Welcome to Gaia! ::

I know it's a business technique and people will keep spending in hopes of getting the item? But when it's so ridiculously rare, people just stop buying because they KNOW their chances will be zero.

It works to a point, but Gaia flew past that point already. Twice.
The Undead Suitor
Wow thats just kinda....

Why would you even make a silly little item like that that rare?

There's just no logic behind it besides tricking us into buying more boxes.

Why make more items when you can make a small amount incredibly rare?

Your only pleasing the exchange pricks who only like items because no one else has them.

Why disserve a vocal fanbase that would be estatic with cheap items they love to please a couple of users that would be happy with a couple of pixels thrown together as long as you told them no one else had it?
You're right, they should make the items and accessories that the broader majority of people actually want the super rares.

That way instead of a small fanbase being unhappy because they can't get their item, which is a companion item which are notorious for going out of fashion quickly never to be used again, they can devastate the userbase at large with dangling the beautiful yet versatile new clothing heavy items in front of their faces but making them impossibly rare.

The Status Pets as I like to call them are actually the solution to a previous problem, "How do we make obscenely rare items that will continue to be a sought after prize, if not for the item itself then for profit, regardless of how many rigs are bought and opened because if the items prices aren't high nobody with buy the RIG, without depriving the majority of our userbase of the items they actually want?". By choosing to create one exalted companion pet to represent the "status prize" for each RIG they guarantee consistent purchases throughout the RIGs life without making the userbase baww so hard.

The part I find funny is that the userbase still bawws hard. Over an item that would become obscure and useless, probably before the RIG was even finished. Status Pets are simply Gaias way of saying "We understand the ridiculousness of creating beautifully pixelated items and then releasing them in such a way that almost no one can have them. Instead we bring you companion pets that no one uses for long anyway."

Would you guys prefer it if we had yet to find a single pale marionette?

I still want ramune though. dramallama

Please show me your Sales charts for RIGs past and present. Please show me any data whatsoever that supports this wild accusation.

That's completely ridiculous. No item should be THAT rare.

I agree. It's not fair to make so few. It's just Gaia's greed showing through. They know people will spend more money trying to get one. This one is stupid rare.

I second this.
This is NOT fair at all, Nobody can get this cat.
Unless they're going to do a mass release on Halloween or something, This is ridiculous, though I saw it coming. An items with ONLY ONE OF THEM in the game? That would bring in masses of money.

Actually when the Kitten Star was like 7-10 million the Exchangers were still selling it for 2-6 million because they know the worth of items...and if it's inflated they know that too [plus they're selling to other exchangers...they want the item to actually sell]. So I don't think I would blame them...I'd blame the MP inflaters who price something at 17 million cause they think they have the only one.

This.

You pretty much just described the dude who listed the grown-up Timmy doll under 999,999,999.
):< such a tease.

I've also given up on the cat items, they're all too freaking expensive.

This is absolutely ridiculous. I know Ethe said they were supposed to be rare, but they're so far don't even exist. I know I opened a few boxes just to get that cat first. This is just not right.

I know the person who put up the timmy doll, he's not trying to be mean, and he's also not the only one with it. But we told him to list it as uber expensive so we could see it, he hasn't taken it down, but I'm sure he knows it's not going to sell.

Also exchangers SELL by worth, just like you said. We're not the ones who inflate prices, the exchange is usually a good place to find deals.

That's beside the point, though.

If there are 50 times more apples in the MP than there are oranges, it's a safe bet there there are no where NEAR as many oranges in existence as there are apples.

There are not a lot of kitten stars being sold on the MP because there are not a lot of them period. As we know.

The amount of item in existence is going to affect its price greatly.

There could be a pile of DUNG as an item, but if there were only five in existence, their price wouldn't be 3k.

I know that the mp isn't the best place to buy rare items (not like I could ever afford one, anyway), but it's still a tease when the only listing of an item is worth beyond almost everyone's reach, even if the item itself isn't even that great.

Forgive me if I came out as a b***h... the cat's rarity really pissed me off. ;(

Yep! I don't really care about the marionette.

I'd rather have that dinky little cat. I don't want it because of it's status. I want it because I love cats and I want to display the kitty cuteness through my avatar. I can be completely honest with myself and say I'd use that that thing all of the time regardless of the price.

But now I am only thinking of myself, once again.

User ImageIf you can get an item in the exchange for much cheaper in the exchange, then why does it matter if the MP listings are through the roof?
There's rare and then there's ******** once-in-a-lifetime-blue-moon-hale-bopp-comet-bust-of-nefertiti rare. If no one has even gotten this cat yet then this thing is like, the most rare item on Gaia. I thought Kitten Star was just about as rare as a RIG item could be on Gaia, but I was fine with that. This black cat just seems to be too rare that it's ridiculous. What's the point of an item if there are only like, one or two in exsistance. Or worse...none gonk
As soon as I saw the cat in the promo art for this RIG, I said to myself "yeah, thats the rare item I'll have to saw off an arm and a leg for." I didn't think it would be THIS ******** rare though, this is ridiculous!

I hope they just forgot to code it in or something, because making a cute black cat THAT rare THIS close to Halloween and with a community of kitty cat lovers is just so wrong that I wish I had thought of it.
