Overhearing Nolan's passive comments regarding a recent conflict at the venue, Renji's tattooed eyebrows rose slightly, although largely obscured by the bandanna around his head, it could not conceal his moderately surprised expression. That information seemed quite relevant; a battle on that sort of scale could potentially attract a lot of unsavoury characters, perhaps investigating here first would end up being a lot more productive than he thought.
Renji nodded slowly with a contemplative hum once Nolan continued to speak about the location, to which he presently scanned their surroundings once again. The plantlife was vibrant and the greenery lush; considering how vast the grounds seemed, it was certainly well-kept, there was no denying that. Although Renji's gaze was presently drawn back toward the approaching figures of Spike and Ryuu as they neared where he stood along with Lex and Nolan, to which a polite smile reappeared on his face at being greeted by Spike and presently Ryuu also, his hand rising in greeting. Although Renji promptly froze for an instant at hearing Nolan voice his assumption about him and Lex, to which his eyes widened in surprise at the notion, completely caught-off guard, but Lex did not seem to much hesitate in correcting the necromancer. Renji could not help but notice however that Lex referred to him as a friend, in spite of knowing him for only a matter minutes beforehand, which somehow struck him as strangely amusing. He was after all, solely there to investigate and had a mission to complete, relationships were the last thing on his mind and judging by Lex's prompt reply, it wasn't high on her priorities list either. Much as Lex did have a strange appeal Renji couldn't help but like, now really wasn't the time to think about it, or stare at Ryuu for that matter, particularly since it seemed that attention had not gone unnoticed by Spike. Although once Lex glanced across at him, Renji felt obliged to affirm her correction.

"Yeah, we aren't...involved."
Lex's response sounded a great deal more convincing than his own, although Renji reasoned it wasn't abnormal to look awkward and it probably added to making him seem all the more harmless, which was his aim in any case. It seemed however this was the Spike and Ryuu Nolan spoke of as Lex encouraged clarification, to which Ryuu elaborated somewhat, but Renji could not help but notice she seemed slightly withdrawn in spite of being polite and welcoming, her attention drawn to the injuries of the necromancer as Spike seemed ready to answer the further question Lex posed. At this Renji felt all the more encouraged to ask some of his own, although Lex certainly had a good point regarding how they were greeted; welcome and genuine as it was, they probably did greet everyone in this way, but their mannerisms did suggest they probably were in the midst of something else beforehand. Although he listened with interest as Spike responded to the questions directed toward both him and Ryuu.
"Well actually we have a reopening celebration going on so we were expecting to see more folks around. Ryuu and I try to greet new arrivals, but Nolan tends to have that covered if we don't."
Glancing back at the necromancer nearby upon hearing this, Renji spared Lex a contemplative look before turning to face Spike.
"So there is a party going on; it seems we chose a good time to stop by. Do you have any vacant rooms left?"
Pausing for a reply, Renji's gaze wandered back to Nolan once again whilst he spoke with Ryuu, still standing alongside Spike, to which Renji unconsciously began to survey her once again. His gaze perhaps lingered slightly longer than necessary as he mentally began to narrow down the list of possible beings Ryuu could actually be, since he was certain she couldn't possibly be human. Her beauty was almost ethereal, as was her apparent grace in spite of a well-concealed discomfort just barely noticeable at this point; although Renji was so absorbed in these contemplations he did not seem to realise Spike had noticed his close observations just as much as Ryuu was avoiding his gaze for the exact same reason. It seemed Renji had come across a whole lot more than he bargained for already; a woman he believed may have been from a powerful but presumed extinct race, a long-lived human with an increasingly rare if frowned upon talent and a being that he'd always assumed existed only in myth.
