The only practical application I can see is with art shops, and why pay when you can get plenty of free advertising from happy customers? Unless of course you're not that good.

Back when a friend of mine drew for gold, he'd make me siggies to advertise his work and gather referrals. I think that method was a bit effective. I also paid for art once and I got tons of referrals for that artists for years as well.

No, it's a silly idea. I get my sig, you get yours.
And it tells me that you're a sellout and I probably won't look at you with as much respect. Your sig is your dignity and personality.
If I put links of places I love in there or buttons, I think that's fine because I wasn't paid to do so.

When I have something in my etsy shop I advertise that. And sometimes I put my blog link on there when I'm in one of those spells where I'm actually updating/using it.
Right now I'm just using it to show off art and to see if I can get some more neighbors for playing Summer Springs.

Uh, I'd have to be paid a lot to sell out my signature space. I used to to 'advertise' that I was doing that, but that was just a joke.
I like being able to change it to whatever I want, whenever I want.

I use my sig mainly to promote LGBTS Love and to show it's natural. I don't really advertise guilds or artshops, especially since I can't draw for s**t.

I'm usually use my sig to advertise my Color Code thread and my quests. Then everyone once in awhile I throw something funny in there or let people have a chance to play with my inventory. I like seeing what people can some up with. I'd be willing to advertise for others but I probably wouldn't do it for gold >.>. I'm not a sell out.
