Staggering about from the huge quake in the ground, the flamelurkers were slow to react and many unable to prevent themselves falling as it worsened still, making them easy prey for the advancing mass of spiders under the Mistress’ command. Many that were not cocooned in thick webbing, incinerated by their own constrained flames as a result, were trampled by their advancing oni comrades. Whilst most of the oni that did so were badly burned as a result, they retaliated on their comrades and incapacitated many more of the flamelurkers. Powerful or not, in comparison to the oni the more brittle flamelurkers were no match for the brute strength of the oni. They did not cease their march however, their master instructed them to continue until death, to which their remaining number regained their footing, their flames shifting back to amber as the rain eased and they moved to surround the newest addition on the field. Encircling and advancing on the mech, uncertain as to what it was and slightly tentative as a result, the flamelurkers still approached, the flames about their heads increasing in height for an instant before expelling a shower of flames above the mech and its occupant, testing almost to see what it was capable of.

Matching the screeching howl of the pained succubus with a loud bellow , the ice oni did not expect retaliation so swiftly or so viciously, to which it writhed and roared in protest, but could do little to prevent it’s throat being ripped out, it’s fellows however did not seem dissuaded and only encouraged to attack. Snapping at the succubus as she almost danced about them, biting down on any limb within reach and carving away random lumps of oni flesh as the whip twirled about in the air, the oni had themselves a worthy opponent now she had found her second wind. It was expected they would be unsettled by the injuries inflicted and imminent deaths for some of their number, but it seemed their crazed anger was only enhanced by the succubus’ bloodlust. Pounding the earth with their fists, the earth oni forced rocks upward about the succubus in an effort to restrict her movement, whereas the ice oni fell back slightly, allowing their electric variety to close in, sparks jumping off them as they mindlessly swung their fists at the succubus.
***
Finding they were forced back by a magical barrier of some sort, the earth oni intent on attacking the humans looked confused for some seconds before their rage took hold once again, slamming their fists down on the barrier hard for a moment as the humans seemed to converse. Electrical oni also arrived to support their comrades as eventually the barrier fell, allowing all to lunge forward in unison. Leaning down as they leapt forward, the oni snapped their jaws at the humans in the hope of catching one or at least limiting their movement before they followed up with two clear swipes of their huge fists. The electrical oni present already began to build an surge of electricity, distorting the air about them as a telltale sign they were about to expel even greater energy. One of the humans sustained some damage in an attempt to avoid these blows, the other two it was yet to be seen however.
***
It seemed the nekojin was a force to be reckoned with, the oni in spite of their strength were no match for the weapon the cat-girl swung with precision. After a fair number lost limbs or their lives, they found after regrouping the nekojin had moved on to face two of their master's favoured followers, to which they fell back and opted instead to continue toward the main building from another angle, being met with a wave of spiders as a result.

Multiple tails lashing the air, Rudra’s barred teeth formed into a grin as the small feline grew in size, becoming a much larger beast, one that would be infinitely more enjoyable to fight. Almost trembling in anticipation, Rudra was more than happy to loosen his grip and step back when the black feline rose and gave a roar, its rumble creating a pleasant hum in his ears whilst it barred its teeth in readiness to fight. A faint amber aura starting to shroud his form, Rudra sank his claws into the earth and crouched slightly in readiness.
“Ladies first.”
***
Chuckling at her sibling's comment directed at the black feline, Nirriti patiently began to circle the nekojin in a predatory fashion, sniffing the air. analysing her opponent and gnashing her rows of teeth almost with a sense of impatience.
"...This will be very entertaining."
Watching as droplets of inky blood dripped down from the nekojin's chin, Nirriti came to a dead stop when she heard her cracking the bones in her neck, the sound making the demon's ears twitch considerably to which she lunged without warning, a yowl piercing the air and a manic grin upon the demon kitsune's face. Whipping an elongated tongue out at at the nekojin, it was struck by one of the prayer notes tossed from the roof, the source unclear as the roof was now empty, although it was little solace for the demon fox as she reeled her tongue back ungracefully, her sibling roaring with laughter almost like a hyena, to which she snarled and snorted a plume of foxfire at her sibling. This lasted mere seconds however as relatively unperturbed, Nirriti quickly resumed her lunge on the nekojin, speed increasing to a blur as she darted about the cat-girl, finally settling on leaping up onto the scythe she carried and biting down onto it hard, latching onto the weapon with a vice-like grip.
***
Hearing another voice, Rudra glanced at the porch to find the elderly woman had leapt into action, directing his feline opponent to use some manner of spell against him, to which he chuckled and nodded eagerly.
"Yes, yes, I want to see it!"

