Casually scanning the room, keeping a passive watch on those present, the movement of Spike’s gaze came to a sudden halt at Hanyo’s words, to which his eyes were drawn back toward the succubus, expression initially quite unreadable. Although following Hanyo’s wink as she came to a natural pause, a small smile gradually emerged on his face.
”I don’t think that’s necessary.”
Responding simply, a slight smile of amusement still present on his face, Spike opted out of saying anything more; he’d grown used to Hanyo’s teasing and preferred to leave her speculating, especially considering how much it tended to unsettle Ryuu . Although Spike was inwardly relieved Ryuu had not yet returned as a result, this relief quickly faded as Hanyo persisted. Still looking to provoke a response, what was earlier implied now abundantly clear as Hanyo continued on, Spike’s calm demeanour faltered for an instant as he finished his drink and placed the empty glass on the bar before responding.
”...I bet you would.”
Hearing Hanyo’s smirk as he turned and reached for the whiskey bottle on the bar, Spike glanced back toward the succubus once he replenished his glass with the amber liquid. Lowering the bottle to the polished surface once again and taking a sip of his drink, Spike regarded Hanyo carefully as the succubus went on to speak of Himiko and laugh with amusement. Although as Hanyo moved to find herself something to drink from the selection available, Spike’s gaze had already settled on Ryuu whom had reappeared from the hallway and was rapidly moving across the room toward them, clearly she’d overheard at least some of what had been said and looked unusually annoyed as a result.
Seeing Ryuu approach and overhearing Hanyo’s words to IA during which, Spike gave a short sigh; at least the girl seemed unaware of Hanyo’s implications to her words and instead seemed content to continue eating, although he found the chance to criticise had passed as Ryuu quickly voiced her concerns over Hanyo’s choice of topic. Eyes widening, Spike quickly glanced back at one of the tables on the other side of the room to find Kari and Lillith were still very much present and eating quietly, keeping their heads down due to the current conversation, to which Spike felt a slight twinge of guilt as they clearly could have overheard all that was said. Yet once Ryuu calmed following her polite rebuke at Hanyo for her choice of words, Spike could not help but notice she shied away from his gaze for a moment, unusually flustered. With a twinge of concern lingering at the back of his mind as a result, Spike observed Ryuu’s approach carefully; much as it was highly distracting just to watch her light-footed progress as she drifted toward the bar where he stood, the short kimono complimenting every additional curvature created by her movement.
Leaning slightly downward to listen as Ryuu spoke in a hushed voice, Spike regarded her once again before responding; her posture was slightly tense and voice lightly strained, but the look in Ryuu’s eyes alone was enough to convince him something had deeply unsettled her, although what exactly that might have been wasn’t entirely clear. Nodding with a calm smile, Spike reasoned Ryuu certainly had handled her reaction a lot better than he did the first time Hanyo made teasing remarks, to which he reached across to smooth a number of loose strands of hair away from Ryuu’s face as he responded in an equally lowered voice.
”A lot better than I did the first time around.”
Smirking somewhat at this, Spike turned slightly to lower his glass to the bar as Ryuu spoke on, to which he glanced back at Kari and Lilith for several seconds before giving a slight shrug and a smile.
”She probably will since I’m betting her kid will be getting tired soon...”
When Ryuu spoke on however, Spike’s expression grew somewhat troubled, although more through the worry evident in Ryuu’s voice as she trailed off, to which he paused and looked at her for several seconds.
” What’s wrong with cutting loose?
Placing his hand lightly on Ryuu’s back as she stepped closer, Spike could see the worry evident on Ryuu’s face during the seconds that passed before she hurriedly changed the subject to cooking, to which he gave a slightly puzzled nod and a smile as she reached up to drape her arms around his neck.
”Sure.”
When Ryuu leaned closer to kiss his cheek, Spike carefully enclosed his arms around her, gently supporting her petite frame as he gazed at her with a look of concern; although saying nothing, his expression remained questioning. What’s wrong? Pausing for several seconds to look upon her, Spike reasoned he would need to query this more directly, but not in the presence of others as Ryuu was clearly attempting to conceal her discomfort, which meant the kitchen may be the safest bet as and when they ventured on to prepare more food for those present.
Spike came out of these contemplations however upon hearing IA’s voice clearly a short distance away, to which he glanced from Ryuu and across the room, his voice returning to its usual volume as he queried IA’s interest in spacecraft repair, unaware of the arrangement she made with Ryuu earlier.
”Crashed spaceship? Are you talking about the Bebop? Why the sudden interest?”
