The creature of only vaguely humanoid appearance, covered in a motley coat of mixed black fur and feathers, with ears almost humorously large on its head and eyes so pale grey they nearly glowed against the background of his otherwise dark features, had taken up part time residence in the now abandoned two-legger abode. It spent the vast majority of its time outside, but frequently enough could be found sneaking about inside, though usually there was little or no trace left behind to tell of its visits. Cobwebs and dust held no attention for the creature and went undisturbed. It just so happened that today, of all days, the creature had sought shelter indoors from a biting wind that just made keeping warm more difficult than the creature liked.

It was exploring behind the bar when it noticed a subtle shift in the ambient light, in the hue of the colors around the room. Wary, but curious, the creature pulled itself up on its hind-feet with the use of its very hand-like five-fingered (no thumbs) fore-paws on the counter. Ears flipped back, laying flat against its skull, and every hair and feather flattened as tight back against its body as possible, the creature watched. It watched, peaking over the bar, mesmerized by the light, as a fine tingling sensation began in its talons and 'fingers.' Its ears began to buzz and little spots started to pop in and out of the creatures vision. Then there was a sound! A two legger sound! With the quiet click of claws, and only slightly louder clink of the metal rings around its 'wrists,' the creature dropped back down behind the bar. Uncertain how to proceed, the creature crept to the end of the bar to peer over at the two-legger from a less conspicuous position.

((Mmmm... new character, just 'cause!))

Keldara lazily counted the coppers in her coinpurse once more. Adventuring was definitely not the get-rich quick scheme she had hoped it would be... and waiting for a new lead on a job that might pay well was the worst. A day or two in this tavern, then a day or two in the next... She couldn't even enjoy a few drinks without cutting too much into her profits. Yet, other adventures she saw seemed to be doing just fine, with all their trinkets and absurd spending habits... She pulled a rather thick book from her pack entitled 'The Art of Evocation by Cael'ashk' and flipped through it's pages. Maybe if she studied more...

"Excuse me, ma'am..."
She blinked, rubbing her eyes and wiped her mouth. Damnit, she fell asleep again? She closed the book in a hurry before looking up at the stranger whom had addressed her. "Sorry, 'sit closing time already?"
"Ah, no... I just couldn't help but notice what you were reading... You're a wizard, right?"
"Uh, more or less." Well, sorceress to be precise... "What do you need?" She hoped for a job, but more than likely the woman just wanted to show her a damned simple magic trick or something...
"Help finding my friend."
The woman tossed a small pouch onto the table. Keldara opened it to see the sparkle of gold. "Alright, I'm listening..."

She was on the road again. At least this job payed a little up front... and all she had to do was find and rescue some half-elf girl? That didn't sound to shabby, assuming her target was still alive. Her employer would pay for the body though, if that was all she found. The main difficulty though... Where to even begin? The cottage that the woman spoke of was the only real lead, so she headed there, but if this was a dead end...? At least she had a little coin up front. Could be worse. Keldara approached the spooky looking old cottage. It didn't appear to be occupied, but still, she knocked before letting herself in. "Hello?" Her call seemed to be answered by the chattering of skulls. Creepy. "Anyone here?" She glanced around the room, seeing only cobwebs and dust.

Otherworldly Garbage

Russel scanned the bar once more, only to notice a familiar sight---that of the Tryan creature. Caring not to disturb the large, canine-sized beast that would surely maul him had he the chance, he warily made his way to the bar, fetching some tea--he had had enough liqueur in Hades--before his shrewd amber eyes made their sights elsewhere, on an attractive red head. As a straight man, well, he couldn't help but admire her appearance, but as one who tried to be a gentleman whenever possible, he put his medula ablangada aside, meeting her eyes before addressing her. "Hello," the dark magician addressed her, "may I help you?" Then, his memory jogged him once more. That's right, that strange quadruped seemed to like liqueur, bizarrely enough. In a matter of moments, a large, wooden bowl was set in the middle of the room with whiskey.
The creature ducked his head and skittered well out of the way of the magic-er who's proximity made his skin crawl and toes tingle in an entirely unpleasant way. Temporarily distracted, he looked up at the newcomer. Another two-legger. Of course. That shouldn't surprise him in the least. He, however, made no attempt whatsoever to respond to her greeting, and certainly not in words. He was a creature after all, human language was rather beyond him. He lurked in the shadows, steering clear of the two that he considered invaders, to a certain extent. It had been ages, and he was the only one here that whole time! What did they think they were doing here? Just waltzing in as though they owned the place! Well this was his territory! Except it was only borrowed and he knew it. This was his territory but it was on two-legger land in a two-legger building, so it wasn't really his at all. That was more than a little disappointing. But he kept his complaints to himself and just tried to be boring. Oh!.... but that was a strong temptation to show himself, wasn't it?

Tryan sat crouched and watched the two humans and the bowl of whiskey, trying to assess the situation. Then, slowly, hesitantly, he moved forward. Giving them a wide berth, as usual, he approached the whiskey and inspected it closely. Only after convincing himself that it was safe did he happily partake of his favorite snack.