Back in the main building, there was little sound besides the movement of those within and the creak of weakened portions of the structure, the rest of the noise came from outside. Although faint at first, an increasingly frequent noise quite different from the rest could be heard from a single solitary device, currently on the floor under layers of dust and debris in Room 3. Distorted and unclear, the sounds seemed to form words too faint and disjointed to hear, yet the odd clear syllable could be heard periodically, it was largely drowned out by overwhelming static. The device simply spouted noise for some moments more until one single, if slightly garbled, word was audible, perhaps only to those in the near vicinity in the main building, before the device deactivated once again.
“…H-h…e…l-lo?”

════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════

Glancing down at his Jericho 941, Spike’s resolve seemed to falter for an instant, he knew he was already at a disadvantage against opponents as formidable as the flame-creatures shambling about them, to be limited all the more by losing some of what firepower he had was risky, potentially fatal; but his decision was already made.
”I’ll be fine. Can’t exactly leave you fighting with a stick at a time like this.
Simply sparing Autumn a blank look at her retort for the loss of her hat, Spike paused for several seconds once he had succeeded in dragging Himiko a safe distance backward, attempting to ignore the building ache at his side. Being blasted outside the building had perhaps done more damage than he thought, but he had no intention of worrying about it now. Almost immediately Spike resumed fire on the nearest flamelurkers, forcing them to slow but not cease their approach as Autumn continued to comment on the situation before attempting to rouse Himiko also.
“Heh, what pressure?…”
Responding somewhat sarcastically as the flamelurkers closed in on their position, he fired another couple of shots at the nearest flamelurker’s arm, following his initial strike and the close-range shotgun blast fired by Autumn, the creature’s limb finally fell to the ground with a dull thud. The screech from the creature that followed was unpleasant, but nowhere near as unsettling as what followed.

Slightly startled as the light earth tremors increased in intensity, Spike placed one hand on the ground to better steady himself as they rapidly worsened until the shaking was violent enough to topple many of the flamelurkers surrounding Autumn, Himiko and himself, the creatures falling to the ground with confused howls. When the cracks in the earth grew and split into deep crevices, random elements erupting from below, Spike could hear many immense roars from deep underfoot until the ground exploded upward some distance from the main building. Shielding his face as fragments of earth showered down from above, Spike’s squinted through the lightening rain until his eyes widened upon seeing a horde of even more intimidating creatures charging from the hole ripped into the ground by the earthquake.
”Oh, C’MON!”
Looking somewhat exasperated at this, Spike’s annoyance quickly was replaced by a genuine look of unease as a large number of the creatures may have lurched in other directions, but a fair number were charging directly toward where he was crouched with Autumn and the seemingly unconscious Himiko. The distance was rapidly closed in what seemed like an instant, although a small flash indicated Himiko had activated the barrier she received in her trade with Yuuko with plenty of time before the beasts could present any threat.

Somewhat relieved as the earth oni headbutted the barrier and were merely thrown back as a result, Spike then heard Himiko speak, confirming she was indeed conscious, to which he glanced down at her and observed her stagger to her feet. Presently rising to his feet also, raising an eyebrow in a quizzical manner, Spike spared Himiko a somewhat sceptical look, eyes moving between her disorientated face and the new weapon she seemed to have conjured.
”…Are you?”
Half expecting a comment from Autumn before glancing back at the roof of the inn for an instant just before the barrier was lowered, the oni lunged forward almost immediately, to which Spike dove aside, allowing the first of the disgruntled oni to charge on, their attack on them already forgotten and they continued toward the main building; plenty more remained however. Another earth oni snapped its mismatched teeth at Spike, shearing away a sleeve of his jacket as he hopped backward, slightly unsteadily in his haste to dodge a swipe from it’s hand; he barely dodged the lunge of the earth oni, only for the rampaging creature to suddenly swing its other arm blindly in his direction with a roar. Mindless, and vicious; they were simply attacking anything that moved. This made them unpredictable however, to which Spike was unable to dodge the second strike; even just as a glancing blow he was hurled backward easily and thrown back into a nearby lightning oni. Stunned, Spike exhaled unsteadily and shook his head before he peered upward as the creature snarled, its form starting to crackle with electricity. User Image
”S**t!”
Quickly aiming his pistol upward and firing up through the creature’s chin whilst it loomed over him, the close-range shot into its head was enough to kill the creature, although the electricity it generated was yet to discharge. Attempting to get out of range, Spike dove forward onto the grass as the electricity surged toward him in a small lightning burst which went on to shock a nearby flamelurker; the back of Spike’s jacket however was singed from the close-proximity of the lightning and one portion smoked slightly. Sparing himself only some seconds to regain his barings, Spike was certain he could see some manner of mech amongst the many demonic creatures in the area, although it vanished from sight as more oni lumbered in their direction.
”Urgh…”
Pushing himself off the ground and forcing himself to his feet once again, Spike paused only to reload his pistol and start moving in an attempt to avoid any other immediate attacks, scanning his vicinity to see what became of Autumn and Himiko as a mass of spiders began to overcome many of the flamelurkers and some oni.

