Welcome to Obsidian Skies Space Station!

The Earth year is 2999 A.D. and at the edge of the Milky Way galaxy stands a large intergalactic space station, given the name Obsidian Skies, a welcoming inn, rest stop and supplier that is just inside of neutral territory. Ships mainly from the Milky Way leaving the galaxy tend to stop in, with many different humanoids being the main population of the large space station.

Obsidian Skies is a safe haven for those who are weary, in need of supplies, weapons, ship repairs, and rest. It is a ceasefire and neutral territory for military and intergalactic citizens. In many cases those on the run for criminal accusations, records or with bounties on their heads and those in need of shelter can find the station to be a temporary or long-term home. People and creatures from all walks of life and from every corner of the galaxy can be found here, and enemies beyond the space station can be seen walking side by side within. It is a peaceful place.

Obsidian Skies is a large space station with a spherical center that is seven miles high at its peak by seven miles wide at its greatest width, with eight separate ports labeled N, S, E, W, NE, NW, SE, and SW. The North, South, East and West ports extend 5 miles beyond the center dome and are mainly used for imports and deliveries. The North East, North West, South East and South West ports are for used for traffic and travelers and only extend 2 miles out past the center dome. In some instances Bus Ships and Space Tours will stop on their route as a tourist hot spot or in a rare emergency when systems fail for repairs as well as intergalactic tune ups.

While the docking ports are labeled after directions, it is well known that the compass-shaped station is in a fixed, slow rotation of about 5 mph and that the directions are irrelevant in space. They are just names.

What is noted is that only the top half of the center sphere is available to the public. The lower half is sealed off from everyone, including the owner.

The station is powered by a combination of magnetism and electricity. The space station is nearly 300 years old and so it has many old fashioned features. A gas mixture is generated by an air generator, which has a healthy mix for humans and similar humanoids and bioandroids. It is not a pure oxygen environment. Most of the station is space that is filled with what keeps it operating, including generators, wires and magnets.

The Space Station is outfitted with old, but classic barrier defense shields that can repel up to 20 nuclear explosions. The defenses are only used when under certain attack and are automatic but can be turned on or off manually.

Being a rather old space station, many times generators will go out and have to be fixed frequently. The artificial gravity generator is particularly old and is thought to be the original of the space station and has frequent problems. Don’t be alarmed if you’re suddenly in zero gravity!

For people to get from level to level, there are large portals on each level that can take you to your desired floor with just a thought. The technology is called short distance teleportation, or SDTP.

The generated portal that appears at the end of a loading bridge after docking, however, will only teleport directly to the Entrance Terminal unless the ship that is docking sends out an emergency signal that lets the space station automatically know that there are severely injured people aboard, in which case the default portal will be changed to the infirmary and hospital, which will require by protocol for the severely injured to be taken off first. The default portal will then be changed back to let the uninjured enter the Entrance Terminal, where certain mandatory procedures take place.

Violence is typically not allowed inside of the space station, and while few fights break out, if they are severe enough with weapons that can endanger the space station and its people, the attackers will be surrounded by a barrier which they cannot escape after the space station’s small robot defense system activates after violence is detected. The circular robots are small but have the ability to immobilize and suspend a suspect’s movements. The suspect will be rendered immobile and/or unconscious, at which point they will be sent off in a shuttle bound for Earth’s justice department with an automated report sent with the shuttle.

Advanced measures are taken against pirates and those who wish to attack the space station, with top of the line automated security built into the space station’s defense. All docks are closed during an attack. Laser canons well hidden will take down a threatening or attacking ship without mercy.

              User Image

              1. Your ship will send out a signal that communicates with Obsidian Skies requesting to dock.

              2. From afar, your ship will be scanned. A warning will be broadcast that you are in ceasefire territory and that no acts of violence are permitted within 50 miles of the space station or within the space station itself.

