Welcome to Gaia! ::

Honestly the only places on Gaia that are suspect imo, for having inappropriate materials popping up are usually Chatter Box or Rally/Town Topics. I assumed if it was beyond Gaia's control we would have heard about it around the GCD more frequently. I dunno, How many more mods do you think they need though?
Lazarus Larkin
Good god you're an idiot.

The reply you give to Quibuz's last comment is ridiculous. He inventively responded to your simplistic remarks, so you called him names??!!??

The places on gaia where this happens almost on a daily base are:

  • the GD (General Discussion)
  • the CB (Chatterbox)
  • towns/rally or any flash driven space

In the last mentioned spaces a lot of cybering goes on as well. This apparently can happen since there seem to be no moderation means in the flash driven parts of gaia. Sure there is a report button, however the text and such will not be included in the report. You would have to make a screenshot and send that to a site moderator via a pm.

In a previous post i mentioned that i would like to see a team of at least 3 by gaiaonline employed omni moderators which can be reached 24/7 and aren't affected whatsoever by restrictions as to viewing explicit contents. This team would not function as a first responder, but as a support for moderators on the forums who cannot view certain reported posts as they are for example in a public facility where viewing explicit materials would be embarrassing or discouraged in other ways.

I hope i answered our questions to your satisfaction. wink

LOL apparently Lazarus Larkin has put me on his blocklist as i can't see any of his replies anymore. Thank you for quoting this one though, since i otherwise would not have been able to read that trolling comment.

Yes, you did and thank you for explaining.
Three seems pretty reasonable too. Gaia doesn't have many on-site omni moderators at the moment I suppose? Or are most working from locations other than Gaia HQ?
I does sound like it would be efficient to have mods not be limited in various ways. Though I had assumed or hoped most Mods would be working on their own personal networks. I guess I could easily be wrong . A lot of how they operate is a mystery to me honestly.

If your internet software classifies Gaia incorrectly that's hardly Gaia's fault. Kids SHOULDN'T be on this site. They aren't even allowed to be on this site. And we can use the words "sex" and "p***s" if we want to.

This website is supposed to be aimed at teens--that is, ages 13 through 19. Your observation would be news to Lanzer (Derek Liu), the founder of Gaia, who stated in an interview, ". . . almost all our audiences are within the 14 to 25 year old age range."

An overactive minority of adults on Gaia amuse themselves like flashers in front of schoolyards and in libraries, waiting for some kid to walk by just so that they can open their raincoats and flash their privates.

@ Lazarus Larkin .... I have a life lesson for you:

Before claiming someone's suggestions for improvement will not work ...

... and then suggest better ideas of improvement.

I DID think. And I posted exactly why I don't think it would work.

I don't' think any of your suggestions are remotely feasible or practical, and I think that the ONLY valid point you've made in this entire thread is that mods sometimes have differing ideas of what breaks the TOS and what doesn't.

You're also under the very mistaken assumption that Gaia is mostly young teens, I notice. Most of the GCD is over 20. Many of us are over 30.

At the risk of repeating myself, your observation would be news to Lanzer (Derek Liu), the founder of Gaia, who stated in an interview, ". . . almost all our audiences are within the 14 to 25 year old age range."

As far as i know... all moderators on gaiaonline are volunteers and none of them work from gaia HQ. So there is not a single moderator who actually appears on the payoll of gaiaonline. Most moderators either have a job (being the one taking care of cleaning and such at home while the spouse works elsewhere is a job too) or are students. Neither can always attend to reported explicit materials. That was one of the reasons given by a nice moderator when i asked him/her for an explanation as to how it was possible that full frontal nudity with a high pornographic rating was online for everyone to see for more than 20 hours!!!! To prevent such things from happening in the future such a team of paid moderators -- dedicated solely to the task of moderating the forums -- would be a good solution i think.

20 hours? That really isn't good. I support keeping the site clean, so I certainly hope this matter finds the attention of the right people. I wonder if they would address it in ATA. Might be worth a try I suppose. I wish you luck with that and thank you for your efforts! smile

Its Gaia's responsibility to interpret it as they do, however yes there are issues but not enough to warrant this topic. If you don't like it leave. Simple.

This is just like posting on an FB you don't like to complain instead of just unliking the page.

The nudity you are talking about, did you PM an online moderator about it with a descriptive subject? That is what you need to do in extreme cases like someone posting porn, gore, or giving out another's personal information.

In other news:

Jesus, did every single moderator down-vote this topic?
omg thread owner i could cry you totally understand meeeeeeeeeeeee crying . i have been on gaia since i was 15yrs old im now 25 yrs old. yes ive seen a lot of users leave cause of tos changes and offline reasons. gaia has changed a lot ...for good and worse. one thing ive been dying to know how does gaia online know a user is 13yrs old?... why do some people get banned 6months while others perminantly? . how come gaiaonline hasnt done a poll to find out how old all its users are? . i was told by a mod that another team handles bans. does this mystery team even come onto gaia?. why if us users that keep gaia online alive signing up to give up all our possessions on gaia at a moments notice cause gaia says so. i got lots more to say but i likek being on gaia it keeps me from being bored with my real life but i doubt gaia will be getting 200.00 outta my check this month i usually donate but now im going to stop. 3 of my accounts gone im still in a depression about it.