OOC: Okay, three more posts up.
That drawing is awesome Faceless!
No worries about Nolan, I'm factoring in that he's got a fair disadvantage there. Lol.
Will make a point of going easier on Mistress and Isshu until you can be online Mission. Don't worry about that.

Patient 095: The Oracle

User Image

The Oracle was disturbed by the shifting earth around him. After a nasty teleportation attempt gone awry, he found himself buried approximately 15 feet under the ground. "No matter," he thought, as he was sure that someone would find him eventually. Unfortunately, that "someone" happened to be an Earth Oni. It shifted the dirt around him, throwing him from his hiding place. As he flew through the air, he exclaimed happily, "You found me! I never thought I'd... oh... these people seem new."

"Even I can sense the malice in these new guests." Edward interrupted. "We have missed our opportunity to reason with them. Now is the time for more aggressive action."

"Aye aye cap'n!" exclaimed the Oracle. He righted himself in mid air, and landed in a hedge, which luckily broke his fall.

"Hey look! It's Not-So-Spikey-Spike!" He exclaimed to no one in particular. "Hi Spike!"

The bullets whizzed past.

"Ahhh! Don't shoot me!"

While trying to dodge bullets, it became clear to the Oracle that Spike was in trouble. He needed a distraction so he could get some breathing room and move the others to safety.

He took cover behind a hedge, chopped at it with his arm, and stood on it. He had somehow, through the random patterns of chopping at it, trimmed it into a shape resembling a rubber duck.

He leaped on top of the hedge, and shouted in the direction of the Oni,

"LOOK AT MY HORSE! MY HORSE IS AMAZING!"

"I....I give up." said Edward, head in his hand.

Himiko stumbled slightly, her ruined yukata barely hiding her small breasts as it flapped in the light breeze. The raked gash across her chest bled profusely, but it had slipped into a numbness where she couldn't feel it at all. The yukata was hampering her movement, and she cut the bottom half off, creating a sort of mini-skirt that allowed her to move. Dazed, she stepped forward and tilted sideways, avoiding a slash from one of the electrical oni, and clumsily chopped upward. The blade of pure spiritual energy neatly sliced the oni in half, and the young woman absent-mindedly stepped between a few of the other, much larger oni as they tried to hit her.

Without realizing it, Himiko stumbled into Spike's line of fire, and she threw up both her hands and a barrier. The bullets riccochetted off into the oni surrounding her, wounding them. Angry, the ones immediately around her, all of them flamelurkers, turned and blasted her with fire. After a moment, they stopped, and as the smoke cleared, Himiko's barrier flickered away and a white ring expanded out from her, bisecting the small group.

Of course, she didn't understand what she was doing, being mostly unconscious, but when someone started shouting about horses, she turned to look at it. An earthen fist cracked into her jaw and sent her spinning. Miraculously she landed on her feet, and managed to snap her dislocated jaw back into place before she was electrocuted, paralyzing her while she screamed, and then the electric oni that shocked her pounded her back, sending her flying once again. This time, however, she landed on her face and slid several feet before collapsing and didn't move. A large smoking hole had been burned into her back and it sizzled, the fabric burned away by the heat of the electricity.

