (in the trillions and up). And then they wouldn't be something I'd laugh at, really.
