Welcome to Gaia! ::

congratulations
this is nothing I haven't seen
but it was more wordy
and somehow more wrong as a result

You, like too many oldbies, seem under the assumption that gaia has and will always be catering to a single audience
It's an easy mindset to keep in the GCD where we treat the ******** in rally/VH as if they were the minority and nostalgia flows like sewage

But the sad truth is while the majority has changed significantly ,the minority has near always been those that refuse to just casually play along
The people that still mourn the failures like zOMG
The people's whose only enjoyment in this site seems to come from throwing their joindate and old stories around

It's a bad thing to assume what you've read is the majority's voice
This being an entertainment site, many people having fun don't really feel obligated to constantly thank the staff for doing their job
It's only when something doesn't meet their expectations when gaians really speak out

we're also in a dawning creative era for the internet
people who just casually checked their facebooks a few years ago are embracing sites like instagram and tumblr
customization and creativity are in demand
gaia doesn't really have to do anything but advertise well/repeat its past successes and it can grow substantially
With its inventory alone it's already well ahead of its competitors

so yeah
moreso than the site dying
I think places like the GCD are dying
and to be honest it's about damn time

I wouldn't say its dying, per se, but it is A LOT less active than it was 3-5 years ago. The perfect example of that is the CB. Threads move to the 3rd page after about 30 seconds (when its fast) now, a few years back it was faster than that at its slowest time.

It makes me sad to see Gaia like this, I've been around since '04 but things change and people grow. It'll be a sad day for many when it finally does shut down.

The site has not really had a head that was as interactive with the users since Lanzer stepped back. The last two guys before the current were...odd. They had accounts, but I think that was an afterthought. And posted very little, if at all.

The new guy, we've never even seen a 'hello' from.
The current CEO knows "little to nothing" about what goes on here. For a small company like Gaia, I find that sad.

You and many other may not be aware of this, so i'll just throw this out there, but the CEO doesn't manage Gaia Online. He knows little to nothing about what goes on for Gaia other than if we are meeting targets. His job is not to run Gaia Online but the business Gaia Interactive.
That is just plain sad.

Honestly, What is Gaia interactive at this point BUT Gaia online? Every Game venture they have going has shut down, hasn't it?

Monster Galaxy and Soul Crash are still doing pretty well.

Their MAU and DAU are actually probably larger than Gaia Online's

MG has a MAU of 1 million users. Gaia Online's MAU? ~200k (US only though..maybe add in another 100k for international or something...still lower than Soul Crash's 500k MAU)

That only tells you how many people open those games to play them. It doesn't tell you how much money is being made off of those games. I'm betting it isn't much, based on the lack of interest in updating/maintaining them and the fact that Gaia has pretty much abandoned social games as a source of revenue.

surprisingly HoC actually experienced an increase in MAU up to around 70k recently but their DAU took a dive from ~3k to 1k as well, so....wonder what's going on with that.

The thought that gaia might be dying crossed my mind too,
when I learned of the halo being in the sale.
(Sort of like, let's take what we can get before we kick the bucket type of thing.)

I don't know for sure if that is gaia's state and if it will croak soon, but I'm 100% sure it would be a sad day if it does emo

You, like too many oldbies, seem under the assumption that gaia has and will always be catering to a single audience
It's an easy mindset to keep in the GCD where we treat the ******** in rally/VH as if they were the minority and nostalgia flows like sewage

Seems more like they're addressing the fact that the inflexible ones are having a hard time understanding why the site isn't as inflexible as they are. The word "dying " really doesn't belong in the discussion.

I guess. I was metaphorically connecting it with the title. Gaia is dying according to one faction's point of view.

I would post it there, but I am trying to cause less butthurt in others these days. whee

Devout Friend

I'm an oldbie myself, and I've noticed a decline in users as well, despite what the newbies think. Gaia was way more active back in the day. A lot of the newer members would be surprised if they went back in time to 03-04 and saw what it was like back then. Yeah there were a lot of bots, but those bots were not what made the threads pop. You could walk away from a single thread for a minute and come back to a good 30+ pages to catch up to. (Slightly exaggerated but not by much). Though back then all we had were chat forums and the arenas. There was not a Towns, or Rally or any games for that matter. It was all about the threads.

So partially I also worry about Gaia slowly losing it's members, but I do keep in mind that there are not only forums now. Gaia also has towns, rally, fishing, games, etc. Even then though, I still can see, and anyone who has been around for a while and has closely monitored Gaia over the years, can easily see that the number of people on Gaia now is far below what it used to be. Keep this in mind when you start trying to bagger the old farts on here. We are not as "paranoid" as you might think. Though, I cannot say I'll go around making threads like this. smile I would though ban together with fellow gaians to help support Gaia and keep it alive if I had to. So hopefully Gaia is not above asking its members for support if need be. 3nodding

Even still, whatever happens, i'll support gaia till the end. I love this place. It has been a second home to me for 9 years of my life. heart

Man, I feel like everyone's crying apocalypse like that 2012 shtick. I honestly don't feel like gaia's gonna end in 2 or 3 years. yeah, the userbase has gone down, but that doesn't mean that it's dying. People just get bored of stuff. We still get new members, though I don't see gaia ads as many places as I used to, so it's not as many as we could get.

I don't feel like gaia has started to die, I just feel like we're hitting a slow period that can easily be redeemed without issue. We just need to see the development team put back on zOMG! with user feedback implemented while work on monetizing it is put into the works, a better arena system as the current one is glitched beyond belief, and more transparency on corporate processes.