The sound that was made as these flamelurkers did what they could to the metal of the mech made his ears cringe at that very sound, sure the metal seemed to go unphased, but the sound in itself made concentrating at the task at hand all the more difficult. The man would have another ray of red roll down his pupils willing the mech into defense. The fire fell over the entire mech model, and due to heat resistance was able to withstand the attack the metal still intact.

Willing up an energy field, the mech had managed to blow off the group that had latched onto the Zeros, and began to pile drive toward a flamelurker that was still flying backward from the counter attack, and with the mech’s machine hand removed a large metal sword as its weapon slashing the fire demon in half in a matter of a second.

The man wouldn’t be able to relish in that long, however, since it would seem the Earth began to shake indicating another wave would be hitting with their assault. He knew what it was like to see the demonic forces attack, and had been in a few battles that resulted in things similar to the scenes playing out right in front of him now.

“All damned corpses with no will of their own…mindless,” the man uttered distastefully.

As the Elemental Oni made their way into the scene, it was at this point that the man took note of the large boulder getting ready to crush a woman who was unprepared for the large assault and decided a helping hand would mean this girl’s life or death.

The hand of the machine went down and another trickle of red went down his dark brown eyes, and the beam released shattering the large boulder into small pieces of debris sparing the woman’s life.

In a tree the man observed a cat and with a light investigating wince of his eyes knew instantly it wasn’t any mere normal creature, for had it been a real cat with a…cigarette? He would be far and gone by now, seemingly distracted, it was then a red light sounded off, as the earth oni had connected with rocks cracking a dent into his cockpit’s sight point, a crack as a result.

“Son of a…” the man cursed. “Curiosity doesn’t only kill the cat…” the man thought that saying would be ironic in this sense, seeing how the mech was taken by surprise of the Elemental oni it would seem he really got into something ugly this time, but, what else was new?

It seemed the battle decided to take a turn for the worse, yet again, and Autumn wasn’t too happy about it. Just when one fleet of demons managed to storm the area, it was another following in it stead only the strength levels seemed to increase with each new set of monsters.

“This is really getting old…” Autumn muttered knowing she wasn’t amused that each fleet seemed to lessen her odds at survival. There wasn’t much confidence inside the human, she only had a shotgun that more or less had only a few more firing rounds, and the ability to teleport at will which took a substantial amount of energy. What was a girl to do?

She tripped over her own footing, as the ground began to give way to the oni that wreaked full of electricity, showcasing with an explosive entrance, as some flamelurkers were taken out by some members of their supposed same team, but it became increasingly clear there was no allegiance, but to the massacre of everyone who resided at the inn, including exterminating their own if in the way.

Autumn had somersaulted out of the way to avoid a huge chunk of rock that more or less would have hit her, causing her to be more attentive to her surroundings, as these new creatures were not to be underestimated. Loud collapses of flamelurkers still filled the area, protesting their fall with loud growls, showcasing their weakness in balance, but Autumn couldn’t focus long on that alone.

It was at this point that Himiko seemed to awaken spiritually indicating she wasn’t only the meek girl everyone knew her for, but instead in that moment more like a warrior ready to defend, and Autumn wasn’t about to argue with that, this place would need all the help it could get, she only wished, herself could offer a more promising fight to help all that she dwelled with.

Autumn wasn’t about to have a pity party, in fact she had taken a great deal into account with the elemental oni and would do her best to out think, instead of out brawn. It was at this point an earth oni had charged at them head on, and saw Spike dive out of the way, of which, Autumn followed suit only jumping off another direction, composing a roll before staying in a knelt position.

“HEY! OVER HERE ROCK SHOWER?!” Autumn yelled at one of the Earth oni’s and was slightly about to get more than she bargained for as a large rock was about to be her demise, Autumn tensed, unable to move, surely it couldn’t end like this.

A blinding blue beam seemed to come flying out of nowhere decimating the rock till it was no longer an object what so ever, leaving only a trickle of matter from the previous boulder that would have smashed her to death. With a keen eye, Autumn went to investigate where that beam came from and noticed a large Mech was a few yards off.

“It’s either my lucky day…or I’m not meant to die just yet…” Autumn let out a sigh of relief but it wouldn’t last for long, the Earth oni roared its protest and it seemed an electric oni was closing in on Spike, Himiko and her position as well, to which Autumn waved her hand sporadically getting the electric oni’s attention as it began to power up its charge, Autumn had no way to know if this would work or not.

