Nestled deep in a mountain region, far from the chaos and noise of urban society, is a small town. This small town is a frequent stop on trade routes throughout the region, and is widely known for its hospitable people, beautiful scenery, and culture-driven society.

This place is called Meadow Ridge, named after the acres of open meadows and hills that surround the town. Wild horses run free across the hills, and endless beauty permeates this peaceful valley. Soft rains and snow are common, and there are as many warm days as there are cool.

Meadow Ridge is a strange combination of urban and rural elements. There is a hospital, a grocery, a park, and all of the other commodities commonly found in a typical small town.

A few miles from Meadow Ridge is a large building. It is three floors high with a rectangular roof, and has a chimney, a large porch, and an even larger deck. The porch and deck are rosewood, an abundant type of wood in the area.

This is The Rosewood Saber Inn and Tavern. The first and last stop on the way to and coming away from Meadow Ridge. Here is where weary travelers and traders stop to rest their feet, spend a few nights, or perhaps just have a drink or two.

Please, come in and stay awhile...

The Porch
The porch spans the front of the building, and is comprised of wooden chairs and tables. A slanted roof overhangs the porch, preventing rain from wetting the wood and causing it to erode. There are several places to park bikes in front of the porch, and cars are allowed to park anywhere in the field around the establishment.

The Lounge
Upon entering through the door, visitors will be greeted by the lounge, the largest room in the inn. It essentially acts as a foyer, with two staircases arching up to a balcony, which leads to the second floor. A large, dark red ornate rug with swirling golden patterns sits on the floor, and burgundy rosewood couches and chairs decorated with golden plates are placed stylishly about the room. Between the two staircases is a large fireplace, a fire almost always crackling and warming the room with its glow. There are two doorways to the right and left of the lounge, the right leading to the bar, the left leading to the stage.

The Stage
The stage is to the left of the lounge, and consists of a large burgundy velvet curtain with a semi-circular wooden stage. A microphone is placed at the edge, with seats surrounding the stage. Behind the curtain are various instruments gathered by the owner of the years, as well as a DJ booth used for playing tracks. The music from the booth is broadcast all over the inn, and there is usually some classical or calming music playing.

The Bar
To the right of the lounge is the bar, a favorite room among patrons. A large rosewood bar juts from the wall in a large arc. Behind the bar is a large shelf of various drinks and ingredients. Tables and chairs are placed in various places around the windows looking out over the meadows. To the right of the bar is the door to the kitchen. The bar also doubles as the registration desk. Go there to receive a room.

The Kitchen
The kitchen is a simple cooking area of tile and stainless steel. There is a fridge, stove, microwave, and a rather impressive assortment of cooking tools.

The Rooms
The second and third floors are comprised of hallways of rooms. Rooms are simple, with a double bed, bedside table, dining table, two chairs, a closet, and a balcony.

The second floor of rooms is for guests, and the third floor of rooms is for employees.

The Deck
The deck is huge, and designed much like the porch. Wooden chairs and tables dot the deck, but there is no roof over the deck; rather, there are large umbrellas over each table. There are railing surrounding the structure with a small set of steps leading into a meadow, where a crisp, clean river runs. There is also a small platform that serves as a stage for outdoor gatherings.

The Basement
The basement is much smaller than the lounge, but much more modern. Two flatscreen televisions hang on the wall, and there is a self-serve bar in the corner, watched over by a Spindle standing watch 24/7. A large poker table with complete card and chip set, billiard tables, dart boards, and exercise hall are all located downstairs as well.

The Spindles
Spindles are the builders, cleaners, and bartenders of the Rosewood in the event that there are no real workers. They are faceless brass robots with spindly arms and legs. They can lift more than their body weight, but they cannot talk.

Andrew stood pensively on the porch, watching a few dark clouds passing by. He looked back to the inn, watching The Spindles work tirelessly, cleaning and putting the finishing touches on things.

Spindles, as strange as they were, were wonderful workers. They were thin brass automatons, running on gears and clockwork. They were faceless, showing no emotion. They simply worked and worked, able to lift things twice their size.

Now, as they worked, Andrew turned his attention to Meadow Ridge in the distance. It was a lovely place, a haven of solace and comfort.

At least for most people. Andrew wasn't included among those lucky individuals.

Still, Andrew did love this place. It had just been fixed up after a nasty fire destroyed most of it.

Sighing, he walked back inside, then lit the fireplace in the lounge.

Whatever happens now, it was out of his hands...

There's nothing left for me to lose except confusion.
I'm finished trying to tell myself this will go away.

Sighing softly, her intense red eyes gazed up at the establishment before her. Her heart would be pounding in nervousness if she had a pulse. In an attempt at a stable existence, Anabel had inquired about a job at this place: The Rosewood Saber Inn. It had just opened, so perhaps she had the chance to start anew. Meeting new people, perhaps she would have enough time to make a friend!

Alas, her hopes were not high. Once they found out what dark secret dwelled within, they always ran away. Shaking her head free of these thoughts, she took a deep breath. It was now or never.

The bell above the door rang out, announcing her arrival. Stepping inside, she looked around, seeing how empty it was at the moment. Eyes glowing within the darkness, she looked around, trying to find sign of anyone.

"Hello? Is anyone here?" Her voice echoed. Then again, that happened whenever she spoke, it was almost haunting. She always had found that appropriate, given her alter ego.

There's no one left to talk me down.
My feet are slipping...

The robotic man leaned against the bar, his gaze cast downward upon his metal-plated hands. He reached into his vest pocket, then pulled out his pipe. He always loved having a pipe between his teeth, even if it wasn't lit.

This one was deep mahogany with a gold metal body and bowl. Gears were engraved on the metal. He had gotten it custom made.

Now, it was between his teeth, and he adjusted his hat, an overhanging sense of depression clouding his insides.

Today marked the fifth month that his beloved left him. Every day, he awoke alone, and every day, he fought back the tears. He longed just to see her one more time, to know that she was safe. He loved her more than anything, even now, when he felt that she was no longer with him.

He was waiting for her. He would always be waiting for her...