"Ah, I hope so..." Even as she responded to the inquiry, it was clear her attention was elsewhere - assessing the strange creature lurking on the edge of the shadows. She was frozen in place as the winged beast seemed to snarl at her. If she moved, she was afraid it might decide that was a sign of aggression and attack. Then the man set a large bowl of whiskey in the middle of the room and the creature seemed to drop it's hostile demeanor as it approached the bowl. Only when the quadruped was happily engorging himself in a bowl full of alcohol did she deem it safe enough to cross the rest of the room to reach the bar. "Er, that your... dog?" She couldn't think of a better word to describe the beast that most definitely was not any breed of dog she had ever seen.

After a moment of continuing to observe the creature, she turned her attention back to the man that had greeted her, recalling her own purpose for being here. "I'm looking for a missing person... Was told this would be a good place to start..." She couldn't really see why. Unless the girl was hidden, locked in a basement somewhere in this creepy old cottage. That probably wasn't the case though. Too easy. "A half-elf by the name of Meyrin. Sweet young girl..." She pulled out a photograph and set it on the counter. By the looks of it, Meyrin and Keldara might have been related, but maybe that was just because of the hair. The girl pictured was also a red-head, but it was cut almost boyishly short. She had slightly pointed ears, the brightest smile, and beautiful, crimson eyes. For Bernadette was written in neat cursive on the back of the photo. "Ever see her before?"

"Meyrin?" Russel repeated the name aloud, his English accent as strong as ever. As he began moving away his long, barely-brown locks from his complexion, before looking once more at the complexion in the photo, he found himself baffled at the thought of such a bizarre creature as a pet "Oh, and that creature isn't a pet, merely a resident into whom I've run once before......" Now, however, the dark magician found himslef speaking more openly than he might otherwise. "As per your friend, well, I do practice magicks--dark magicks, mind you, but magicks all the same....." Why was he offering succor free of charge? Granted, he did try to be a gentleman--partially in recompense for the ubiquitous cloud of guilt, regret, what have you.

"Aye, I'm told she was close friends with the trio that owns this establishment..." Judging by the looks of things though, if there were people who took care of the inn, they hadn't been around for some time. Keldara decided to take a seat at the bar, as it was clear he couldn't just point and send her on her way. "That... creature... is a resident?" She asked rhetorically, obviously baffled. Inns and taverns she knew of weren't likely to allow even the most tame and/or smallest pets anywhere but the stables. But a resident? "Erm, it doesn't talk, does it?" She had to ask.

Turning away from the distraction, she was happy to find that this gentleman was quick to get to the point. Keldara was a fairly skilled practitioner of the arcane herself (though, she wouldn't be so quick to classify any spells as dark or light.) However, she had never really cared much to study up on Divination. "So, you might be able to scry out something useful?" She hoped he wouldn't need too much more information on the half-elf girl, as she didn't know Meyrin herself. It was just another job to her. "If you can help me find her, I'll split the thousand gold reward with you." She chose not to tell him that a thousand had merely been the down payment for her service - the woman who had given her the job had promised four more should she succeed.

User Image"Not that I know of, though I believe the creature has a name, strangely enough..." Russel nonchalantly returned--for he had seen stranger things, this being at the farther end of the spectrum, his amber gaze meeting hers, "Tr-Tra-no, Trya- something to that effect." Given, that bit of information was of no pragmatic interest to this....er, detective or bounty hunter's, whichever she was---enquiries, but as long as they were on the subject, afterall, no? Realising the mawing thirst and hunger at his throat, he silently slithered to the back of the counter, where the teapot sat patiently, almost meditating to the barely-audible white noise of the refrigerator. "Care for some tea, as well as a snack?" he politely asked of her, awaiting a response before he decided on which loose leaf tea to utilise. Until then, though, he had other, more pressing concerns, namely this stranger's intentions. "Before I do offer my help, what do you plan to do with this Meyrin? If you merely mean to find her, or even maybe bring her to some sort justice, you can count me in. If not, well," his brow raised, a short sigh escaping his dry lips as he explained, "not only can I not offer any help, but I'll not be able to just sit idly by, if you do intend her unwarranted harm...nothing personal, of course, but my conscience would eat away at me." It should be added that the dark magician didn't exactly expect the latter of this newcomer, but he didn't exactly think the best of human, or demonic, or sentient, for that matter, nature.

Right, so the creature would simply have to be called 'Mr. T' for the time being, lest it could somehow inform her of it's name. She leaned on the counter, watching the magician as he sought out the tea kettle. "Speaking of names, it seems we have skipped right over that part of meeting one another." Choosing to remain enigmatic for the time being, Keldara would let him offer up his name first. Knowing another's name held a surprising amount of power where magic was concerned. "Oh, and yes, tea would be fantastic."

So, a dark magician with a conscience? She smiled at the thought. "I'll be completely honest with you - my only motive is the gold I was offered to find her." A woman has to have her luxuries every now and then. "Though, maybe it might help to know that the woman who hired me had nothing but kind words for 'this Meyrin'" she echoed his verbiage. "I have no doubt in my mind that she would be completely distraught should her friend come to harm, and so I have no intentions to let that happen. Might hurt her desire to pay up." Keldara's motives might not be as pure as some might like, but this was a job to her after all. One day it's escort a caravan, the next she may find herself hunting a bounty, then there's days like today when it's all about rescuing some damsel in distress. She usually liked to have more information beforehand, but five thousand gold was a pretty penny.
