"It's small but yes there are rooms, feel free to take one." She said kindly, money was not a factor for her. Or she just wasn't used to using it, either way.

She looked at Curtis now. "No not a goat. I don't know the word.." She bit her lip as her eyes shifted to the floor, contemplating. "Here.." She said, taking a deep breath before moving around the counter. She moved a few chairs closer to their tables, giving her a bit of breadth. She closed her eyes and clasped her fingers together as if she was going to pray. Soon white strands of hair lifted on their own accord, her mumbling grew stranger and more intense.

To the naked eye it would appear a strong wind was blowing at Gilrin before her form was too bright to continue to look at. When the light died down and the two patrons would be able to view her again, the girl would be replaced. Instead a deep navy unicorn stood. Her body was dappled with flecks of silver that matched her horn, mane, and the tip of her long tail that resembled that of a lion or donkey. Incredibly black eyes seemed to suck all the light into their dark depths as she looked at the two. This was her true form and it was the first time she had shown anyone besides her kin.

"Not a goat? Well I know that, it was a joke, I meant-" He explained, shortly before the odd glowing disrupted his entire train of thought. A plate Curtis had in his hand fell to the ground and shattered and he had to take a step back. It was all too sudden, and he held his arms over his eyes, in complete bewilderment as to what was happening.

The finished product of the odd transformation left him even more confused. This entire time, he had no idea what to call Gilrin other than suspicions of an elf, but this was not something he had seen coming. "What-..." He stuttered. "Is that a unicorn?" Curtis asked, dazed, and looking to anyone else for verification. "Gilrin?" He cooed to see if he could get a response or see if she was capable of speech in her current form. The wolf leaned closer, almost crouching to get a closer look at the mythical animal.

Aged Shapeshifter

While everyone seemed to be watching the unicorn, something else seemed to be watching them. A presence could be felt by those prone to such things, a thickness of the air hovering just beyond one's periphery. But the weight of eyes was unmistakable.

Vee ate and listened, munching on something that hadn’t been cut up as finely as the other things in the omelet. It was some type of leaf that she didn’t too much care for so she sat the half she didn't eat to the side and continued. When Glirin started to change Vee put her eyes on the woman, the light having no affect on her at all as she watched the entire thing. So, she’s a horse? she thought, but in slight confusion as that wasn’t quite right. There was something about her that was a little more than a horse but Vee didn’t know what to call it. That is, until Curtis gave her a name. “Unicorn? What is a unicorn?” she curiously asked as she finished up the omelet. She wanted to go over inspect the creature that had taken Gilrin’s spot but she kept her distance just as she had with the creature outside.

All was good and well as Vee watched a dumbfounded Curtis and a horse, or unicorn, like Glirin until she felt the presence of something. The weight of eyes was unmistakable but she wasn’t getting a heat signature, or even a scent, from whatever it was. Smiling one moment and serious the next, the fun teenager disappeared from her as if a switch had been flipped; something much more professional taking its place. “What’s going on,“ she demand as she stood from her seat. The predator didn’t, at all, take kindly to the idea of being watched as if she were prey. She was the one who did the watching and never was it to be the other way around. The only thing she could think of was that she had wandered into some type of trap. Were Gilrin and Curtis in on it? Being the distraction while a third party came from out of nowhere and slaughtered the guests? Everyone in the town had seemed friendly but who was to say they weren’t all in on it. She cleared her mind of what ifs as her grey eyes darted to Curtis, Gilrin and looked around the room in an effort to find the third party.

Vee
“...got some bread, eggs, tomatoes, peppers and some fruit and veggies that are native to here... Mister Curtis got some bacon and some other type of meat. Don’t know what type of meat it is but it smells good too. We tried to get something for everyone.”

Gil
"How about this. Everyone who is hungry look through and see what you want. Kitchen is open to everyone.."

The kitchen? Free for all? She blinked, scratching at her chin, as her gaze turned towards the kitchen. Somehow, it didn't seem smart. After all, one of them could easily take something without paying. Not to mention getting their grubby hands all over the merchandise.

The woman looked down at her own hands. Well, oh well. Perhaps the people around the village were more trustworthy than the people in other places.

Remaining seated at the bar, she made herself a few sandwiches from the mystery meat Curtis had brought back. Then she'd sit back and scarf them down more quickly than she would've liked to. She hadn't noticed how hungry she was until then. And to think she nearly coughed it all up when Gilrin changed.

"You- You're a unicorn!" It was a shocked observation that was otherwise pointing out the obvious.

Damn. Never expected that.

The hairs on the back of her neck would raise as a subtle chill traveled down her spine. ...She wasn't paying attention enough to notice any cause of it though. So, as Vee stood up, she figured her question must have had something to do with the unicorn/Gilrin. "What?"

The blue creature tossed its bearded head in attempts to say 'yes' to the wolf.

Their combined shock caused her to dip her head a little, horn parallel with the floor. She only lifted again as Vee directed attention to the same feeling she had. Of course being a creature of prey sought after by man and beast, she was greatly sensitive to the gaze of a predator. Just as quickly as she had changed before, the same blinding light returned, tinged a bit more blue this time.

Reveled now was a panting Gilrin, looking a bit more frail than she had before. Her gray hued eyes were on the floor as if searching for a dropped coin, "Someone is watching us." She gasped, looking up to them after realizing just how mad that sounds. At least she was not alone.

Still in awe, he took a couple seconds to recover from the light again. But instead of further gaping and a barrage of questions that his curious mind was conjuring, he was upset by the apparent shift in atmosphere.

'What's going on?'

'Someone is watching us.'

