Honestly I like that it's not 18+ here. It wouldn't just mean that we get "mature" items and threads. People would be posting up porn and gore and it would all go to hell quite quickly.
Gaia is really lenient in its censorship once you take off the language block. I've certainly been warned for getting to graphic with rants but I don't get pissed about it. It's nice not having that s**t shoved in my face all the time.
I don't need to see furry d**k in signatures or badly-drawn oversize balloon tits or 16 year old p***y noodz because anyone can lie about age on the internet.

Actually, you can find that in the GD.
It actually became a legitimate discussion at one point because one girl (girl A) that was trolling had save n***s of another girl (girl B). At one point B announced that she was 17 when those photos were taken or something and then the actual laws were being discussed on if A was actually breaking the laws or not and to what extent. The n***s were obviously removed but still it made for some interesting debates.
But yeah, its a good things we're not 18+ because I feel like this type of thing would happen more often. x.x;
Yes, both were breaking the law. A was in possession of child pornography with plans to distribute and B distributed it. Kids are so ******** dumb. That's not a debate. That's law. I think what needs to happen more than "interesting debates" about the genitals of minors is education. But that's a whole other story.

Point is, problems like that would snowball and multiply so fast. People would be sharing n***s and porn of all sorts and I could see Gaia being shut down. It's stuff like this that forces many "adult" sites to register a credit card or something to prove your age. Risk is too high and we should all know by now that "I didn't know he/she wasn't 18!" doesn't fly. It's still child porn as much as boning a 15 year old on spring break is statutory rape.

It was interesting in that I didn't know that much about the laws. But then, the topic wasn't one that I was all that into from the start. For some reason both being in the wrong is a foreign concept for the GD. It was either one or the other was in the wrong.

And being labeled a sex offender at such a young age will forever screw these kids over.

Also, I would hate to have to register my credit card with this site. x.x; So yeah, good thing we're pg-13.

I remember when bra shops were popular for awhile. I always wanted to know why those were okay. <o< Like, me being and adult and showing off my cheap a** underwear, I wouldn't care. But since the site is for a younger group, I figured they would have stopped that. Unless they did and I just never got the notice for it.

edit: Checked the sign shops, nothing but cleavage from my quick glance. So I guess the rules did change.

edit2: Yep. Should have checked the guidelines first. emotion_facepalm Its not allowed.

There's sexual connotation in virtually everything.

Gaia certainly can push the limits, because as long as it isn't pornographic in some way, or overt nudity, it's perfectly ok.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who remembers the Alruna fiasco.

When Alruna's Rose came to be, there was a huge uproar about lewdness on Gaia, and a lot of parent Gaians were pretty riled about it. There was a lot of controversy with it, and the respective artist got hit with a lot of hot criticism about it. Needless to say, eventually powers came in and ruled since there was no nudity or direct pornographic content, it was perfectly fine and that Gaia would not pull the item.

Since then Gaia got a lot more bold.

The fiasco I remember is users arguing that female avatar bases should be allowed to go topless since Alruna is topless in that pose where she's first starting to take her final form.

I STILL don't understand why that's all right but topless avatar bases, which don't have any more detail, aren't.

I agree, there's a Pregnancy Support thread in the LD and it has absolutely nothing to do with supporting pregnancy. It's just these teenagers showing off their premature babies. Everyday there's topics about weed and most older Gaia users are alcoholic stoners, underage or not, so they contribute to the topic and if a young impressionable mind sees the commonality of such bad habits... they might be influenced just a little bit more than they already were.

Don't even get me started on the BDSM s**t, that's basically promoting a disturbing fetish.

I just wanted to add, I think it's unfair to punish users for creating combinations Gaia made possible.

I think it unfair for some but others totally shouldn't be allowed.

Mainly the ones that depict child abuse.
I don't think we should allow users to keep avatars that promote child abuse, but I think it's Gaia's responsibility to alter the layering/poses to prevent that combination.

I realize they can't know every possible combination in advance, but once made aware of it they should alter the way the items work, and then reset the offending users avatar. That's it, case closed.

They made it possible, they should be responsible.

I think Gaia is fine the way it is. Subtle erotica is present anywhere, and people can make even the most unrelated things seem erotic anyway.

If the site had changed it's age limit, I'd have a hard time explaining to other peeps why I'm on an adult site with such cartoony looking characters and website design sweatdrop Well I mean, that isn't my biggest worry, it's just I don't see how the site should have to change if people are going over the boundaries that gaia has set for them.

And... if I did want to access adult media, I mean, hey there's plenty on the internet already. redface
