God I hate this event.
Just like everything Gaia does nowadays, it's very half-assed.
I never liked Diedrich, and I especially don't like him now, he doesn't belong in the Exchange.
He belongs in a grave.

considering what deidrich is doing is spamming, what's the problem?
gaia set the rules in place, if they can't follow it themselves, that's no good.

Diedrich's spamming is annoying BUT for the most part it's harmless
Spamming the reports is doing harm to those reporting for valid reasons
valid reports are going to get barried or lost in all of this and nobody likes reports getting lost

it sets a precedent by the site, tho
"spamming is acceptable if done by someone that is a part of gaia"
"breaking the rules is acceptable if done by an official body of the site"
power is a double edged sword, and you must live by the same rules you enforce, otherwise you become a corrupt power
inb4 "its just a silly event npc/it's an nbc not an actual person"
by this precedent i could create a bot account set up to reblog random posts in any forum with spam replies, and if gaia ultimately bans the account/my IP i could contest it by arguing that they did the exact same function themselves.

the harm it is doing is setting a message that "members of gaia staff can break the rules if they want"
that's kind of the beginning and end of it.

See here's the thing. This issue came up when we started seeing Odanodan run around a few years back. It IS their site. They're sort of allowed to do as they want. If they wanted to close down someone's account for no reason, they can do that. If they deemed it necessary to put a certain thread in a forum it doesn't belong in, they can do that. If they wanted to make an npc bot that happens to spam a lot of forums, they can do that too. They can, and will, bend their own rules for themselves. Even if we don't like it. Sadly we, the users of gaia, do not get to make the rules.

Dude that doesn't mean that a site shouldn't be unable to follow the rules that they put in place.
At the very least they should have an option to turn it off.
Spam is the absolute simplest rule to follow. Is it their site? Yeah. Should they still adhere to the same rules that are put in place to make the user's experiences more enjoyable. ******** and I'd hold them to an even higher standard to do that.

honestly i was gonna say more, but at this point, all i want to say is:

over the past five years as this website descended into total commercialism, i've seen an increasing attitude of "they can do what they want, so what's the point" and i find it twice as exhausting as putting up with gaia's bullshit. it completely erodes at my will to interact with people on this website. how about we just shut down the feedback forum and gcd because gaia can do what it wants, so what's the point of even remarking on it? never mind that we are customers of their business - even the act of surfing their website without adblock gives them revenue, making us their customers. we have no right to express our tiredness.

shut up and let gaia do what it waaaaaaaaaants!
