It certainly seems like there has just been a huge tide of Gaians who just don't want to listen on this subject.

I'm only from 04, but I myself am glad Gaia did this, even if I can only afford to buy the items through the marketplace.

Yeah I know what you mean. Dont know if you seen the GCD last night, full of Threads titled "Gaias the next neopets!!" or "Gaias a sellout!" its ridiculous really. I posted in a few Threads here and there, but I got tired afterwards of explaining myself so I left for the night.

Gaia needs money to keep itself alive, end of story. I doubt it'll be the next neopets considering how well Gaia is doing so far. Its natural to complain I agree, but I wish people would listen more rather than "no its my way and my way only!" theories. D:

No, I haven't been feeling well so I wasn't online much yesterday, but if it was worst then what I am seeing today, then I feel rather bad for the Gaia staff.

I also feel that Gaia is a FAR cry from ever being anything like Neopets.

I'm not saying the Gaia staff is greedy. I understand a lot of people use this as their careers, keeping it running costs money, etc.

I just think they need to admit that Gaia is NO LONGER A FREE SITE.

When you have the coolest, bestest, funnest stuff costing money, sure technically, your account is free, and technically you can just spend lots and lots more time and effort to buy the stuff that's for sale in the marketplace. But people who spend money have such a huge advantage, that it's just not really fair to call the site "free" anymore. It's misleading.

Your argument would work... if Gaia didn't allow the items to be tradeable. But they are. So in reality anyone can have access to them. All you have to wait for is for them to be on the MP. I don't see many of them being that expensive because they will always be available so they don't have a rareness to drive their price up. So in the end you can get the item no matter what. I know plenty of people who don't drop a penny for MCs but they get them every month. Just save your gold and then anyone can get one of the cash only items.

And I'm sure those of you without Paypal or credit cards or bank accounts, or access to a Target or Rite Aid, will figure things out. Most of the items are going to be rather cheap and I'm sure the market will make them acquireable.

Everything in this world costs money and usually the better they are the more they cost and so far, this one isn't costing us anything.

If they were whoring out then there would be advertisements on TV, there would be premium accounts, there would be a charge to play the website each month and million and one other things that are so much worse then having a store that offers cash items.

Well at least make a better argument as to why you would be upset about the changes and updates. And any site is always Business. How do you think they run? they magically have money appear?

For one, they aren't asking much. We all knew that when "Gaia Cash" was introduced that somewhere down the line there were going to be
"Cash only" items other than MCs.

It's no big deal. Because of the fact that these items will be available in a shop and not be limited means that they wont inflate. Yes the first few days many people would probably sell them for more than normal on the MP but after a while you'll notice that quite a few people will have access to these items and the prices would eventually drop.

The other thing is that, we aren't being forced to buy these items. The same way others don't spend their "Cash" on MCs, instead they quest, sell art work, sell their own items, get donated to, all in all earn them.

If you spent less time complaining and earning gold you'd probably be able to buy or trade these items with other users.

Bottom line is that: We aren't being forced to buy them!!

I don't understand why some people can't understand this. Also no one is FORCING anyone to pay anything. They are asking for help from the users and giving the users something in return for that help. I see no problem with it.

We don't have to pay for the games, we don't have to pay for towns or the forums, we don't have to pay for cinema. We don't have to pay for any of the features, nor do we have to pay to be on the site.

There for, Gaia is still free.

I think part of the problem is that the items have, for many people, become what Gaia is about and that's just not it.

You do not need items to enjoy gaia, which is why I stand by the belief that Gaia is still a 100% free site.

To add onto Leena's post, these items will be available to majority of the users through the MP and through Trade. It's just like the MCs not everyone will spend cash on them but will attain them through means of questing.

OK I understand where you are coming from here but still to keep certain features out of reach of some users when under the guise of a 'free' site is false advertising. If gaia removed the things which claim it to be completely free I would be sympathetic.

Items are a huge part of gaia, they contibute to social status and ultimately how others treat you in the forums (to an extent) A lot of why people stay here and don't move on to smaller more coherent forums seems to be the allure of the items, which as previously stated puts well off or older users on a higher stead than those without access to cash.

I realise this point extends to monthly collectibles, but its just the larger scale of the shop which is putting me off.

First, like Dr_Phluffy pointed out and I say in my main post, These items will still be obtainable through the marketplace.

They will be sellable, giftable and tradeable.

Second, Everything you just said about items, also applies to real life.

If you have a lot of money, your better than someone.

If your pretty or handsome, your better than someone.

It's horrible that the world works like that and I myself put no stock into it.

Items are really NOT that big a deal. Someone should not be seen as better then someone because they have older pixels. I certainly wouldn't want someone saying I'm elite just because I have a devil tail.

Third, you really can't get a more coherent, elitism filled form then the GCD.
