I don't want to see Gaia pushing away more from the community. Maybe some think it would work to gain new members without worrying about keeping users who care about the plot, etc. That method works if you are fascinated with flashy large numbers as a sign of success in the short run. (And I suspect most CEO's are. I am sure they take large numbers very seriously. Almost as serious as we take the internet.) I joined in 04 so I admit that this statement might be wrong for many new users, but it seems to be logical to me anyways-> New users are not as aware of what they are 'missing.' They will hear promises of new features, new sponsors, etc, and that will be their idea of what Gaia is. But it's always been more than just new stuff.
What kept me on Gaia this long is not what Gaia is anymore. I realize they need money, but like foobarbazquux said, there are different ways to run things. Different ways to keep their developers more involved, keep people more creative and users feeling like Gaia really is its own world still. If Gaia could be even more plot, community and individual driven, I think it's potential for growth would be so much higher than going down the sponsor and corporate path. Because we all see that already, everywhere else. What made me excited about Gaia was that it was different, meaning that I could see the creativity and effort that went into things. Really, wtf, where else do you get things like grunnies and watermeat? xDD
naemdroppin time.
Arrowchan had a good summary I read on a previous page, but I'll bring up part of it again: communication! This I think is not just important from Gaia to users, but from users to Gaia. If we want to talk about this, it's probably fair to say that we need to initiate. We do have many forums at our disposal after all xD If people want to do something, it needs to reach out beyond the GCD. ((I'm usually outside of the GCD myself. xP))
mannn, sorry I felt like a rant<3
