I understand the need for money, I know nothing is free and the staff needs to be paid. But at what cost does Gaia want to push to get more money? Why is Lanzer the new Queen Elisabeth? Why aren't our old and trusted staff members participating anymore? Is that all the soul of Gaia is now? I wish they'd find a way to do things without the help of MTV and other such corporations. I joined Gaia, and fell in love with Gaia because there were no pressures from such things... You could join in a huge Halloween event filled with zombies and no worry about MTV popping up. But now I think any new zombie skins will have the Disney logo branded on their left butt cheek.

Just to let you know, that last paragraph gave me funny images of things I SHOULD not have been imaging, like Lanzer in drag bending over and receiving a Mickey Mouse branding from Fergie.

Just thought I'd let you know.
I was here a bit before the Mimzy promotion and loved it. The events seemed to keep the user interetained and now... It seems that the events that promote things are gone.

I only came to realize how Gaia was going comertial when the Skittles thing came out and we are still waiting for the thing to finish up. And the more the events to promote increases, the more our MC's seem to be cool since now they consintraite on the Cash Shop things.

New users are thinking that we have had that shop up since the dawn of time and we haven't. It gets on my nerves when I see those users act as if they worked their butt off selling those cash shop items that they got only because they asked mommy and daddy.

Yes, I understand that every buisness's goal is to make money, but from what I heard about Gaia, money was just a plus. What was more importaint was having fun. Now I feel like Gaia is losing its way. What is the point of Gaia making money when the users who have been here for at least a year are seeing that Gaia is not being as fun as it was.

Yeah, they made pinball. But I don't care if they did. It's not fun knowing that the artists and designers were basically told they had to do it in this order and way, dotting every eye and every t crossed.

The older items show the fun they all had. It tells us "I had so much fun making this that I want you to have one too" by all the Gaia staff. Those older items had a "soul" in them. They showed the excitment and thrill and joy of the project; the emotions being inhanced even more when it was over and ready to be revealed. Now the new items are just there. Yeah, some of them look like it was a pain to make, like the dresses and hat that look almost life like, but they don't have that "soul" to give it flair.

Gaia, please put that flair and pep back into the items. Before the corperations took over, your worst items were still the best because they show how much fun Gaia is.

I can bet that if Lanzer knew that this would happen he would have dropped kicked the greased-up-Paris-Hilton-Monster with the Donald Duck sailor hat eating a pot of chocolete skittles while Gaians throw the Kunai knives the developers conviniantly left for the users to "have fun" as we [INSERT BLOODY DETAILS NOT SUTABLE FOR VIEWERS BELOW THE AGE OF 18. WE ARE REPLACING THE IMAGE WITH LANZER IN A DRESS PLAYING THE COACOA NUT SONG.]. But unfortunaitly, Lanzer is no psychic. I only wish that Lanzer does win this battle and reclaims the position as our King Arthor and the Devlopers are the Knights of the Round Table of Gaia.

How do you know Fergie isn't here already, hrmm? lol
Ant was here! xd

Well thought out and passionate thread, Cid. I am definitely sad to see Foobarb leaving Gaia, she was my cubicle neighbor when I first started working here nearly 2 years ago now (my Gaiaversary is June 5th if anyone wants to get me a gift xp ). It's sad when anyone who started here before or around the same time as I did leaves, but especially the ones I've built friendships with over the years - shouts out to twobit and Truantduck!

Gaia has definitely changed over my time here, but all-in-all I feel it's been for the better. The website and community has more to do on a much better looking and easier to use platform than ever. The amazingly talented team of artists and developers we have here now is just mind boggling. Sure the staff has tripled since I first started working here, but there is still plenty for us all to do, to improve upon, and to continue working to make this the single best community on the internets!

I always thought that Gaians may end up paying for the site. I won't pay a penny though, no matter what, especially as it's just pixels(addicting pixels though sweatdrop ).

You and I agree on this topic, yet when it comes to the future of this site... I really don't want to think of how much more comercial it is going to get. Yes I do snag up the comercialized items, why not I can sell the damned things for gold, however minimal, it adds up when I am questing for those every so pricey old itmes that I really like and want.

Thou I have thought like some of the others here, I have been expecting the Gaia powers that be to start charging for site access. Yet as my younger sister, also on Gaia, pointed out, "why would they charge monthly fees when they have the store and the cash shop that brings in money as well as those corp sponsors?" Good point but once the money starts flowing in... adults here know what can happen, greed takes over and the want for more and more takes over, putting what was once meant to be fun on the bench, to be forgotten.

Only time will tell what the future holds. We can only hope that it dont get out of hand and lost to the corps who seek only added money in their lined pockets.

I suppose it's 'cause we've had more communication with the admin staff lately?
Or maybe just the promise of events makes the drama go away. xd
Pro post.

Good work Cid on keeping this updated. It's nice to see both sides in one coherent single post.

I thought that this direction would be inevitable. Especially due to the nature of this site, it isn't just a we do one thing cool and hand it to you and you use it at your leisure. Its up here 24-7 and needs to expand with everything the users do. To me its either grow or wither, and growing often has some not so nice consequences.

Of course, there are things that can be done, ways to work around the growing bureaucracy and compartmentalization etc and I guess that we should focus on that now.

To me, the amount of effort gaia puts into communicating with the users is amazing as compared to other huge sites/games/services and I recognize and like that.
