Now that the Halloween hype has calmed down I shall be bring this thread back up ^^
Jakobo? I missed it?
No, I PMed him some questions and he answered them.

Their on the front page ^^
I always kept it in mind that I'm helping the site whenever I go and buy myself a cash card. It's still donation, considering the facts from Lanzer. It just proves that I'm not really spending my money on pixels, but really just helping out. That makes me feel a little better about it too.
For anyone concerned about Cash Shop items being available for a limited amount of time...

Might I point out that cash stores on other websites (Neopets, for example) have items that expire. You buy an item, but you can only equip it for X number of days before you have to buy it again.

So, when Gaia says that some Cash Shop items will be available for a certain amount of time before being replaced with new items, they are essentially ensuring that people will continue to buy from the Cash Shop, and I see nothing wrong with that.

I would rather keep an item I bought forever, than have to buy it again every month...

In essence, Gaia could have really screwed us over in order to make even more money, but they didn't...

(Though, in all likelyhood, I doubt the Cash Shop would have been as successful if the items expired...)
I agree with both of your points =^.^=

haha, I went to reply to this thread and it took me to the store landing page xd lol@misclicking

Anyway, Leena, I heart this thread. I tried to make a thread like this, to thank the admins for everything they've done, but... it kind of died >>;;

I remember when Gaia was new- MCs were exciting, and I looked forward to buying them. I didn't really look at it as donating. I got sad when I didn't like something. Now, though, if I don't like it, I still love it, because I know it was a gift to us, and... well, you can see the beauty of the item and know that it took someone a very long time to make it that way.

There's evidence all around Gaia that reflects the fact that the staff does listen to us. It's silly to assume otherwise. When they changed our names, they noticed how unhappy we were, so they decided to give us spaces back. That's just one example.

The Gaia Staff makes me smile smile
Or how many people were upset about the word filter, they changed that too.

I think it's ridiculous for people to assume that this site can get by on just the monthly collectible donations! I mean, they're charging $2.50 for a MC, and even if 10,000 people bought one every month, they still wouldn't cover the costs involved in running a community this big!

Look at World of Warcraft, they charge $15 a month, which is huge, they rake in millions upon millions each month, yet they still can't support the demand for servers.

It's naive of people to think that running gaia doesn't cost a lot of money. The cash cards are a great way to increase their revenue and further more, we get the benefits. Now if we really want a 10,000 gold item, but know we won't have the time to bump and grind to get the G for it, we can spend a paltry amount of real money, get some Gaia Cash, get our item and keep the site running as well as it does!

Bravo to the staff at gaia who are trying their hardest to come up with new and innovative ways to keep this place afloat!

Boo to all those nubits who are complaining about it. Remember, in a capitalist society, it's money that makes things happen!

It's the goal of many of us users to make you guys smile heart

We unfortunately get drowned out a lot of times though ><;
Yep. Just like the offline world, it's the vocal minority of nutcases that screech the loudest and make everyone else look bad.

BTW, spork, thanks for turning me into a vampire at the beginning of the event. heart I got to turn my husband.

THANK YOU! I agree 10000000000% Most people don't realize how much money gose into running a site like this.It's not like your home made websites powered by AOL or Bravenet and the like. It take lots of time,people and yes money and the money has to come from somewhere since we don't pay for the site. Actually the cash shops allot better then what most sites have, ie. Zantarni and many others who don't let you trade cash bought items or something like that. At least even those who can't by things with real money just have to get enough gold to buy them in the marketplace...

The quote from Lanzer in the OP answered something I've been wonderin' 'bout for a while now:
thank you Leena_Rasui...

It'd be nice if more (dis-satisfied to some extend) users spend some time readin' this thread (mainly the first post). This info helps to understand better.

Thank you ^.^

I did a lot of digging to try and put together an informative post and I'm hoping to add more information as more questions pop up ^.^
