Ephebophile - Well.... I do cringe at you saying Gaia will turn into Neopets. After the cig ban I'm pretty confident Gaia will be staying true to its users. And as long as Premium user only does things like... say give you more slots to put outfits in, or adds a little tool thing that does navigation stuff... things like that I'd be totally fine with it. If it handles it with care and doesn't make the masses feel cheated it's all good. I just think it'd be really hard to walk down that road.

On the other hand. I love this thread. Omg. I love you OP (Sorry I can't remember your username anymore but you're awesome!)

Staying true to its users does not necessarily mean they will not walk down the path of Neopets. When I said they're going to be going down that path, I did not mean in terms of morality, but in terms of a business model. Now, would they be exactly like Neopets? No, not at all, unless they really did sell out to Viacom which in that case you could expect to see Gaia turn into a Neopets v2.0, just more modern and hip. That's not my point though so I digress. Gaia is already on the path that Neopets was and is on in terms of how they conduct their business, and it's not bad. It's fine. It becomes a necessity and it's reasonable. It's just something that users have to come to terms with, accept, and adapt to. If Gaia doesn't go with the flow and adapt their business model in coordination with their site growth, then in the long run it could actually hurt them and then where would they end up? It could break this place. As exaggerated and dramatic as that sounds, it's realistic. Creating a premium user feature would be one of these things they can, and as I said, I think they will eventually do, but again, it wouldn't be bad. It will be helping them. They scratch our backs, we scratch their backs with money. Their premium user feature would most likely come with benefits that, indeed would not have an outrageous and heavy advantage over that of free users, but they would be good enough that would justify the price tag (which definitely would be no less than $5/month minimum). So little things like more slots for outfits and some navigation stuff, although yes a possibility, those would definitely not be the only benefits. Gaia will undoubtedly change over time and adapt to monetary needs on their part, and knowing them they will do everything in their power to make those changes as easy and satisfactory to their users as possible while maintaining their essential goal making money off of it whatever they release.

There's nothing I really dissagree with... but as someone who was addicted to Neopets for how many years to go on haitus for... 7 years? and then come back to what it is now I would like to say YOU SUCK Viacom. That's what happened? I was wondering what happened. crying

On topic: As long as they don't give users soulbound items.

I friggin hate soulbound items on principle. scream

I don't mind spending real cash on Gaia. The site needs a little help to keep it running.
I don't know why people complain about this though most of them spend a lot of money on manga, anime and video games.

I don't like the idea of a "Premium membership" though. It might create a gap between the users who can afford it and those who can't.

I think Gaia Cash is taking over and with new features gaia cash will be there! Gaia cash is shiney and now users can get cash from the money tree so I think gaia covered their bases. Donation has no meaning in 2011.. You got to buy the real nice things in life unfortunately even gaia has to show us reality, even though I pretend I'm in a fantasy world when I log in to gaia I feel like a sugarplum princess with my blade of uniicorn horn and shield made from null crystal, in real life my name is jeff and I deliver pizza
