After a few days, Eirian was back on her feet and the cast came off. Her bones set in perfectly, and had no remaining scars. She still had some nightmares which caused her night frights and Arianna had to console the whimpering teenager in the middle of the night. Sam was still recovering, not as lucky as Eirian, his healing not working as fast as hers, though in all fairness, his injuries had been worse. However, he was still able to walk around and didn't need to be fussed over too much. He would check his wounds himself and only ask for help in changing the dressings around his torso. He did have a slight fever for a night, an infection due to his injuries, but his body fought it off quickly. Eirian sat with him that night, taking care of him, feeling very guilty about it.
Aristar had taken Silver's words to heart and had started looking into releasing Jade's soul. He had a feeling she would come back to life on her own anyway. The dead didn't always stayed dead, but he couldn't refute the fact the death knew exactly when one was meant to expire, and how long should one stay dead. But one's soul is eternal, and could eventually be reborn into another body. Jade did have unfinished sadhana and she had a debt to fulfill as well. He was almost positive she would reincarnate.
He sighed and went to see her again. She was in better control of herself and he had taken the chains off her. However, the cell's spell was still active and it kept her trapped in there. She still had her shackles, that symbolized her status as his slave, so he could control her if she became unruly again.
"Aristar, please let me see my children..." she pleaded
"I can't do that. We don't know if you could attack them...it's just not safe, Jade" he admonished her gently as if she was a confused child
Jade knelt down at his feet and begged him, with her face on the ground. Aristar sighed again and knelt down, gathering in her in his arms to comfort her. Jade whispered "Forgive me..." and i a flash, bit into his neck. Aristar gasped in surprise, the pain was excruciating, while she sucked on his blood. Aristar felt his body go numb and paralyzed, and she let go off him. She retched, his blood was poison to her, but she didn't care. She knew he would kill her after this and that's what she wanted anyway. She didn't deserve to live. But first, she just wanted to be free to see her children one last time. The spell read the blood of Aristar in her body and didn't stop her from
leaving.
She arrived to the inn through a portal. She was in the outside of the Inn. The twins were playing by the pond, Irina was laying on a blanket, sunbathing with her eyes closed. Sam was also laying down on a blanket, resting and dozing off. Eirian was doing some yoga with Arianna close by. Everyone seemed relaxed.
Eirian felt someone watching them for afar, and was the first to notice her.
"Mom" she said as she stood up, her voice a little nervous.
Arianna called out to the twins and told them to stay with Sam and Irina. Sam and Irina sitting up on their blankets, grabbing onto a child each, to make sure to bring them in quickly to safety if anything happened.
"Eirian...I am sorry..." Jade said as she put her hands up, and walked slowly towards her
Eirian moved closer to Arianna, and looked at her with a bit of fear. She noticed some blood on her clothes and said "What did you do?" and instantly thought of Aristar "Where is Aristar?"
"He's...indisposed..." she said "But he'll come in a little while, I am sure....I just wanted to see you and the babies...I miss you all..."
"Aunt Jade. Stay back. You are not being yourself..." Arianna said putting herself in front of Eirian "I don't think it's a good idea for you to be here at this time..."
"Mother?" Jumana whispered as she saw the specter like Jade moving closer to Eirian. That's not how she remembered her. Argene was a little frightened of the changes he noticed on Jade but knew it was their mother. It was her energy signature, no doubt about it.
Jade noticed Jumana and Argene looking at her, with doubt and a little fear. It broke her heart to see them look at her like that. She felt her stomach hurt and she doubled over, retching blood, her body hurting. She wanted the pain to stop, the anger to fade. She started to grow confused again. The twins slipped away from Sam and Irina, and ran to her. She hugged them, inhaled their scents, trembling as she held them. She felt cold.
"Mother, are you ok?" Jumana said, her voice full of concern, Argene simply hugged her tight, he had a feeling this was the last time they would see her,
"I am now, baby girl. I love you and your brother very much, don't you ever forget that. But you have to get back to the others...you two be good, Ok?" she said softly, the twins didn't want to let go off her, they had so many questions. But could sense they needed to obey her. Irina and Sam took them inside, where it was safer for them.
As soon as they were inside, Jade shakily stood up and said "I came to say goodbye, and ask you to forgive me Eirian. I would have never hurt you of my own accord. Please, believe me..."
Jade felt another wave of nausea and pain, and turned around gasping, feeling Aristar regaining control of his body through her bond with him. The pain was unbearable, his blood was killing her. She screamed as she felt a blinding pain in her heart and suddenly, she lost control of herself again. Memories of her blood lust came to her. She looked at Arianna and Eirian with red empty eyes.
Eirian knew that look very well. It was the same look she herself had when the blood lust was too hard to deal with.
"Mother...don't let it control you..." Eirian said from behind Arianna
"Eirian, go inside..." Arianna warned her
"No! She needs help! " Eirian said firmly
Jade was going to lunge at them when Aristar opened up a portal and came behind her, producing some chains from his hands that linked themselves onto Jade's shackles. Jade couldn't move and writhed in pain, she was dying.
"Eirian, go inside..."Aristar said
"NO! I won't leave her like this! She needs help Aristar!" Eirian said reaching out for her, but Arianna was restraining her.
"She needs to rest, Eirian. One day you'll know everything about your mother's life. She has dealt with a lot. Her soul needs to rest..." He said to her, keeping Jade subdued.
"Please...don't take her away from me...us...please..."Eirian pleaded
"You know it's the right thing to do. Besides, she attacked me. When she swore servitude, she accepted a blood oath that if she ever attacked her master, the punishment would be death. I cannot undo what she accepted...." Aristar said
Eirian knew he was telling the truth, and Silver had been right, she was not ready to see her mother die. But she had to be strong to accept this. It was the way of things. Jade was not meant to be live as such.
"Then take her pain...it's not fair for her to go like this..." Eirian said almost crying
Aristar broke the shackle around Jade's neck, breaking the seal that kept her alive. Jade relaxed immediately. She regained her lucidity again, but her body rejecting her soul.
Eirian and Arianna knelt by her, holding her hand. Jade smiled at them weakly and whispered "I am sorry. I never wished to cause you pain..."
"Mom..." Eirian whispered, her voice trembling
"It's all right, Eirian. Everything will be fine..." Jade said as her life was slipping away
She looked at Aristar and tried to say something to him, but couldn't. Aristar nodded at her, a silent agreement in between them. Jade shuddered and closed her eyes, finally resting.
"I will bury her and take care of the rest. Do not tell the twins what happened. At least not yet...." Aristar said
"Shut up! I don't want to talk to you right now, nor see you for a long time!" She spat as she wiped her tears off, and went inside. Arianna followed after her.
Aristar gathered Jade's lifeless body in his arms and held her, on the fresh grass of the gardens and whispered to her "You better find your way back...your children need you..."