              3. After accepting the terms of payment of 50,000 Earth Credits per 24 Earth hours, your ship will be assigned a dock in one of the ports. There are about 30 individual docks per commercial port and 12 per civilian port. These fees are waved for the N, S, E, W ports, which are commercial ports only. Each ship’s captain is responsible for payment and will not be permitted to leave until payment is made. After 30 Earth days without payment, your ship will be impounded by intergalactic police and you will be forced to leave.

              4. After successfully entering the assigned port, based on your ship’s construction, a loading bridge custom made by the station’s nanobots will assemble, and you will exit your ship’s door, enter the loading bridge, and walk a short distance to the portal that appears, which will take you to the Entrance Terminal by default.

              User Image

              1. Pay the Earth Credits you owe through the scanner in your room or by any scanner located on all levels. Accept the amount for all services, repairs, food and drink or take up issues with the owner.

              2. After payment is made, the station’s sensors will let you leave at will to your ship through any of the entrance terminal’s portals. (There are 4.)

              3. Start your ship and wait for the automatic prompt that will clear your leave. When cleared, you may pilot away from the dock slowly. If you take off without clearance you risk damaging the space station’s dock and port. If you do damage, the repair fees will be added to your account which you will be responsible for on your next arrival, which you will have to pay before entering a dock upon your next visit. You can buy upgrades at the station that will allow you to pay or check accounts from your ship, able to be used in many galaxies and planets!

              1. Godmoding is not allowed by ANYONE unless there is a disruption in the thread, in which the owners of the thread are allowed to kick you out, using the defenses of the space station in RP or just by deleting posts. Because ******** you if you’re being an a*****e trying to kill everyone and destroy everything, that’s why.

              2. Literacy. Post at least a paragraph or more. Quality writing is valued.

              3. You are allowed to interact with NPCs freely. Just keep in mind the first rule. Nothing unreasonable, as in taking an NPC away from their job or hurting them.

              4. ToS. You agreed to it when you joined this website, follow it.

              5. Keep OOC talk limited in the RP thread. Only post OOC in emergencies in the main thread. As in, you have to leave and you won’t be returning for a long while because your house got blown up. (I hope this never happens to anyone.) There is a link in the introduction post to join the OOC thread. Talk all greetings, plot lines and discussions here. Not in the thread. Do not bump OOC, bump with a character post. If the thread dies, it dies. It happens a lot to walk-in roleplays.

              6. Keep an open mind. This is a futuristic roleplay and technology in this realm is advanced and bizarre and can quite easily be more than what we currently understand. Don’t demand a damn physics book reply in response to questions your characters might ask in the roleplay. The character, such as a mechanic will know, NOT the typist necessarily.

              7. If you have questions about the space station or would like to implement a change you think would be in the roleplay's best interest, PM me.

              8. If you post pictures, I’d prefer them drawn. Anime pictures are fine, as are realistically drawn pictures.

              9. The one law implemented in this thread and realm is that grape wine is hard to find and can get you killed if you are known to own it or produce it, because a virus wiped out all of the grapes on Earth. It is an FPI. (Frequently Pirated Item.) This is a rule. ^_^

              10. Do not quote unreasonably. Quote fragments or just the name of the person you wish to reply to or get the attention of are preferred. No quote towers or quoting anything from the first page.

              11. Deaths may occur in this roleplay. If you are to kill another character, you must get permission. To NEARLY kill after a fight is consented to OOC, there is not any permission needed. Your character will be evicted from the space station however.

              12. By posting, you accept all of these rules and that they are subject to change at any time, including that there may be additional rules later on. Thank you and have a great time! Ily.

              1. Violence is not permitted.

              2. WMD are not permitted inside of the space station. Violators will be immobilized by security and sent off the space station.

              3. This is neutral territory and you cannot be persecuted for talk of illegal activities or for your affiliations with militant groups, inside or outside of the law.

              4. All races are welcome from all galaxies, so long as they have not personally threatened or acted against the space station in the past. Some races that do not breathe the common gases in Earth’s atmosphere and cannot adapt will have to wear their own gear to prevent death.