Investigating the situation to where the rock oni was, she was doing the calculations in her head and if she planned this right, she could use the own powers of this monsters against one another with her ability, it was all about timing, and counting on the fact these demons wouldn’t care to take out their own with the promise of exterminating their original sought out target.

Identifying the area in her subconscious Autumn took note of the electric oni was about ready to unleash its attack, and it was there the cuffs dangling from her belt loop glowed, clapping once with shotgun in hand and disappeared from her original area near Spike and Himiko and in direct path of the earth rock chucking oni that seemed to pause its attack on the area she just left, causing it to shift its attention on Autumn.

“HEY UGLY!” Autumn chanted toward the one she disappeared from, and it quickly while losing its patience quickly shifted its monster body around hurling electricity toward Autumn, of which she closed her eyes and clapped once more and had reappeared near Spike and Himiko’s area letting out a sigh of fatigue, sweat forming at her brow, this ability didn’t come without a price, she would need to regain her breath before applying that strategy again.

The electricity had connected with the earth Oni and seemed to take him out of commission accidentally hitting a member of its own legion, but it would only howl in contempt, not liking it had been made a fool of, the body of the earth oni fell to the ground, that was one down, but oh so many more to go.

The oni wanted to see a display of his magic? "My pleasure," he growled. He didn't know what Issou was going to do, having not studied her branch of magic yet, but if she wanted to hit her staff with a bolt of lightning, then he was glad that the idiotic oni would give him the chance to take the time to target the spell.

The (now huge) black cat sat back on his haunches and raised his paws. The tension in the air rose and both hair and fur in the immediate area would start to prickle at the jump of electrons. giving a general area for a bolt of lightning from the sky was always easier than choosing a target, and it took a long moment of concentration for him to pick out the staff. The clouds directly above swirled for a moment before Martin let out an echoing wildcat RAWR and a blinding flash of light reached out of the clouds and struck Issou's staff and disappeared. Once again the deafening boom was displaced into the sky where it merely rumbled ominously.

Martin dropped back to all fours and prepared himself for an attack, using however long Issou took and the oni remained distracted to pile enchantments on himself.

Yuni licked her bloodied lips, carefully turning about as the kitsune circled her. She didn't like being circled. In fact, she didn't like the circular shape. It was too... round. What was interesting was how the sound of her bones popping stopped the beast mid-stride. Like a dog hearing a whistle, or a cat with a bell jingling nearby.

Hey. Hey kid...

The Nekojin saw a tongue come at her, her scythe set in front of her. The flicker of paper distracted Yuni, ears twitching and pupils slitting up with the feline urge to pounce on it. No, bad kitty! Stay fuzzy and focused! The paper smelled like it was a defense against the demonic kind, anyhow, so it wouldn't have been good for Yuni to play with... It sure didn't look like the kitsune was going to play with it, as she reeled back and was taunted by the other.

Kid. Furrball.

Icy eyes narrowed, the additional weight thrown onto the top of her scythe upsetting her footing for a moment. There was a fox-thing on her weapon. On her baby. She was biting her baby. Yuni snarled, glaring up at the demon. A shame it clung to the end of the scythe that didn't have the point sticking out... Yuni gave the weapon a little shake-shake and hissed when she found the kitsune's grip was like stink of a skunk.

Don't mess me up, Nytmaer... Be a good, whateveryaare, and I'll let you play. Deal? Yuni mentally replied to the chorus of cacophonous voices in her mind, ears tipped back in disgust at how the thing was chuckling with glee. I'm almost hopin' Kai shows... It's gonna get real messy, real quick, if you get out...

About time... Save the kidneys for me, if it has them. And don't ruin the body before I get to play.

F*ck off.

Those parts too.

Yuni huffed and nonchalantly hefted the staff of her scythe onto a shoulder, looking around quickly to get a glance-over of the battle around her. The elemental oni's had favored those that weren't fighting the kitsune twins, and the Nekojin was eyeing up a sparky beast. A grin slowly spread, splitting her face in two almost. Her free hand dug into her pocket till an odd looking yo-yo was produced, the loop set around her finger and the ball tossed out twice to make sure the metal line was kink free.

