Welcome to one of Gaia's friendliest literate hangouts! :]

Don't get the name wrong - all people around the world are welcome here. I would change the thread's name to "The Great Literate International Hangout", but then I'd have to change all the banners and call the thread "G.L.I.H." instead. And I'm used to calling it "G.L.E.H."! D:
Either way, the word "European" in the hangout's name just symbolizes the European timezones, where most of the regulars live at. I just think that it would be great if no one had to spend time talking to self just because everyone else was in a different timezone and sleeping at the moment. So American night owls can enter the conversation as well! Come on, this is your best chance to make some new European friends. ;D

Thus, don't hesitate to join the general conversation and funky chatter, everyone is welcome here! :D No matter where you are from, as long as you're friendly and type your words the best you can, you are very welcome! <3

Before you post, please read these 10 rules. They keep this hangout in order and make it a nice place for everyone. The main ideas are in bold for lazy readers.

*~RULES~*

1. Follow these rules as well as the Gaian rules, Terms of Service.

2. You can advertise, but please don't post your banner more than three times. Everyone hates repeatedly posted big advertisements. Besides, you can always add a banner to your signature. ;]

3. Please don't bump. I appreciate your effort to keep this thread alive, I really do, but English, as well as other languages, is full of different words. I'm sure you're able to replace the bumps with something more reasonable. :3

4. Try to type your words. If you're not a native speaker of English, don't panic, we're not either. Just try to type your words correctly. It's okay if long, complicated words have a few letters wrong. After all, everyone makes mistakes and typos. We just appreciate good language, that's all. :3

5. Talk mainly in English. You can exchange a few words in your own language with people speaking the same language, but please don't start a long conversation when no one else knows what you are talking about. It may make people confused, as they have no idea what you're saying and don't know how to react. You can take longer conversations in your own language into comments or PMs.

6. Don't quote super long posts. You can quote other people's posts if that's your style, of course, and forums take care of the cutting of quotes after a while. But it would be great if you shortened the quotes every once in a while. You could also use the "calling people by their username" style (example: @Tomato: No, I haven't been there. :] Potato;; Now I gotta go, see you!).

7. Don't stretch the page overly much. A little stretch once or twice is acceptable, but no one likes to scroll up and down or left and right all the time and on every single page.

8. Be nice. This is the most important rule. Don't start blaming or insulting people for no good reasons. If someone can't spell, we can't start complaining about it. Everyone has the freedom to be themselves, and no one likes people who complain about ridiculous things or insult others. So no matter how the person types, we shall treat the person nicely.

9. You can swear if it really fits in your style, as long as your every other word isn't a swearword. Remember that there are some 13-year-olds on this site. But don't worry about that, I swear sometimes as well. :D

10. Relax. It's just a hangout. We won't eat you alive if you do something wrong. :D If you have something to ask, ask away and we'll answer. We won't complain about questions, no matter how silly they would be. :]

With these rules you'll be just fine. Relax, pass time, have fun, make new friends and participate contests - this is what Gaia was made for! :3

Q: European?! But I'm American, can I come?
A: Sure, of course! EVERYONE is welcome! The word "European" in the thread's name just means that we're often here at the European daytime. But if you happen to be on the computer at the same time as we are, which probably means that you're a night owl, don't hesitate to join the conversation! You're all very welcome! :3
I would change the thread's name to "The Great Literate International Hangout" if it didn't change the initials to G.L.I.H. I'm used to calling this place "G.L.E.H.". >.<;;

Q: What are we supposed to do here?
A: Relax, have fun and make friends. :3 This is for fun and for passing time! Chat about what you've done today, evil school, favorite hobbies, flying carpets, Pokémon, ninjaness... Anything! As long as it goes along rules. :] We love both intelligent conversation and joking around!
Taking part in others' conversations is encouraged, so feel free to be bold and quote an ongoing conversation. We love multi-conversations and new people joining in! x3
At times there are also some contests going on, so quickly check out the contest post and try participating! You may win some cash! x3 And I also give away some small gifts at times, too. ;D

Q: What goes literate mean?
A: As a matter of fact, it means a person who is able to read, but in this thread's name it means that you should try to type your words correctly. Meaning, annoying CH4t sP3ak Li3k TH1s isn't highly discouraged. Don't panic if you don't know what a certain word means or how exactly it's spelled. Not all of us are native speakers of English here, so you don't have to be perfect. It helps if you even try to spell your words correctly. Feel free to ask if you're confused! :]

Q: Can we hang out here when you're offline?
A: Sure! This is NOT "Amitia's Private Hangout", it's for everyone lonely and/or bored looking for some new friends or literate company. I would be just happy if this thread would remain active, whether I'm here or not. I'm just hosting this, it's not like I'm the über god of the hangouts or anything. x'D

Q: Can I invite my friends and hang out here with them?
A: Sure! As long as you speak English and don't mind other people joining conversation as well. Everyone is welcome, and this thread really is for everyone, not just for private parties.
And remember, the official language of this thread is English. If you happen to find friends who speak the same language (whether it's Swahili or Finnish), you can send each other PM's in that language. :3

Q: Did I just read "contests and free random gifts" from somewhere?!
A: Yep, you probably did! We sometimes have some contests going. And when I have some gold to spare, I like to gift random people something from their Wishlists.

A: Most certainly yes, I love nicknames! "Ami" and "Ami-chan" are the most common ones, but I've been called "Amie", "Amia-chan" and "ET" as well. :'D And! You can always call me "The King", the coolest title ever! >D I would sure love it if you did. (I'm weird. x'D)

Q: You shortened my name! Why?
A: That is an excellent question. o.o I don't know. D: Sometimes when I meet a person, I randomly make up a nickname from the person's username. And other times I may make up the nickname later on, seeing as I'm not always on a clever enough mood when someone walks in. x'D
But if you don't like the nicknames I've randomly made up for you or don't like my familiar style of using nicknames the first time we meet, I'm sorry! D: Just tell me and I can call you something else.

Q: I'd love to come in, but I don't know when you're on... What's your timezone?
A: I live in Finland, so my timezone is +2 GMT. It's pretty much in the middle of the European timezones. If you're in California, just add 10 hours and you'll get my time. Yep, we're about 8-11 hours ahead of Americans.

G.L.E.H. PICTURES // COMICS

It all started in the summer 2007.
A bit after G.L.E.H.'s creation, when the thread had become active and a nice (as well as random) place to hang out in, I made this group picture of the very first regulars of the thread:



A bit after that, still summer 2007, I realized that besides me, G.L.E.H. has two other Finnish members: Mechantece (SM-Beddy-kun) and Lyopi (Lynx). I also found out that Gaia has two Finnish guilds and a few Finnish hang-outs. That is when I ended up creating this little comic of us Finnish Gaians.

Now it has been a long time since that little comic of us Finnish G.L.E.H. members, but I'm working on a three parts long G.L.E.H. comic where the Golden Regulars become The Great Literate Rangers of the Weird Table. Each of us is introduced, after which we get trapped by extremely soft chairs, go hacker hunting and get a brand new headquarters. Finally the end of rangers arrives and each of us faces a new, hopeful future - but we remain friends forever.
Edit: Like everyone knows, I finished the first and second part. :3 But unfortunately I lost the third part. D; I seriously have no idea where it is! I have to try and find it. >.<;;
