I feel sad when I think about how Gaia has changed. Since 2003 I enjoyed the events, the forums and the excitement and developments that the staff managed with their small team. As Gaia's population grew in numbers so did the expectancy. We had 80,000 people on at a time, it was great and Gaia never disappointed. When the staff made an event that went wrong they told us, and apologized if it were needed. Gaia was a family.
But the wrong move, to me, was getting a CEO. I'm sure hes a great guy and only has the best of intentions, but his intentions are to make Gaia successful. But in what way? With users and profit. I never felt that way about Gaia before, but now... All I feel is that I'm another users in a huge website going along with the crowd and being offered products up the yin-yang. I feel like my opinion does not matter, or that they may not even take it even a bit seriously because I am only one user. When I went to the GCD after a few sponsor-only quests, with worries of a future like this, I was flammed and laughed at. Theres no way Gaia would do such a thing, right? Well look around now GCD.
I love Gaia, I love the items... But when a developing project comes before a very important event... I can't help but feel like Gaia is changing for the worse. The battle system has always been talked about, it was supposed to be fun and something for all the users. But now it feels like they're forcing it, and they're even putting it above the users. Like it'll be some God-send for the company and will make them a lot more money. More users will come, and more will pay for the cash shop... And Gaia will become more money oriented.
I understand the need for money, I know nothing is free and the staff needs to be paid. But at what cost does Gaia want to push to get more money? Why is Lanzer the new Queen Elisabeth? Why aren't our old and trusted staff members participating anymore? Is that all the soul of Gaia is now? I wish they'd find a way to do things without the help of MTV and other such corporations. I joined Gaia, and fell in love with Gaia because there were no pressures from such things... You could join in a huge Halloween event filled with zombies and no worry about MTV popping up. But now I think any new zombie skins will have the Disney logo branded on their left butt cheek.
I find it hard to enjoy this Gaia.
