- A quaint little cafe sits on the corner of two streets in Barton Town. Its a simple enough building, the outside matching most of the surrounding boutiques and shop designs in the area. The most notable difference is its choice in signage. While the vast majority of the shops had upgraded to lit up lights or neons, this shop had a rather shabby looking wooden sign.
It is a rather plain sign, yet appealing with simple curves as it hangs over the door. It is made of wood that has been stained a rich mahogany color with a boarder of a deep russet color that is tinted in gold. The sign looks a bit weathered; perhaps it had been put away for a while before it finally got to see the light of day. But in all its simplicity, it stands out more than the neon because it doesn't stand out at all. Upon close inspection, the sign is written with cursive writing 'Feather Quill Cafe'.
There is outside seating available, wrought iron chairs with cushions and matching tables, with an umbrella of a dark red color. The entire cafe theme is darker colors, but they flow flawlessly. The door to the cafe is the same dark wood of the sign with a brushed brass antique looking handle, though it was new. The glass on the door was stained slightly, giving it a blur against the metal fillings holding each piece in place. In the center, offset and higher up from the bottom, was a star that was clear as day. Behind it, the open/closed sign could be seen. There is a bell on the inside of the door that matches the handle.
Inside, the building smells of sweet bread and fresh coffee beans with the occasional scent of something sweeter. It is decorated to match the outside. Dark purple velvet curtains frame the two bay windows with gold roping holding them back. Each bay window was accompanied with a booth and matching throw pillows in the window. It looked comfortable enough to sleep in. The center had several tables that sat high up from the ground with matching backed stools and dark red cushions. They were sturdy enough looking chairs.
Upon the walls were delicate tea-cup shaped lights, which was rather fitting for a cafe. In between those lights were frame photographs of employees as well as the newspaper clippings from the grand opening. Smiling faces of previous customers could be seen as well.
The very center of the room was lit up by a cascading chandelier made of crystals. It looks like a waterfall of light shimmering and reflected rainbows across the walls. It was a rather nice touch to finish off the decorations.
The front counter is simple enough. A pastry display shows the current batch of sales, as well as the special of the day which is written on a chalkboard above. There is an older looking register as well, however you notice a card reader for purchase made via Bank of Gambino which must signify the register was newer than it appeared. Behind the counter were a plethora of appliances. The obvious used for the coffee drinks, as well a soda fountain and fresh fruit smoothie makers. An eat in counter, one can see, was recently added in front of an area that looked like a sandwich station. There was a frame, an eight by ten, that held the menu as well as many thin paper ones to take home or use at the cafe. There is also a set of double swinging doors at the back, which showed where the kitchen was as there was an 'Employees Only' sign.
And without further ado, the Feather Quill Cafe.