Curtis felt the strange force but did not pay any mind to it before. If he acted on every strange instinct or ominous feeling, he'd be in much worse shape long ago. But when both women were reacting oddly to it- that others present in the room may have possibly be feeling the same thing- did induce a bit of paranoia. "What do you mean?" He asked, having a more dismissive tone than a worried one. As far as he was concerned, if he didn't see it or smell it, it wasn't there. Or at least that is what he was telling himself. "How do you know?"

Vee was standing a little ways from the others as she looked between the female patron and Gilrin; her head never moving as she let her eyes do the work. It really wasn’t needed as she had both in so called sight but it let them know where her aim was focused. Gilrin’s statement caused her to ease up a bit as she admitted to being watched. If she were in on it then she would have played dumb rather than owning up to it. “She’s right,” she stated to Curtis as she started to pace the room, still not liking it. “You don’t feel it? You should,” she told him in reply to his question as to how they knew. Most of the time she played dumb around others as she learned that beings don’t necessarily like that others can see beyond what they present. Because of the unseen force she let all deception fly out of the window. “How can you not feel the weight?” He was a predator, just like herself. Gilrin was no longer on her radar but she eyed Curtis in suspicion. Granted, she would try to give him the benefit of a doubt. It was possible that such instincts hadn’t been honed if he grew up not using them. As for herself, she was the very definition of predator; to the point that she would call everyone in the room prey. If one was sensitive enough they would be able to tell. It was the main reason she kept her distance from others; despite being able to act civil. Depending on how sensitive abilities ran they may even be able to tell that she had a certain reptilian quality about her. “You’re able to see without being seen, congratulations,” she said with a small smile. “But, since you’ve been figured out why not just make an appearance instead of spying on us,” she stated aloud to seemingly no one. If anything, Gilrin knew who she was talking to.

Here?

Her pale eyes met Gilrin's for a brief moment, blinking once. Twice. She swallowed the clump of bread and meat that had been sitting in her mouth, then turned to look outside. Her eyes shifted from window to window, expecting to find the perpetrator peering through one. The foreigner hadn't seen anyone else come in that day. She'd been in the tavern ever since Gilrin had opened it that morning. "Where are they then?" She muttered to herself.

Her lips tightening, she swallowed as she watched Vee demand to see the unknown stalker.

Was it possible that whoever was spying on them was the man she'd run into last night: the mage, the one who had sent her to the region the village was in?

Well, if he's here to apologize...

Nothing. No answers to the predator, or the prey standing a bit away from her.

"If the being had intentions of harming us, I'm sure that it wouldn't have waited this long. Probably just a passerby.." Gilrin offered this in hopes of coming everyone despite the fact the eerie feeling had not wavered. Still there had been plenty of opportunity for the voyeur to jump out and yell 'boo' or much worse.

"I feel you two are speaking to nothing. Yes, it feels..." He waved his hand, trying to summon the correct word. "Odd. Paranoid. For no righteous reason, too. And it's quite possible I just feel this way because you two drew attention to it. A mental thing." He tapped his head with a claw to accentuate his point. "Nothing to worry about. I don't hear anyone. And I don't see anyone. I don't smell anyone. Are you sure it wasn't just the..." He resorted to waving his arms about again. "Magics or such from Miss.Surprise over here." He tossed his head toward Gilrin, as if he had made a successful argument of the idea of magic spreading around in the air like dust. "We felt it around the same time."

Feh...

"I'm gonna have to agree with Curtis on this one", she said as she slumped back into her seat, her elbow coming to rest on the bar. "I'm not sure if it was only Gilrin's transformation that sparked that feeling - I don't think Gil would be spooked by her own magic - but no one's tried to attack us or anything yet. Coulda just been a passerby too. Either way, we're aware now so..." Her hands came to either side of her shoulders, open-palmed as she shrugged.

She tried to look as casual as she could, though there was still a certain tension in her muscles because of everything that had happened. All she knew, was that there was still that cool feeling in the air that magic, ki, spiritual energy...whatever they called it nowadays, caused. With traces of Gil's act still present, it was hard to pinpoint any differences in the haze.

"I guess, sooner or later they'll reveal themselves if they're still there."

Either arrogant or shy, she thought in response to not getting a response. As for intentions, she wasn’t quite sure she agreed with Gilrin on that. “An instant attack doesn’t mean no attack,” she stated plainly. “Intentions are a mystery.” She honestly didn’t know if what or whoever it was meant them harm or not. She simply didn’t like being watched in such a manner. As for the words from Curtis she knew that she wasn’t crazy...or paranoid, for that matter. She certainly didn't think it was a passerby, unless it was phantom of some sort, but he may have had a point with the magic as such things were still very unknown to her. Because of her ability, or inability according to some, her interactions with magic was very limited. It was really something she wasn’t able to speak on. When the female patron sided with Curtis she gave a soft grunt that said she still didn’t like it. Perhaps she was more alert because of her occupation but she would let it go while in front of them. “I still don’t know what a unicorn is,” she said in an attempt to change the subject as she made her way back to her seat. Once in front of her plate she picked up the half eaten leaf and held it up so that Curtis could see it. “This wasn’t too pleasant mister Curtis. Maybe if it had been chopped up like the rest of the ingredients.” After she felt he had the chance to see what she was talking about she ate the rest of the leaf anyway.

Gilrin felt all eyes on her and it made her quite uneasy which was apparent with the flush on her high cheeks.

"I wouldn't feel uneasy about my own transformation... It seems we are fine for now." She sighed heavily looking over at Vee. The predator had a point. As she relaxed and headed back to her stool, Gil sipped her now cool tea, allowing herself to relax a little.
