A lot of people use them though? Just because you personally don't, doesn't make it true of all users. I'm wearing a few GS items right now actually. And I'm always wearing the cowboy scruff, a GS item.

I love gold shop items and I use them frequently. They can add a lot of finishing touches, but they can compose good outfits, too. :3 Sometimes, I like the simplicity, and I always look forward to the updates. The other day, I practically bought out CrosStitch; I usually drop lots of gold on GS updates.

I need gold shops because sometimes I don't want to look like a princess or sexy or sparkly or goth or super rich, I just want to wear a tank top and a t-shirt. The sad thing is they can't even make a decent tank top with updated pixelling and color, but make a hundred different sparkly dresses and thigh boots. Which are also nice, but sometimes I yearn for the good old basics.

on my avatar, i'm a little embarrassed to admit, pretty much only the sleeves and ring are gold shop. But I have other avatars that use gold items a lot more, I swear. lol

I consider them just as important as cash shop items since they provide items for everyone and I think its a shame that they don't get updated with more basic/everyday things on a wider scale. I think that's what they're missing a lot of right now. We get quite a handful of CS items but not that many simple gold alternatives to combat that. I would be happy to shop there even more if more user-suggested items were taken into consideration.

I wonder this, myself? gold shops don't benefit gaia in any way at all, financially. I don't understand why they're still being updated, and new gold shops are even being made, at this point. A lot of the items in there suck anyway, and time spent making all those gold shop items could be time spent for the artists to work on cash items, so that gaia can make money. Isn't that what they want? And isn't what gaians want better items?

The gold shops aren't benefiting anyone

Gold shops benefit non-cash spending users.
More users (and better quality users) benefit everyone, including cash spending users.
Cash spending users benefits Gaia.

Gaia isn't going to mean anything if it's just a few select people with money to burn, because there are ultimately other places they could spend their money. They spend the most money when there is an active and lively community to interact with - and to provide that, there needs to be something that non-cash spenders can do.

So the people who don't pay cash and the gold shops are worthless and there's no point having either on Gaia, by Gaia's viewpoint. And my own.

I see more people wearing cash shop items than gold shops, and it makes sense, seeing a s how the cash shops get updates more often, are beter pixeled, are more expensive and increases people's worth more. Gold shop items don't do any of that or have any of those qualities. Nor do they make Gaia money.

You completely misunderstood what I said.

The users of the website are the ones who interact with people. The users are the content of Gaia.
If 90% of users don't spend money in the cash shop, and they leave, then you've lost 90% of the content on your website.

Gaia has a very big interest in keeping their non-paying users around, because if they leave, then the paying users won't have a reason to stick around and continue to give money. Gaia seems to have lost sight of this (or the current management doesn't realize it) and so continuously ignoring the problems they are causing to non-paying members, from ignoring gold shops to rampant inflation, will ultimately hurt Gaia.

I am not a person to rely solely on cash items alone, because cash items do not include everything. I utilize the casino prize shop from time to time, and I also love Dernier*Cri and its items. I do not currently own any D*C items, but I have owned several in the past and wish to some day re-buy them.

Just because an avatar is wearing "mostly" cash shop items does not mean that gold shops should cease to exist.

why should gaia care about people who can't afford cash shop items, whether directly or indirectly through the MP?

If they can't support the site, and buy cash shop items out of the cash shop or through the PM which is glaringly obvious that's what gaia wants, since no matter what, cash items are still being sold in some way, then why should they update the gold shops which have 0 profit for them?

Why should they care? Maybe because when a user starts off on Gaia they look at the stuff they can afford. The Gold Shops. I imagine that these users don't suddenly throw money to get the CS. There has to be some sort of easing in before they could trap these new users into giving them money. Wouldn't you want to test out a site before giving money? I'm sure a majority of people can't just throw away money for the hell of it without knowing if it's worth their time. There are people who will, I don't doubt that...

If they stopped updated the Gold Shop I would imagine the tone of Gaia would change. It would no longer be about free to play but more of pay to have items. Which I'm sure the Staff does NOT want. They still want to appear to be free so they don't scare anyone off. There used to be periods of MONTHS before the Gold Shop was updated years ago. The fact that they update every other month is pretty nice. Plus, they can't just ignore the non-cash users. If all the non-cash users left won't the community suffer? A huge chuck of users on Gaia would stop posting and in response the community will suffer and eventually the people who pay cash won't go on because Gaia is slow and no one uses it anymore. The more people that use Gaia the more likely that the word goes out and they can rope more people into it and get THOSE people to pay.

gold items have gone from things to be accessorized to the accessories (if anything at all)
it's so weird that I'm surprised when pretty plain items aren't rig wins these days

but anyway
I think more variety in releases through sets being completed over several updates could change the perception of them a bit
along with a more current bone thrown every now and then in the form of a leg mod or what-have-you
some more multiposed items wouldn't hurt either

even under the argument that gold users/shops are parasitic
there is still a bit of stigma in being decked out in cash

it's a similar reason to why a number of major corporations are assisting mom&pop mainstreet businesses
even consumer whores need the idea of a breath of fresh air once in awhile

I wear gold shop items mixed in with my other items. I can't see my avatar not having at least one gold shop item on it at all times. Sometimes they are that extra umph to make an avatar. If you use them right they can look like you spent a ton on them.

We never used to get regular monthly gold shop updates. I suspect we only get them now because people asked.

I see a lot of people wearing them, and they're great for accessorizing.
