I liked FullMetal Alchemist more. It wasn't as close to the manga series as FMA Brotherhood was, so I didn't know what was coming more often. It's kind of like a fanfic to me in a way. c:

I disliked the direction the manga took
so I preferred the first anime.
I liked the conclusion in Shambala better.
Plus the animation, pacing, and depth were all much greater than in Brotherhood.
All brotherhood really has going for it was "it follows the manga", which isnt a positive thing for me.

Both were great, but here's how I see it.

The original took a very "dramatic TV show" route, whereas Brotherhood felt more dramatic, and more cinematic, rather than feeling like a TV show to me.

The original FMA

I didn't like the animation of Brotherhood. I didn't like the spin it took as the original had consquences for your actions where Brotherhood didn't. I didn't like Wrath, Gluttony or Pride in Brotherhood. I didn't like the whole Chinese thing. I did like Brotherhood's ending better than the original but the original could have another movie or two and wrap things up nicely as well. Overall, I'm glad I saw Brotherhood. Now, I choose to believe it doesn't even exist.

Brotherhood was awesome, but I like the older one because of one character, Wrath, plain and simple.

He was a perfect plot device, being one part bad guy, one part innocent child and one part Izumi's child.

Everyone looked awesome in both anime though! ^_^
But I just think that Brotherhood is funnier.
The only thing that doesn't make sense in both anime:
Ed's strange sense of style while changing something using alchemy.

But Since it got explained what he really was in the Brotherhood... Then I kinda accepted it..

Fullmetal Alchemist or Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood

I would have to say i like Fullmetal Alchemist, just has more to me and i love donta. I didnt like father at all from the Brotherhood.