"Come come, stay a while... I was jus' 'bout to start the barbie..." Yuni said, flinging the ball up at Nirriti and letting it wind around her body and the bulk of her scythe. She tugged. Yeah, that should be tight enough... Now Yuni would skip over to the electrical oni and joust the tip of her fox-covered scythe into his sparky back. The hard rubber soles of her boots pushed into the earth as she rammed the kitsune into the oni, exhaling and readying for the current to make it down the special metal.

Lady Hanyo's vision blurred. Well, it was more like the hues were shifting. Everything went red, like she were wearing red lenses. Rose colored glasses.... yes, that's what it was like. Suddenly, The world was red. And it was marvelous. So much blood for the taking... The succubus burst into manic laughter, a sound so beyond mirth. A deranged laughter that sent shivers up one's spine. The laughter continued even as her mouth filled with flesh and blood, adding a garbling, gurgle to it that only made it that much worse to listen to. And it was loud... it echoed off the trees and the building, sounding like there were ten succubi rather than just one.

Oni fell under her, blood spattering and pouring out in torrents. No amount of earth could impede her lust driven craze. No frozen gusts could halt her attack. No burning fire would distract her. No electric shock would down her. She fought through each retaliation from the oni as if it were just a smokescreen, deadly elemental energies nothing more than a fog she blasted through with apparent ease. They continued to surround her, and continued to spill delicious blood as they were torn apart.

There was, however, a serious danger here. She was a danger to anyone in her path. Everything was now prey for her. She wanted every drop of blood. Human or demon, friend or foe, it didn't matter. Beyond that, she was a danger to herself. Any injury was going completely unnoticed. She would fight, she would drink blood, she would continue laughing. Nothing but death would stop her.

Ryuu landed inside the crumbling inn. She sandy fox creatures had streaked off out of sight. Her prayer notes lay on the ground, apparently having missed. She sighed. Nobody's perfect, right? Looking around, the inside of the inn was nearly unrecognizable in this state. Dirt and debris littered every surface. The usual light, comforting atmosphere was gone, replaced with chaos and uncertainty. It pained Ryuu to see this. She gathered herself for a moment, and tried to follow wherever those kitsune creatures had gotten to. A dirty paw print and some strands of fur led her down the ruined hallway.
Out of a crumbling wall, she saw them. One was bound to the Nekojin's scythe, the other had rounded on Isshu. Yuni apparently had things under control, but Ryuu was concerned for Isshu. She was, when you came right down to it, just an old woman after all. Could her reflexes, though faster and better than most, really be any match for this creature? Ryuu pounced onto the fox, leaping agilely from her half-concealed stance behind the wall. She pressed three legs onto Rudara's tails, pinning him down to the ground. Her long, sharp legs sunk a few inches through his tails into the earth, rendering him no escape. Her remaining six legs she flailed into a fury of kicks, aiming for every part of the kitsune she could reach, though avoiding its long jaw of razor teeth. Its bones made very satisfying crunching noises under her blows.
"Where is he?" she shouted at Rudara as she struck him. "Where is Scratch? Tell me!" she hissed angrily. She knew these creatures were different than the hoards of creatures they had been fighting. These two had to know something. They were not a mindless army, not disposable or useless. They were here for a reason. "Tell me everything!"

The ground tremors appeared to subside somewhat as the rain overhead also seemed to ease, although the tears in the grounds surrounding the main building continued to grow in size, the earth of the garden splitting into clear sections and slowly being forced apart as some portions continued to be forced upward, whereas others lowered or collapsed into the voids separating each large plate of ground. What lurked in the deep crevasses however was unclear, besides the odd surge in electrical sparks or embers, only an ominous darkness remained beyond.

