"It's very easy, Saorla. Just watch me!"
Two nearly identical figures stood just past the water's edge, though one lingered more in the shallower part than the other, whom had swam out deep enough that the water rose all the way up to her chest. Ruairi smiled and leaned back, letting her legs come up so that she floated right on the surface of the gentle waves. Her eyes slowly closed for a moment, her wild auburn curls spreading out over the surface of the water. "You merely have to control your breathing... It's that simple." One sky blue eye opened to study her sister, who still looked unsure.
"And it's fun, too~!" Ruairi was closing her eye again almost as soon as she'd opened it, laughing aloud as a particularly large wave lifted her high up before dipping her back down once it had past. Saorla had flitted right away before it could reach her and knock her over, though she laughed the whole time as well.
"What if I can't stay afloat? I don't want to go underwater!" Cautiously, the younger fae stepped back out into the ocean, wading in until she was waist-deep. She let herself slip down farther under the surface until it rose up to her chin, her own long hair swirling around her as it soaked up the water. Saorla knew she could try it, at least... Ruairi wouldn't tell her something that didn't work, right? Still being careful, the younger of the two let herself sink back, pulling her legs up so that she was completely parallel with the ocean's surface.
Okay... This wasn't so bad. And the water felt nice, as did the heated summer air that surrounded them. Saorla blew out her breath slowly and closed her eyes, trying to follow Ruairi's instructions on how to stay afloat. It worked for a few moments- until a large-ish wave rolled by. It felt pretty fun, getting lifted up into the air a little- it was sort of like a being on a roller coaster, but not as terrifying. But as soon as it moved past and Saorla dipped back down, she didn't stay on the surface. She just kept sinking.
She ended up submerging completely, holding her breath before she pushed back up to the surface. Ruairi was already laughing, standing back up straight as well. "You should have seen your face!" She teased, a wide, playful grin on her own face- the same face that they both shared. Saorla's own expression didn't mirror her sister's, though. She huffed indignantly while she blinked the salt water out of her eyes, brushing away the heavy strands of hair that stuck to her shoulders and neck. That so wasn't funny at all!
Okay, maybe it was. But Saorla was too stubborn to admit it- aloud or through the mental connection they shared.
"Hmph." Was the only reply she gave Ruairi, who merely grinned and went right back to floating. Saorla dragged herself back towards a shallower area of the water, choosing to stay there where she knew she could escape quickly enough if a large wave came back around.
