User ImageWhat's your take?

My take is that you're making a mountain out of a molehill cat_rolleyes

Can this be called begging?

IMHO, no, not really cat_xp
Begging involves directly asking, whereas bumping a thread and mentioning a quest is an entirely different thing cat_stare
Seriously, be grateful you got a free bump cat_3nodding

Begging must work to some degree, or people wouldn't keep doing it!

I did notice this, and I guess... it doesn't really bother me, as mildly distasteful as it is.

It's just an avatar site. No need for me to get all offended over something as simple as someone asking for pixel doll clothes ;D
I wouldn't tip someone who asked for a tip simply because, dude, it's 25 gold. Come on, you probably made more than that just posting to ask for a tip
It is begging if the user is asking for any sort of donation. The only place users should be soliciting other users for gold or items is the Charity/Quests Forum or the Chatterbox.

Even if the posts are used in combination with normal, on-topic posts, it is still considered spamming.

Watch this video, OP.
It'll teach you everything you need to know about the exchange, exchangers in general, and their crazy, crazy ways.

Btw, I think those WERE the droids they were looking for...
Obviously I need to duck into the Exchange more often to keep up with its weird trends.

But eh, they're bumps and they're wishing you luck, so the posters aren't all that bad. Just uh... lacking in finesse, tact and awareness that sort of behaviour isn't allowed in most forums on this site.

I don't mind sigs that state acceptance of tips and donations (I have one in my sig too after all), post styles are pushing the limit but in the body of a post is a little tactless and a bump image that says that would be... downright trashy. Because if you post that plea often enough that it's easier to get a crappy graphic made to make your begging easier, then I'm certainly not going to give you the satisfaction of me tipping or donating to you. Take it to the charity forum in a quest thread that's nicely organised and maybe I'll consider donating, but not in a thread where I'm looking to buy or sell something.

Plain old bumping is ok, but when I see someone posting asking for a tip I consider it begging. It started out as one annoying person doing it in the exchange (seriously, every time I saw them I wanted to tell them to f**k off and stop begging), but it looks like others are following suit now. I'm considering adding everyone who does it in the exchange to my ignore list because I find it really damn annoying. stressed

*edit*
It sounds to me like some of you guys haven't seen this. The posts are generally along the lines of:
Quote:

Bump & Good Luck Selling super expensive item!!! XDDDDD desudesu

please feel free to tip this post
tip to thank for the bump pwease :333

annoying.
Free bumps are nice but no really if people do it in every single thread. That's a bit like giving everyone on gaia a really expensive item, but now everyone has one.

I really don't care, tips are reserved for posts that are actually thoughtful for me. I sometimes do it out of pity on posts like those because I literally gain more than 25 g just browsing around whilst selling.

I only ask that people keep things interesting rather than the tired "A bajillion gold pieces" or "Bump" in random colours every single post. You'd think that if these people would actually learn how to market, they could stop wasting their time trying to earn 25g increments. emotion_c8
I don't mind those. What peeves me is when someone offers, I accept, and then they never reply! @__@ Or they do reply, just not until an hour later. I mean, the only time I ever use the Exchange is when I'm impatient, so I always reply within like a minute of their post. They can't stay just a couple more minutes to accept first? crying

it's always been like that actually.
Before the tipping thing there was usually an addendum that said 'please donate' or some subtle hint at whatever they were questing for.

I appreciate the bumps to my threads--if they'd like to ask for donations along with the bump and wish of good luck, I don't mind.

depends on the place i guess. On another site I play on, people have this insanely annoying habit of going into peoples shops and posting "FF?" which basically means "First Free?" its ******** rude. Plus I don't like the random "good luck" thing to be honest : not sure why but I find it insulting...like you're not getting customers or what you're looking for so people tell you that. (it's hard to tell if they even mean it too) bumps on the other hand are good in my opinion .__. not sure why. My logic is weird.