              5. Slaves already in your possession are allowed. Taking new slaves is not. Disciplining slaves in public will get you fined, and in some cases if the discipline is too violent, will get you immobilized and sent from the ship without your slave, who will become a refugee.

              6. Refugees are under the protection of Intergalactic and Space Station Law. You may not enslave current refugees or anyone at any time during the course of your stay at the space station.

              7. Engaging in acts of illegal trading in public will get you a hefty fine or you will be forced to leave.

              8. Individuals with or without space ships, in case of a dire emergency, will be evacuated from the space station free of charge and will be teleported to their ships or life ships. Those without ships will be evacuated through the space station’s life ships, which are smell enough for three people to fit in and they will be sent to the nearest neutral territory planet, space station or rest stop.

              Storage

Many things are stored here in very separate areas. This is a heavily secured area and only authorized personnel can enter. A portal is only opened here when shipments are brought in. There are weapons for ships, weapons for civilians, rare foods, common foods, 3D printer supplies, ship parts, and antiques.

              The Dock/Port Managers’ Offices

The dock managers work from here and oversee all ports and docks. Typically they are in a room, sitting or standing and surrounded by holograms that show each port which interacted to touch. With incoming ships that are deemed hostile to the space station, the dock manager has the ability to override automatic docking that usually takes place and refuse entry. The dock manager also oversees all incoming merchandise and watches that things run smoothly. When a problem arises they can access the stations automated programs to repair docks and ports, or in certain cases alert the manual maintenance mechanic.

              Mechanics’ Office

This is where the mechanics who are not busy are at, usually in the lounge while they are on duty and there is no work, which is incredibly rare, or if they are on break. Captains will enter the mechanics’ office and consult with the secretary to schedule repairs, detailing, registration, and weapon fitting along with other various services. While most repairs can be handled through the station’s own nanobots and mechanical robots, there are things they are not capable of which the mechanics handle.

              User Image

              Entrance Terminal

This is where visitors will be allowed in and can buy access to rooms for the long term or the short term and can pay their ship’s docking fees upfront. Upon arrival complimentary translation devices are offered to those without by the station’s automated robots, which hover around from visitor to visitor. The translators are outdated earpieces that the visitors wear. A service available in the infirmary offers a small, built in translator chip injection, which is clearly advertised by bright holograms upon entry.

Refugees are offered the translator chip injection free of charge upon arrival, as well as a credit chip that waives having to pay for clothing (12 complete outfits) and food for two years (3 meals a day below 50 EC for a day) and free access to capsule rooms in the inn. The chip will break down by nanobots and be flushed out of your body harmlessly after two years of service, and if refugee status is unchanged within the refugee’s home planet and relocation is not possible, a new credit chip will be administered. Refugees are offered jobs after passing a psychological evaluation administered by the station’s medics, but they are not required to work.

              Restaurant and Bar

The restaurant and bar is high end and spacious, elegant, and expensive. Typically the wealthy come here to eat, drink and enjoy the view of the stars shining bright and clear in the distance. Ships can sometimes be seen from here. Crystal chandeliers hang and dimly light the room, with one giant diamond chandelier hanging in the center of the public restaurant. For those who make special reservations, they can be taken to the restaurant’s curtained off rooms that are sound proof and have a barrier that does not allow anyone that is not a member of the party or staff inside. Staff only enters when summoned. The restaurant’s six private rooms are usually booked well in advance and go for large amounts of money. On occasion a reservation for one of these private rooms can be cancelled for the right sum.

It is rumored that Earthen grape wine is available to be ordered from these back rooms, which is incredibly rare in any galaxy due to the near extinction of Earth grapes. Only the rich have access to seeds and proper technology to grow and care for them. Those that can afford the technology can afford to make wine, which is expensive in new batches and even rarer in years prior to the virus that wiped out almost all grapes on the Earth. It is often a black market product, and talking of having it openly is frowned upon in public and outside of ceasefire territories can get you killed if you’re known to have it.

