Lately artificial inflation has been preventing me from buying items needed to complete avatars. Like this one.
http://www.gaiaonline.com/marketplace/itemdetail/80721/50/?sortBy=94
It's supposed to be only 80mil, but its AIed to 1.5 bil. -_-
And that's just one case.
It seems that people have been going into tektek and buying up the supposedly cheap items and inflating them. -_-
So what are your thoughts? Do you actually give in and buy the items? Or do you wait for it to hopefully go back down?

I tried replaced it with http://www.gaiaonline.com/marketplace/itemdetail/52351/50/?sortBy=94
ABP:100 mil LBP: 450 mil FML

Edit: BECAUSE SOME PEOPLE DO NOT KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AI AND HYPERINFLATION PLEASE READ
AI is when users try to buy up all of an item and and sell the item at an increased or "inflated" price
Hyperinflation- Happens when the value of gold itself declines rapidly, in gaias case it's because of gold generators
TL;DR This thread is about artificial "inflation" and not hyperinflation.

Edit: Someone gifted me Lady Jane's Lace, yay!
However, AI will probably still continue to bother me, does it bother you?

One of our mules is now worth over 600 billion.

A mule.

Thanks inflation.

Handsome Man-Lover

That seems to be what happens whenever all listings of an item get bought up. Whoever puts theirs up next lists for a super inflated price.

In a way it's adjusted to the current gold value, but at the same time it's very frustrating.

I've stopped buying and selling all together.

I buy nothing from the Marketplace.
I sell nothing in the Marketplace.

I have more than enough items after 10+ years on this site to have a differently styled avatar every day if I wanted to. I'm just totally done with the Marketplace. Totally done. I choose to not participate in this hyperinflation and AI'ing bullshit at all.

Magic Warrior

It is incredibly frustrating.

Though I'm one of the lucky few that do have a disposable income, and that can eventually buy nic things, I still hate that things are going so bad.
It makes donating harder, and the overall game sucky.
Because you just can't win like this.

Yeah, I don't buy items as often as before. It just doesn't sit right with me to see the ABP at 10mil,
and the LBP at 1bil...But, I've gathered enough items throughout the years to keep me satisfied for
the most part.

I've stopped trying to buy things as well unless we get some sort of deflation with them (they drop to under 1b). I am too afraid to sell what I have, too, even items I don't want to use. I've accumulated a lot of items and can play with them for a while, but it does make things pretty boring without new stuff. I'll put in maybe $5 or $10 if I see an item from the cash shop I want, but I'm also going to be limiting those purchases since I don't like the fact that I have to buy cash to get what I want. The marketplace is absolutely insane, and if the staff doesn't think so, then that's pretty bogus to me.

✰ Someone tried to AI Nyaneko Shadow, but it went down to like 3b thank god, so it didn't affect me.

Shameless Streaker

It's made selling and buying much more frustrating for me. emotion_8c
Once I see an item I want is AI'd I completely give up on getting it sweatdrop . Since I don't earn gold quick enough to keep up with the inflation I don't bother questing AI'd items. I used to just wait until it came out in the next item-generator deflation CI, but we really don't get them anymore.
and wow how does everyone on this page have such an awesome avi?

If it's an item that's obviously being AI'ed, I just give up let it sit on my wishlist until something gives. I refuse to pay the asking price. Perhaps someone else will give in and satisfy the greedy people, but it's not going to be me. :/ (though most of the time I can't afford it anyway, so really it's moot. xD)

Heart Tamer

Items are only as expensive as people are willing to pay for them. With as much gold as there is on the site, what seems expensive to you will be nothing but a small dent in someone else's wallet. If something is in short supply, it will undoubtedly seem more attractive a purchase to someone out there with too much gold. If an item has little demand, it will eventually go back down in price. I would instead lay blame on the gold generators first and foremost. You also have to realize that it's this huge influx of gold that has made it possible for some individuals to take risks and play "God" when deciding to try their hand at buying up an item's stock and pricing it much higher.

Generally, I ******** despise people who mess with the market in this way, but I also understand it may be their way of earning gold, even if it's shitty for everyone else. Its normally people who aren't good at vending and want to take a lazy/risky approach instead. I mean, you have people who gamble a hell of a lot more in the casinos than what they risk by trying to inflate an item, especially if it's a popular one.

Leader

People do this , because if they sell it on the average they will earn less mone then the lowest market place price , they sell it on lowest price because the item they quests aren't 10-20 millions rolleyes

minghii's Compadre

Sexy Bun

It's obnoxious.
But most times just temporary. Just wait a couple days and things should return to normal, as long as the item in question is not in high demand.

The last item I need to complete my avi has been eluding my grasp for at least half a year. Every time I've been less than 10% away from its price, its price has inflated ten- if not hundredfold.

IDK, if 1bil=1mil in the olden days, I don't really think they're worth that much?
I don't think it's natural, it's just artificial. Trying to make artifically rare items. >_>
