I don't think I ever used hangouts when they were around. I barely remember the dating area.
Got luck within my first week of being on Gaia and got 2 pink links, I bought my Doll Ears, and can never sell them for that reason. My first major quest item was a Kiki and I got that because of slots. I paid 26k for her.