              The Obsidian Skies Inn

On the lower third level, there is space consisting of 750 capsule rooms meant for the poor, for some staff of the space station and for refugees. This is the only space with rooms being able to be seen and walked to by all parties. This level has a portal that the public can access and each capsule can be rented per night for 20 EC and sleep two adults and one child. Parties of the lower classes often happen in the open space of this area. There are hover bots controlled by sensing the direction you’re slightly leaning while on them that you can ride to your capsule room. They are robots that stay on this level and that will not go through a portal. Once a day nanobots are released into the occupied capsules that automatically “bathe” the people staying within. It is done without their knowledge and is noninvasive, most often when they are sleeping.

The second level is for budget customers. There are about 200 of these rooms on the inn’s second level and cost about 1,000 EC per night. Once you have been assigned your room number, it is registered to your credit chip by the inn keeper who resides on the second level of the inn. Once registered, any portal can take you to your room. Rooms on this level cannot be accessed by foot and must be accessed by portals. Rooms on the second level can sleep up to 8 people and offer roomy shower and bathing spaces.

The inn’s third level consists of 50 rooms that offer the luxury experience. They come with their own mini bar, traditional beds with up to 6 separate rooms and large baths with a spa area and their own lounge area. The spa area is both old fashioned and has new technology, including age reversal therapy that is complimentary when the room is purchased. They have their own luxury food printing station and can order room service if they want something fresh. These rooms are often bid upon and go from anywhere between 40,000-250,000 EC per night depending on the current demand and sometimes much higher. Like the second level of the inn, rooms can only be accessed by portals after registration and payment and cannot be accessed by foot.

              The Ball Room

This level is typically off limits to the public. Once a year the space station has its annual celebration and guests can then access this level. This area is rarely allowed to be rented out due to safety concerns for the party that can afford renting it.

              Conference Rooms

These rooms are available for rent by anyone who can afford the 15,000 EC charge. There are many available, some large and some small, and access can be granted by a kiosk in the Entrance Terminal and be made so that only party members who are registered at the kiosk can enter. These work similar to the access of the inn’s rooms. A number is assigned to your chip and party member’s chips and then access being granted with the thought to be there when entering a portal.

              Market

This level has shops ranging from end to end, with products often displayed by holograms in front of the buildings the printers reside in. The 3D printers on this level are numerous, with some offering low end quality clothing to high end clothing and other items. Not all printers print the same things. Some shops offer sit down or “take out” restaurants that will print your food for you that can be taken or eaten at the restaurant’s location. These are often self-serve style restaurants where you can order sitting down and have it printed in front of you by moving 3D printing robots, or that can be ordered at a stationary printing station in the front of the restaurant and taken to go. Hover bots are widely available for ease of travel if desired. There are some shops with traditionally made items with automated vendors. These items are more expensive and not always of better quality, but still valued by the rich. The ceiling of the market reflects the Earth’s sky depending on the time of day it is there. The sky is realistic and often has people unfamiliar with Earth looking up towards it as the time changes.

              Infirmary & Hospital

If travelers are feeling sick or are injured, they are advised to come here. There are many body scanners that will assess and find the problem rapidly, and different nanobots are available that treat different humanoids. If a serious injury or illness occurs, the trained medics can perform machine assisted surgery or manual surgery if equipment should fail. In some minor or common surgeries, the machines can handle the surgery alone.

              Rooftop Park and Garden

The rooftop garden has real flowers and real blue grass that is as soft as silk, real waterfalls and ponds, and many benches along the path that winds around the grounds, framed by hedges. This is the last level in the space station, with a transparent roof and walls, the top of the space station that allows space to be seen in all its glory. Picnics are welcomed as well as socializing. People from all classes come here and are welcome here at all times, although compared to the rest of the station, this is the least visited part and at times the garden and park is nearly empty. Many alien flowers exist here, and all of the grounds are carefully tended to by nanobots, robots and staff.
