The point is we want Gaia to know, and we want the companies that sponsor Gaia to know as well.
The wired.com article on Niche markets was perfect. Gaia is a niche market. Shoving a sponsor into that Niche won't work.

I haven't bought Gaia Cash in a while. Maybe I won't for a while. Since apparently this isn't the website I thought it was. I want the staff to have creative freedom, and I want Gaia to be about the Gaians, user and Staff alike, not about the money.

Look at neopets. Started off as a hangout for college kids, got big, expanded into a younger market, started to accept sponsors. Slowly at first, then more, and more, and more, until most of the features were sponsored, then they made a Premium Service that cost money, and now it's a soulless Viacom owned monster run by Scientologists.

I would be willing to use a banner and I think that would be a great idea. A wonderful way to spread the message and make more people aware of what is going on.

Also if people are up for it I think a boycott of the MCs would be best. It's something gaia could see right away and would be the easiest to say "If we don;t get this then we won't buy this" Of coarse it would mean sacrifice on our part. But sometimes a sacrifice is required for the greater good.

We need some sort of project that shows our thoughts and feelings on this that we can show, not a protest per se, but something where we as Gaians can gather and show our support for it.

It would be good if we could get them to work. The problem with ignoring the sponsors is you would have to get a lot of people to do it. I also don't mean just silently boycotting. Like I said boycotting doesn't usually work period even a boycott of cash shop item and then such probably wouldn't work because you couldn't get enough people to do it. I just think ignoring the sponsors just wouldn't draw attention. For the sponsors it's enough to get their name out there. You don't have to do the quest or get the item for them to be noticed. The fact that people see an announcement about them is enough. So just to not do the quest won't really effect anything. That and your fighting the wrong people.

I think we need to think about something other then trying to fight these sponsors. They don;t care either way. If we don't give them money then they can take their money else were. What we need to do is getting Craig Sherman's attention. So we have to do something that directly effects him.

You've had a LOT of success with No-pants day -- how about a day to send the signal to the staff and corporate types that they're making a mistake with the way they're handling the site we love?

How about we all equip that terrible item known as the mistake for a day, and encourage GCDers and SFers and even GDers (in their own weird way) and ADers and EDers to try and set aside the day and our collective differences to discuss the effects of negative corporate tactics on the community?

I love Gaia, and like you, working there was something I REALLY wanted to pursue, but reading this....wow. It's disappointing to hear that Gaia is turning as micromanaged as most animation companies, where the absolute least creative people are put in the most amount of power.

I understand that money is needed and sponsors are nessescary to keep the site running, but the community should not be compartmentalized into the "LOL TEEN" market -- there are MANY of us here in our 20's and older, and active with open wallets and hearts to make sure this place keeps running.

I think whoever decided that going to that "What Teens Want" marketing conference last year and spending OUR MC money to court sponsors people have largely disliked needs to explain to us WHY this decision was made. I thinkt hat we deserve a greater amount of transparency between why certain things are and aren't happening around the site, and I do believe it's time for the people making the decisions to sack the plot and change the focus of the site beyond all former recognizability need to sit down and tell the rest of the community WHY these decisions were made. As consumers as well as loyal users, we deserve this.

Don't make Lanzer, or Fleep, or Juno or any of the other amazing creative staff take the brunt of this blame. I want to hear from middle management, and I want the opportunity for the community to be able to tell them how completely wrong they all are.
