Welcome to Gaia! ::

Omnipresent Guardian

I'm not really bothered about this site. I joined it for the fun of it, and to see how it turns out.

Actually I stand corrected, I just looked and I see new items in green. I'm guessing it's a marijuana leaf theme set.

I think the worst part is knowing that there is a time limit for this site. based on the pattern Gaia has set with the majority of it's past projects, the only thing to guess is how long this site will be up.

And it's not feeling like an adult site to me, it feels more like a basic dress up site. Other than the forums and posting peoples sexual fantasies, what exactly is there to do?

Just like Gaia, That site has no hook to speak of. What is special about that site to lure users to sign up? Reddit and 4Chan are already established sites and have tons of users. Gaia still has no clue as a business and this is doomed to follow the same pattern.

What is special about this site you can't get anywhere else? The answer is "Nothing at all" If a website has no hook, noone is going to give two shits about signing up and giving them money. Constantly marketing to the "I LOVE CUTE" crowd limits their financial income. It's like having an ice cream place with only Chocolate, Vanilla, and Strawberry and wondering why a different ice cream place, with 31 flavors, gets more business.

The majority of items in the "cash shop" of Tentacl are pink and female oriented. Even some of the male clothing is unable to be equipped by a female avatar such as a neck scarf only available to a male avatar.

Then again, the pair of pants I wanted my avi to have their wasn't even lined up correctly with the base. Gaia has been around since 2003, how does the staff run into these basic problems? These are things I would expect someone with 0 experience to have to master. You guys have been around for years, come on!!

The problem with the avatar system is that they were a bit too ambitious. Each of the avatar bases are supposed to have a "size", which users are supposed to pick, in addition, unlike the Gaia bases these are obviously very male or female bases.

This pretty much means that each article of clothing has to be readjusted for each body size and if you wanted clothes for both genders it would have to be re-done in order to fit right. There's a reason why most avatar websites don't look overly realistic or have this barbie doll feel to it, it allows for easier adjustments to the clothing.

I don't mind the fact there isn't that much at the moment on the site, provided they update often and frequently, mainly because it's in beta. Besides that, if anyone wanted to dress up, there are many longer established sites that could do better. So whatever the grab is, it has to be something within the community itself.

Would reaper's Gaia based NSFW art be the grab for that site? Because there's a Gaia creative section and she has an NSFW thread there, which makes me think she has some very racy NPC stuff going on there.

rofl I've seen that thread actually, hadn't been expecting it. Jokingly, maybe, the fangirls would swoon for sure yes?

In all seriousness xd I was referring to the whole community culture. Despite the backlash against an 18+ site, there is merit to the idea. Because most forum sites cater to the 13+ crowd, there's a lot of, mature but not in the juvie sense jokes, pictures, talks and role play that often don't get a chance on an avatar site like this. Mainly because just trying to filter something like that is a mod's nightmare. Really most avatar forum sites are 13+ because making rules on what you're not allowed to do is just safer and easier and logistically won't kill the poor mods.

A mature site, is actually a great grab if you think about it from an idealistic point of view. You're talking about a website where people can still have an avatar but engage in activities that are respectful, mature and more interesting to an older audience that you normally could not get in a forum like Gaia because you have to be careful of the kiddies. A kind of discourse that isn't quite allowed by the ToS. Role players especially are aware of this because they often skirt very close to breaking the ToS despite not having any cyber scenes because some of the role plays are more gritty in nature at times.

The problem is, we're not that mature, obvious from some of the posts on that site. Some of the posts on there aren't because people find it titillating, or they want porn on the site, they're doing it because they can. So there will be issues in that regard, and that's just what happens when you allow mature stuff, you're going to get a lot of bad along with some good.

That's the thing right there. The more "Because I can" stuff people post the more the site fails to be interesting and keep people there and the more of a failure it becomes on the whole. If that site fails then we'll be right back where we were when HoC failed. There will be layoffs and staff members struggling to get things done and it'll be a huge mess.

For a site like that having a place to discuss the current events of the day, your basic entertainment section, a place for sports, a politics section, a place for sticking up artwork, a place to talk relationships that doesn't involve getting too detailed about fetishes and fantasies, your basic chit chat spot, and a spot to get real racy when discussing stuff like your sex life and sex toys. Those are the basics any good adult site should have. On top of that anything extra they add is icing on the cake. The fact that they're letting nearly everything slide by has me thinking they don't know how to run and police what's supposed to be a college age and up site because they're too used to running your basic teens and older avatar site like Gaia. It's obvious with the way some of the clothing fits the avatars and how the site layout looks like it only works on 22 inch monitors. That place needs a lot of work on the concept and policing side of things before it can come out of beta and be considered a stand alone site.

Sometimes I really don't like that I agree with you.
Is it really asking that much to want this place to be successful? But I know that is out of your and my control. emotion_facepalm

It's soo easy to get bitter here, ugh.

Oh, so that's what that was! I'll check it out later because im lazy.

At a first glance, im glad there isn't a too-similar avatar thing. because i can't split my attention between two sites. burning_eyes But those avatars do look neat! And I think the headshots work very well for that. ^u^ The level system makes me curious about what that's about.

Haven't seen much content so far since i just skimmed it, but I do like an "official" hub for 18+ gaians. 3nodding

When you don't want to listen to that voice of reason and then realize "Damn they're right" it can really bug you. I want that place to be successful too. Because if it can stand on its own then it can start to earn its own revenue and maybe some of the hardcore cash earning Gaia Interactive has been doing through this site alone will ease up and they can focus on other things like maybe updating some plot or finally getting the Inventory arranger out of the QA department. It looks like they have that site set up from the beginning to be a self sufficient revenue stream for them. They just need to start working on getting that flowing as well as starting to attract users from outside the current Gaia Interactive user base.

The levelling system grants items, gold, and diamonds. From the looks like it, level 40 is angelic wings and 50 is an angelic halo.

Glad that they added a filter for the NSFW section now.

Noob

this is going to be another website for lonely, single men or women to promote sex and watching them on cam.

Ah, thanks! my #1 worry was that it'd split my attention from gaia because i am heavily invested in the avatar system. but while that's pretty cool, it's not necessary for me. ^^

Even better! I mean it's nice to have the option to filter strictly nsfw from the general adult stuff.

Nah. It's just a different option for people to do on the side.

Yeah. That should help.

There's really not much of that at all. The first day of open beta was not well controlled, but since then the NSFW stuff is mostly corralled in the NSFW section, and the rest of the site is, for the most part, quite civil and pleasant. Many of the people I've interacted with there are married or in committed relationships and are not at all lonely or looking to find sexual gratification on the website.
