Unfortunately, that day could be coming sooner than you think. We already have a sponsor shop, what's to stop sponsors being put on the map? Theoretically they already should have been.

whats wrong with sponsor shops?
******** they should have more...

i enjoy the fantastical parts of gaia the magic and make believe
but a healthy dose of reality and fun things like realistic clothes and concepts im sorry

its what alot of this site needs
and its selfish of you as users to think otherwise

Hey, you're the one who insinuated it would worry you in your last post. *shrug* Personally I don't think it's a big step from what we already have.

It's not selfish to want content outside of sponsorship quests and cash shop updates. Generally I don't mind it, and am happy to take advantage of it, but it's hardly community building, and too much of it is going to drive users away, especially if it's not carefully chosen.
Company's do not care what the Members want, they just want the Income and the Member count.
I highly doubt the CEO is going to start caring any time soon. Because he wants money and he is getting it.We need to show Gaia if they want our money they need to prove they deserve it. But it is going to be impossible we can't control what others do with there money. I used to buy sealed letters every month but these pass few months have been quite disappointing.

It was painful watching Lanzer get blamed for the lack of an easter event, even more so having him bow his head and take all that criticism. I've come to miss the old Gaia, and honestly wish that there was someway we could do something to turn back the clocks to the time before we had all these sponsor quests and stores and worlds and all the other crap its brought to website we all love.

The fact that Gaia is losing the employees that wish it were the same as before the sponsors, it feels like that's another losing blow to us who want the old Gaia back.

I doubt the CEOs care much about our opinion anyway. They're just trying to suck money out of Gaia. They don't care if we get events or not.

So this comes to the conclusion of my post.

Just what can we do?

We've already got an MTV store.

uhh mtv is a great sponsor
popular music and internet culture were made to be partners

im not one of those people who hates it because it talks about popular music and w/e

ive always found it to be a rather entertaining medium and enjoyed it for what it is
just like i do with gaia.

a fastfood place that sells burgers im not sure i could understand it being a sponsor
and thats where my problem would lie

What would your opinion be on Gaia starting a new shop, sponsored by Payless, that sells a ton of new shoes?

Some of the items would be decent, too. There'd be some nice new shoe items. Think it'd be worth it?
That makes me quite sad. It's often times hard for us regular users to understand how a corporation like Gaia works behind the scene, but this journal entry gives us a little more of a taste.

Unfortunately, I don't know what we could do differently to change things. People here have been complaining about the site becoming too commercial for as long as I can remember, and none of it has done any good. I think no matter what, Gaia will never go back to being a smaller company with 30 employees. It will always be run by the CEO and the other higher-ups. Nothing will change that. All we can do is hope that someone can find a way to give us the kind of site we want, while still attracting more members and making more money.

Actually, now that I say that, it sounds like a paradox. I don't know how we can have it both ways. sad

Once in a while me and Cid agree on something. This is one of those times. Gaia is in its own personal dark-ages right now. I mean, sure, some of the happenings over the last few weeks reminded me of old gaia, but I doubt that this will last. We need to band together as a community. This is dusk of our Darkest Day. We must rally against the coming with the bright light of comrade! We must be the sword and hammer in Lanzer's hands in his battle against this change!

We disagree a lot? O_o

I love your analogies. Makes me feel like I can so something physical, even though I can't. Like...be there or...something...

We can convince them that it makes good financial sense to listen to their users and staff.

Because frankly, it does.

what kind of content do you want exactly?

we've been spoiled with events, plotlines, items, games

have you already forgotten the mini movie animated extraveganza they even made for us?

and when i meant it would worry me, i promise i meant only in the very slightest
seriously, if they want to put a mcdonalds in there sometime to pay for another feature for us

they can ******** do it.

Yes, but if you do something like stop donating, they'll just shove even more sponsors and ads in our faces.

As I said, it's counterproductive. And it seems that the more ads are thrown at us, the more likely we are to leave. Could this be Gaia's demise?

I'm going to put myself in the mindset of a corporate mentality for a minute, or what I think it could be, in devils' advocate style -

" A handful, or even a few hundred customers withdrawing their support or funds or voicing their dissatisfaction is not going to make any difference to my company. The more users we attract, the more kids we have buying our handy cash cards, they don't even need bank accounts any more. It will more than make up for any small protest on your part. For every older member who bows out, 10 more will join as we push the advertising for the site. We'll give them games to play and items and a battle system and they won't be particularly concerned about a "community". Gaia will be like an online videogame, they can talk about it elsewhere if it comes to that.

The only way you can make a difference is to seriously hurt my company wallet. How are you going to do that? You have no real power. If older staff leave, we'll get new ones, with no connection to Gaia's past. We can carry on without you, unless you can find a way to change my interest in this site."

And there's the challenge. How do you influence a corporate mentality when your custom is not actually necessary, you being the long-time members and possibly a dwindling section of the userbase. What Arrowchan says in her last post is the best possibilty, give them reason to believe in the financial gain of retaining loyalty. I don't know how though, I'm not a business person.

When is the last time we had a really good plot update? Events? We had no Easter, Christmas was an orphan idea thought up at the last moment and Halloween was about as good as it got. H2K7 at least stuck to some old views.

And don't even get me started on the piece of s**t that was MMVII. Even the staff hated it. And if McD's sponsored Gaia and we started getting Gaia plushies in happy meals...oh god, I'm out.

That is a good point, but there's one problem with that.

They aren't listening to us now, heck, they aren't even listening to the older employees who know us better than the newer ones.

It's rather depressing DX

And thank you. I was going for that kind of feel.

Your argument would be valid if the sponsorship was actually about music. Instead, it's about a reality show about a group of stuck up girls and their spoiled life.

I fail to see how that has anything to do with music at all.