As though responding to an unspoken summons, the flamelurkers all froze in place in an instant, in unison all turning in silent acknowledgement of the mech making short work of their number that surrounded it. With the suspicious energy source the kappa previously carried now in the hands of one of their oni comrades, the flamelurkers lingering around the charred remains of the tree also began to lumber toward the mech, quite rapidly considering their relatively slow speed. Collectively the flame demons numbers were still at least a hundred strong and whilst weakening they were still a force to be reckoned with, especially now they could sense their master’s presence they had to fulfil their designated purpose at any cost. Swarming toward the mech whilst it began to hack away at the remaining number of flamelurkers in its direct vicinity, it faltered only when the oni’s forces stampeded into the fight, the earth oni in particular rendering some damage and distracting the one directing the mech’s movements. This was enough to allow the approaching flamelurkers to build a counterattack, even though some tumbled to the ground and were trampled by the crazed elemental oni as they ran by. The ten or so flame demons leading the approaching swarm of flamelurkers slowed and came to a stop, allowing their comrades to pass them as they began to bend downward, their bones cracking loudly whilst they did so until their clawed skeletal hands contacted the ground. Motionless as the rest of their number continued to approach the mech, the ground beneath the halted flamelurkers began to increase in temperature, spreading ahead but only affecting the vicinity of the mech within a hundred metre radius. The remaining grass slowly withered in this space as the earth melted away, slowly becoming molten with the intense heat as steam began to rise. Two small plumes of lava began to rise from the affected area as the remaining flamelurkers approached the mech, several diving down and grasping its legs in the hope their collective heat would have greater effect upon it. The single nearby earth oni remained however, not joining in the charge and instead tossing another series of smaller boulders toward the mech, immediately starting to melt as they crossed into the area the flamelurkers had begun the process of turning into a lava field. That would take time however, whether the flame demons would have enough time to succeed in this was yet to be seen.

The smoking feline reclining in a tree in casual observation did not go unnoticed by the flamelurkers as they gathered about the mech however, their oni comrades were too mindless and reactionary to pay any closer observations to their surroundings; this was an attribute only the slower, more intelligent flamelurkers were capable of. Slowly looking up at the cat, some of the flamelurkers paused before the flames about their heads intensified, summoned hellfire immediately springing up about the base of the tree and spreading upward whilst the fire demons simply continued to stare up unblinking, some directing additional flame about its branches, effectively trapping the feline unless it was to react quickly.

Surging on in their relentless charge, some of the oni were indeed felled with varying ease by those defending the venue, but their overall number did not seem to decrease in strength. The gathering about the tree where the kappa had taken refuge had little difficulty in bringing it down, particularly when the flamelurkers weakened it further with their flames. A fire oni leading the search through it’s charred remains gave a triumphant roar in finding the artefact, although it did not find the kappa it did not seem to care as it held the amulet high for all his comrades to see. The innumerable roars that followed from the oni saw the flamelurkers amble away, wisely avoiding any celebratory action of the oni, although it would be short-lived either way. The artefact’s glow increased in intensity until it was near blinding, a small explosion followed, one which caused the area affected to implode for several seconds, erasing a considerable number of the oni gathered about the tree out of existence.

Seeing more of their forces were being met with considerable resistance from the succubus, a huge wave of oni on the verge of storming the main building halted and turned back, leaping over the increasing void between the expanses of ground and charging toward her on mass. Barging past the more heavily injured of their number, the earth oni already present bolstered the attack of the new arrivals, taking the lead as their skin was the tougher of their variety, if not impervious to the fangs of the succubus but better able to bear the brunt of her initial strike. Punching lumps of earth from the ground toward the crazed woman, the earth oni were presently vaulted over by a line of lightning oni, their bodies charged with electricity and humming with the current as they followed each airborne boulder, punching them further to charge them with electricity but also to increase their velocity.

Some being slashed with an energy weapon whereas others were injured either in their own crossfire or with bullets seemingly from all-directions, many of which ricocheted from the barrier one human appeared to summon at will; the oni surrounding the humans were met with surprising resistance, but it was clearly the element of surprise that kept the humans alive up to this point. Now their initial reaction had run its course, the rage of the beasts was only set to increase, particularly at the taunting of the human with the ability to teleport. Sparing enraged roars and a lightning bolt or two at the rubber duck-shaped horse formed in the hedge, the oni regrouped and resumed their attack. Tightening their ranks with the view to prevent any from escaping, the fact the deep void splitting that section of the garden would prevent any humans from escaping with ease eluded the simple-minded creatures; only the one with the ability to teleport could potentially do so, although it would leave her very much alone in the army amassed on the grounds. A lightning oni in close proximity to the female human felled by its attack slowly approached, cracking its knuckles as the earth oni charged toward the human male whom had recently found his feet once again, although his injuries did seem to be slowing him somewhat, making him an easier target as the lead of their number lunged, swinging at massive fist directly at him whilst another looked to grapple him from behind. The one with the ability to teleport however was flanked by the remaining lightning oni, attempting to separate her from the other two whilst they were distracted with others of their number, flinging small lightning bolts at her feet in an attempt to unnerve and force her back toward the void on the edge of the plate of land.

