Hey everyone!

There seems to be some community confusion about whether or not threads with CI lists are allowed in the GCD forum or not. We wanted to take a moment to clarify the rules about this as we don't want any further confusion!

Just so we are all on the same page, threads about the latest CI which provide lists of items are allowed in the GCD as long as there is discussion about the CI, what people like about it, dislike about it, how it might work with other items, etc. This actually has been a long standing rule, but we have tweaked it to read as follows so it is more clear:
Quote:

Are Chance Item (CI) Lists allowed?

Yes. User lists created to track what items come out of the latest CI are allowed as it is often an ongoing community event that produces quite a lot of interest. However these topics must present a discussion about the CI in it's first post - it cannot just be an item list with no discussion. The conversation in the thread should be about the CI - what people like, don't like, other items it might work well with, etc. Trading/selling the items from the CI in said thread is not allowed and belongs in the Exchange.

We've also tweaked the section on Event Guides and Other Resources to read:
Quote:
Threads that are meant to describe how to play an event, game, or simply tell people how to do something on Gaia belong in the Gaia Guides & Resources subforum as these threads do not actually promote discussion. This includes lists for items from the events.

Just so you all know, these threads are well-loved by most of the GCD community, and they also really help those of us in office easily be able to spot user item requests and discussions, issues with an item, an item's impact on the community, etc.

Anyway, we hope this rule, and why such threads are allowed, are now more clear for everyone. If you have any questions about this, please post in here let me know! I'll be happy to answer your questions as best I can! biggrin

Here's a question.

This has been in the sticky for a while, correct?

So when I do as we're supposed to, and report a list thread with no discussion in the opening post, why am I told that it didn't matter, because there was discussion in the thread, If this were the case, I could have a discussion in any of the master lists, and ask the threads to be moved to the GCD.

You know that's not right.

If the rule applies to one list maker, it needs to apply to all. Not a mod's discretion.

I remember someone made a fanthread for a specific item type (Worst Mistake and Mistake) and there was discussion in the thread and discussion points in the OP, but the fanthread got moved to CB because it was a fanthread for an item rather than an NPC (although IMO the Mistake is totally a character on his/her own....her....i think it's a her....although I think she's better as an "it"...).

Are we allowed to have fanthreads for specific items in the GCD as long as there's discussion in it/discussion offered in the OP? Sometimes these items are characters or can be taken as characters (e.g. the Mistake as a character even though it's only presence on Gaia is as an item), and we can have fanthreads for Gaia's NPCs...

heh heh. Because this is the GCD and we tend to discuss, even if a post has nothing but this as an OP:
discuss: new crystal box item [insert link here]

...people are going to discuss the heck out of the topic because that thread is where people are designated to/funneled into talking about X.

True, but you also know we've had threads moved that had far more discussion, were on topic, but the mod 'felt it fit better in the CB.'

Mrrrrrr...I just got done being irritated by this. Not letting it get to me twice in 24 hours. I have a Chat thread to write up for tonight.

your master lists tend to be pages and pages of lists at the beginning, The list threads for a specific CI tend to have discussion on the first page.I think the difference is on how quickly the discussion starts in a thread.

Hi, Sisky, I was wondering what was considered as "containing content" in regards to your sticky adjustment for CI Lists, especially when an OP cannot adequately moderate the thread to contain discussion and instead is full of pages of spam containing links to items found in said latest RIG. Do you have a certain percentage that you would consider to be adequate discussion per GCD rules?

I mean, when I see RIG threads and the last 10 pages seem to have most discussion out of a 70 page thread, it's kinda hard to see how the heck it belongs in the GCD when dicussion is on par with link spam. What about Stat Threads or Art Threads? I have seen OPs say "oh hey you should discuss something" but most of the posts contain lists of items found or art found and not actual discussion. Those would belong in GG&R, right?

The principle is still there , no matter where the discussion starts.

Please please PLEASE change the title.

FYI: Chance Item Item List Threads with Discussion are Allowed in GCD.

That's either redundant, or missing punctuation.

This question get asked often and its great to see a official Gaia topic on the subject.

Key sentence: "it cannot just be an item list with no discussion".

(( Also happy to see the official ruling on the 'Walkthough' threads. )) wink

That forum has nothing to do with item lists.

Taken directly from the Gaia Marketplace's Forum Rules & Guidelines:
Quote:

What is the point of this forum?

This is a forum where you can take additional offers for the items in your market/vend. Often users prefer gold for their items so they will sell it in the market/vend. However they may be additionally willing to accept items, threads dealing with taking offers like this go here instead of the main Exchange.

Note where that forum is placed, it's a subforum of the Exchange. It centralises around the advertisement and selling of items that are already in the Marketplace.

Rather confusing now that you mention the guide/walk-through.

Would posts related CI's art, its characters, and questions about how to play them, be considered a mark against the CI list thread too since the thread centralizes around the items themselves rather than the CI as a whole? I would understand a CI thread needing to get CB'd if it becomes a hangout spot for a certain amount of time (similar to NPC fan-threads), but that's a different story.
