Dapper Seeker

It had been a long and arduous day as Copperkey lifted herself up from one step to the next, her emerald gaze seeking refuge in the stained glass windows of the front door. As she ventured up the porch her mind wound about the adventure she'd carried over into this world, a single slender piece of jewelry tightly clasped in her right hand. She stared at the rouge-hued jewel and let out a long sigh, then as quickly as she had carried it, she submerged it into her pant pocket and opened the door.

"Ark...? Are you home?" She called out, the flicker of lights bringing the building to life as she stepped through the door. A single ball of fur hopped down from the second floor and greeted the tired young lady. Key scooped up the cat and pressed it close.

"Did our night guest find what he was after?" She murmured into his silver coat. The feline purred and the young lady nodded. "I wish I had been home, I would have offered him a room."

She looked toward the back of the parlor and smiled.

"Still can if he's still around."
A voice chirped from the sofa, "Yep, ah'm still here, fortunately oar unfortunately fer you." The man was sitting on one of the sofas with his feet up, arms around his suitcase, and the hair on one side of his head matted, looking like he had slept there for the day. He sprung up and set down his case, stepping forward with an outstretched hand. "Ah'm Albie Raske; it's nice tae meet you. Ah found ma accommodations quite suitable." His face was strait without a hint of sarcasm in his voice, yet it was still hard to tell if he was being earnest. "Ah intend tae stay fer a few days, mehbe mer. An ah would like a cup af tea, please."

*sitting at the back of the parlor at a small table minding her own business quietly sipping a cup of tea was a beautifully attired maid, brushing back a strand of hair, she stands and curtsies*

Greeting Miss, would you by chance be the owner of the wonderful establishment?

Looking up at the young man on her sofa a smile caught onto those copper hued lips and the magician turned to greet her guest. As he spoke of his intentions and rose to make her acquaintance she brought up her own slender fingers and cupped them within his, shaking firmly. It delighted her that she had found herself her first patron

"It is a pleasure, Albie Raske. I am Copperkey, but you may call me Key if you wish." she introduced herself and tilted her brunette locks downward in greeting. "We would love to have you here. And I'd be happy to get right on the cup of tea."

She began to move away and then turned for a moment.

"Oh, and I assume you'll want a room upstairs?" She chuckled. "Please, choose any at all, they're all open currently. One more thing, what flavor would you care for?"

Hearing another voice across the room and toward the kitchen the copper haired miss spied a young woman none too far away and beamed.

"Why, indeed I am! And how may I be of service to you this lovely evening, my dear?"

You question should be how can I be of service to you Miss. *walks towards the copper haired proprietor* I am but a humble maid, and noticed that you seem to be a bit understaffed, so I am offering my services in exchange for room and board. I am passing through on my way to elsewere, so I do not know how long I will be staying. *curtsies again*

Awaiting her first customer's reply, Key honed in on the young woman's words and tilted her head. The young lady was quick to the point, but courteous. She held herself proudly, but in a way that conveyed civility and promise. The brunette was beginning to grow fond of her already. And so, with a brush of her waistcoat, Copperkey nodded and began pointing around.

"Parlor room, kitchen." She pointed down and then to the back. Right after her hands swiveled to the door to the study and the stairwell. "Library and upstairs are the bedrooms. You're hired."

It was abrupt and not at all how Key had imagined herself hiring someone, but she did need help and it amused her to play about bringing someone on so quickly.

"You'll start as soon as possible and you are under probation. Get comfortable for tonight and tomorrow we'll go over your responsibilities here at the cafe. Are you okay with this?"

Her eyes darted to the gentleman once more, not wanting to be rude and leave his taste buds unanswered. She awaited both individual's responses attentively.

*Being a bit overwhelmed by all of the sudden pointing, and the open acceptance that she isn't used to the maid says the first thing that comes to mind* Yes Miss! Right away! *but but not knowing where to go she stands perfectly still staring at the copper haired woman trying to remember exactly what she had said* I am to start work tomorrow Miss?

Out of the corner of her eye Key spotted the flurry of uncertainty settling in her newly found maid. The smile had never once left the magician's face, but as Key stood there it did seem to grow. She chuckled and nodded her head. Speaking, her voice reached a slower and calmer pace. The brunette certainly didn't want to fluster the girl into leaving.

"Yes, yes you are. So, for now...wander. Get to know the place. Have you been to the town to the south of here? It's where we'll be getting all our supplies. I want you to understand the cafe's workings just as well as I. So for now, find yourself a room upstairs, okay?"

*looks around a bit nervously* I just came from the town actually. Well passed through. It seemed nice enough. *nods and wanders over to the staircase picking up a previously unnoticed suitcase* There are rooms up here you said? *puts my foot on the bottom stair and pausing looking back to my new Mistress*

Key watched the lass move to her luggage and bring the pieces of cargo toward the stairwell. With a nod of assent it was made apparent that the rooms were free for the choosing. All, save one. Or two, once Albie had chosen his lodgings. She turned to the gentleman briefly, checking to see if he had made his decision yet. It was always a fine thing to take one's time choosing a tea. She then turned back to the young lady and smiled.

"Take whichever one that has a silver knob. If the knob is copper colored it has been taken by a guest or another staff individual. You won't be able to open that door in that case. I have the room at the very end near the window. Please let me know if you need anything."

Thank your for your patience Miss! *bows slightly and hurries up the stairs my skirts bouncing as I disappear out of sight at the top of the stairs in search of a room* You won't regret hiring me Miss! *a faint female voice floats down into the parlor room from somewhere upstairs*

Sir Quixote

The being's armor clanked against the stone path as it strolled along, looking this way and that for the establishment he had heard so much about. After all, it was not every day that one escorted a fellow adventurer to their dwelling and was then pushed towards a café which was supposedly the proper way of ending one's journey. Perhaps Quixote had heard of such a thing before, but if he had, it was lost now. Such a long, strange journey it had been. His monocled eye came upon a somewhat large building in the distance, and his shoulder hissed as steam rose from the exhaust pipes. The monocle extended itself, much like a spyglass, giving the being a better view of the establishment. A voice, metallic, yet curious, mused, "Well, this must be the place."

So, the being made the trek up to the doors of the café, opened them, then stood to the side of the doorway, its eight foot tall taking up a lot of space. He looked around for a moment, then walked over to a table, gently sitting down on one of the chairs, trying not to break it.

There was just a moment or so where Copperkey was allowed to chuckle at the young lady who had joined her ranks in the cafe. And then that time had passed as the little bell just above the entryway chimed and the young lady turned to find something a wee bit...different making its way into her home. The magician peered up, up and further still until she was making what would be eye contact with the monocled and mechanical sire. Her head swiveled as it made its way to a chair and took seat in its confines. Renewed excitement from her adventures swept into her heart and a smile played over her copper hued lips. She crossed the room and immediately bowed to the new customer.

"Welcome! It's great to have you here in the cafe. Can I be of service?" Her words were tinged with the interest she tried to hide behind her dancing gaze.