Each acting as an individual lightning rod, her body now tied to the scythe, Nirriti fanned out her tails, making no attempt to avoid the electricity in spite of the unfathomable pain it caused and instead giving a murderous chuckle, encouraging the oni to not cease its attack even when it realised it was injuring its comrade. Doused in a pale blue aura, sparking with energy, Nirriti gave a yowl not so much in pain but in the surge of power as the demon kitsune bit down harder on the scythe, making no attempt to escape and instead channelling the same electricity through her body, expelling some of her own to convert its properties from electrical to something much more sinister before spreading it to the scythe clenched in her teeth and through to the nekojin.
“I...like it!”
Hissing enthusiastically through her teeth, the demon kitsune seemed to match the nekojin’s unusual mindset in many ways, enjoying the confrontation too much to pay her own safety or her sibling any heed, at least not yet.

Slightly surprised at being set upon in a sudden attack from the jorogumo that had previously been taking refuge within the building, Rudra snarled, taking his eyes off the now large feline and old woman with a view to lash his long tongue at his new opponent, only to find himself pinned to the ground within seconds. Wincing slightly as he felt some of his bones give way, tails partially impaled as he was met with a flurry of kicks, Rudra simply began laughing hysterically as he had done earlier, sounding much like a hyena after testing where he was pinned with a slight struggle and finding he was currently offered no escape.
“Questions, questions, questions. Too stupid to find the answer for yourself? Look around, what do you see? Is this the human realm or inferno? What elements define the two? Now to converge the two, wouldn’t that be wonderous?”
Wincing once again as one of the jorogumo’s many legs dug deeper into his tails, Rudra oddly made no attempt to retaliate, almost as though he welcomed greater injury, which was more suspicious still.

When the tree Suiteki had been hiding within finally collapsed, there was no sign of the small kappa amongst its smouldering remains, even when the oni and flamelurkers began tearing through the lumps of wood and earth, the kappa was nowhere to be found. Presently one of the fire oni gave a triumphant roar, the artefact dangling from its chain as it was lifted into the air by one of the oni’s its massive fists, further roars sounded from the oni as the flamelurkers began to lurch back toward where the other demons were still fighting the inhabitants of the inn, wary they would be trampled once again by the oni in their celebrations.

Attempting to tend to some of the more severe injuries the necromancer sustained, removing shards of glass and applying an array of herbs, Numa glanced out of the open window at hearing the bellow of the oni, the gleaming artefact held skyward signalled they had been successful. What happened to his comrade concerned him, but her wishes were adamant. Stand strong and help at any cost. Heal and protect Numa, Suiteki will fulfil her duty and Numa will fulfil his. Sealing the more significant wound caused by a protruding rib, the blood ceased after it was seared by a wave of steam. It may have been painful and hasty, but it would have to do as there were surely others that needed some medical support by now. With that, Numa remained silent but spared Nolan a small bow, respectful in spite of his blindness, then giving a small grunt the kappa waddled on and leapt from the broken window back outside. Kui paused long enough to see the necromancer was still breathing at least before following his comrade outside.

Outside it seemed the situation had worsened significantly, although a small explosion indicated the amulet had done its job, removing quite a fair number of the oni from the fight, even if many of them still remained. Wheezing somewhat as he suddenly broke into a dash, Numa moved with surprising speed and agility, hopping over and ducking around the oni in particular, his smaller if rotund form working to his advantage and drawing little attention. The kappa’s role was purely a defensive and medical one, he had been instructed not to fight and simply take a support role, an instruction he intended to follow through to the letter as he hopped over one of the now vast crevasses yet still increasing as the garden was split into clear sections.

At a glance it was clear to Numa the succubus was most in need of some medical support, although she remained in the thick of battle with several oni, a crazed bloodlust in her making any approach unwise as she could no longer deem friend from foe . A larger group of oni had amassed about her and made approach impossible for the moment regardless, but a shriek nearby indicated another was in dire need of some help also. Redirecting his path toward Himiko, Numa scuttled toward the felled Himiko and began pulling at the damaged sections of kimono on her back, hurriedly applying a smattering of healing herbs to dull the pain and hopefully ease her back to her feet. Kui on the other hand went straight for the face of the nearest electric oni still looming over her, buzzing about its eyes and ears in an attempt to distract as Numa went about his work.
