See, when Johnny Gambino was a young man exploring the deserted Island, he came across a beautiful memaid resting on the shore. Lying next to her was a beautiful shell necklace. Johnny remembered hearing an old story where Mermaids needed special necklaces, and without them they wouldn't be able to return to the ocean.
So Johnny stole it.
The Mermaid woke up and, seeing Johnny with her necklace, became very frightened and started to cry. Flustered, Johnny tried to calm her down. The Mermaid could not be consoled, and she said:
"Man, are you going to eat me now?"
Johnny, taken aback, cried, "What! Eat you!? I'd sooner eat my own head!"
The Mermaid calmed down and looked at Johnny, puzzled.
"Then, Man, what do you want of me?"
Johnny looked over the Mermaid, utterly enchanted by her. She was exceptionally beautiful, despite her fish tail and scales - and in fact, it added to her exotic beauty.
"Fish," he said, copying the Mermaid's way of speech, "if you would let me, I would make you my wife."
The Mermaid blinked and seemed to think about this.
"Man, if I married you...could we have a child?"
Johnny let out a hearty laugh, "Of course! We'll have a hundred children if you want it!"
And for the first time, the Mermaid smiled.
"Then, Man, I will marry you."
"Please, call me Johnny."
"Johnny...my name is Gina."
~
Johnny, sly one he is, came up with a whole backstory for Gina, in order to hide that she was a mermaid. He put her in a wheelchair, first so she could go about the Mansion with relative ease, second so he could cover her tail with a blanket and tell everyone she was crippled.
Gina took to life as a Gambino like a...well, a fish to water. She was a delight at parties, and everyone was enchanted by Johnny's young wife. In order to get by, Gina needed a glass of ocean salt water three times a day. The maid's didn't think much of it - maybe salt water helped fight whatever decease that made her crippled.
Soon after, they had their first child - Gino Gambino. Gina was estatic and treated the boy like he was a precious jewel.
However, Johnny was worried. He gathered a group of scientists (which would eventually become G-Corp) to study Gino, and they came to the conclusion that once Gino hit puberty, his mother's side would start to show. What thet meant exactly, they couldn't be sure. It could be anything from a fish-tail for Gino to other strange powers. They created pills for Gino to take that would hopefully keep his "non-human" side in check and under control.
Things were not always good, however. Johnny was extremely possesive of Gina. He became jealous whenever she so much as glanced at a man. At the heart of it all, Johnny was terrified she would leave him.
One day, when Gino was about two or three, Johnny left on a business trip. Gino was soundly asleep so Gina, bored, decided to explore the attic.
You'd think this would be an arduous task, but when Gina's wheelchair could go no further, she simply hopped off and pulled herself along with her strong arms. Anyway, while exploringl, she came across something she hadn't seen in years...
Her necklace.
Gina stared at the necklace for a long time. She had made a life for herself there...she had grown fond of Johnny, despite his faults, and Gino...
She put on the necklace, and memories of the sea rushed back to her. She could hear her sisters calling to her from the deep.
I'll just go back for a little while, she thought,
just to say hello to my sisters...then I'll come back...
But once she snuck out of the mansion and leapt into the water, she realized how much she missed her home under the sea. As her sisters surrounded her, she almost forgot all about her life on land.
Except Gino...he was like her. He belonged in the sea with his mother.
Someday, Gino, she thought,
when you get older, I'll take you home. I promise...
