Do Asians have a thing for oranges, well, to be more specific, mandarins? Whenever there's a celebration to be had, we (my family/relative/community) usually get about 3 cases of mandarin oranges to share.

Lanzer, stop being so relate-able. Only my little brother and I can take more than our fair share of mandarins (seriously, they're delicious). scream

I can't speak for all the Asians, but I heard from a Chinese (or was he only half-Chinese) friend once that round things symbolized money. So having round fruits like oranges or grapes around (especially during New Year) was supposed to bring in luck and money into the household. At least, that's how I understood his explanation...But if your question concerned mandarins specifically, then I can only speculate that it is probably a fruit that is bountiful in China?
