Well, I'm sorry to break it to you, but you're not the only person in the world that has an opinion. And books don't just get awards and praise for nothing. Yes, the critique is a little dramatic, but life is drama. And these books have drama that I'm upset you can't recognize.

You're upset we can't recognize the drama? Isn't that getting a tad emotional?

Yes, the book has some drama, and that may be enough for some people. However, the fact remains that a good half of the book is spend describing Edward smoldering eyes, or Bella wishing she could be with him. For me, it was a snooze.
Ok, fine. But, another thing. The characters AREN'T perfect. They have flaws. Edward for example had some anger issues. Bella is confused and a bit stupid at times. Just because some of her characters aren't human doesn't mean that they don't have human qualities. For example, human feelings. They have them, they just aren't used to having to use them.
Really, the only excitement is in the last hundred pages. The climax is a page long. XP Reading about someone dissing her friends and moaning about her boyfriend =/= equal drama.

EDIT:

But their flaws are viewed as endearing. Forinstance: It was stupid of Bella to go "rescue" her mother like she did, but we're supposed to be left thinking, "wow, that was so brave and self-sacrificing!" Yeah, Ed goes berserk when James is after Bella, but we're supposed to think, "it's because he loves her so much!!112!1" And so on. Not once are we supposed to think poorly of them, or do they do stupid things that don't reflect their characters well.
Hence the reason that there's going to be 4 or more books in the series. Twilight was just a start off. Bella doesn't have any close friends. Not alot of people in the story understand Bella. Once again, there's plenty of drama, especially in New Moon. Trust me, I know.

Even if the most "action" happens towards the end of the book, it is by no means the most "exciting" part. And, by the way, if you want more action you should read an action book, not a romance.

Also, that's what happens in real life. So it helps people connect to the characters.

Nonono. A author has to ensure quality in the first book. They can't just be like, "well sure there was no plot in the first one, but the rest will make up for it!" Each book must be able to stand on it's own.

@DarkAngel: For me it was. I've said myself (on, like, the previous page? Seriously, read the last couple of pages before posting, people!) that you can have conflict without action, especially in a romance/character driven work. But I found no other conflict. It was all lovey-dovey mush. She didn't even freak when she found out he was a vampire, for godssake!
There was a plot to Twilight. And the author did ensure quality in the first book. The plot was simple, but it was there. The quality was great. Basically this whole argument is based on what different people like and their opinions. We have different opinions in this case. Which is why we are sitting here wasting our time arguing about it.

i did read the other posts, so don't assume things. Twilight was a quality book. It had a plot, and just because it was "lovey-dovey mush" as you called it doesn't mean there wasn't a plot. And what did you expect from a romance? Sheesh.

And so what if she didn't freak out. Some people handle things better than others and if you love someone it shouldn't matter if they aren't normal or even human, and if I had been in her place I wouldn't have cared either. By the way, if you didn't "see" any other conflict, you should probably A) reread the book, B) actually read it or C) get some glasses!

I mean, its not that hard to see the other conflicts, minor as they may be. I mean, one is the fact that Bella has to turn her back on humanity, another is that she's stuck in a place she hates to make her mom happy, she's at a new school where everyone knows who she is...do I really have to go on?
@Rose: It's an outmoded belief that opinions can't be wrong. I believe that opinions can be swayed and points proven. If you think this debate is a waste of time, by all means, leave.

@Dark: I find it hard to believe, as you're just recycling old posts that have been rebutted, and not taking the rebuttals into account confused

My point was that freaking out would have been something. She hardly had any reaction at all! To anything!

Also, the book is about, without a doubt, the relationship between Bella and Edward. The fact that this relationship has no bumps, no buildup, and no depth leads to little plot. Among other things. Her turning her back on reality humanity never affects her, and living in Forks only bothers her until she hooks up with Ed. And whining =/= conflict.

And lastly: You know you've won in a debate when the other side resorts to personal attacks, so you may want to rethink that "ASSume" comment.
Well, then stop complaining about how much you hate the book. Don't read it again. Just keep your stupid opinion to yourself then. Take the book out of your life if you hate it. Quit trying to be a drama queen. We get that you like arguing, but please, at least be good at it.

Rose: This is unrelated to the arguement but I so love you and I completely agree!

Min: I never said it wasn't about Bella and Edward. There relationship has a ton of bumps, the main one being:

HE CAN KILL HER IN A HEARTBEAT AND HE WANTS HER BLOOD AS IN THOUGHT ABOUT KILLING HER AND THE ENTIRE SCIENCE CLASS/SECRETARY TO GET IT.

And no, I'm not yelling, just trying to make a point and have the "bump" in their relationship stand out to you.

Uh, I'd like to think I am good, seeing as you're resorting to personal attacks and telling me to stop debating instead of rebutting my posts. I'm obviously not the one at a loss for logic here. As I said, I'm not seeking you out. I like complaining about these books because it teachs me something about writing and life in general. If you do not like me, get the hell out of the thread! Don't tell me to leave my home thread or I will go post in yours.

@Dark: Oh sure. He can kill her. But never once do you think he's going to. Never once does she think he's going to. He only mentions it a couple of times in Twilight. There goes that conflict rolleyes

First off, hello again :3

Now back to the main program:
I agree and disagree with this statement (sorry, I see things in grey a lot if you haven't noticed). If you were addressing only Twilight, then I agree with you. If you were addressing the series in general, I have to say Edward did manage to piss me off at the very end of New Moon. The first chapter of Eclipse managed to do this too, both mainly because Edward forbids Bella from seeing Jacob and is pretty stubborn and dominating about it.
OhmygodFushigi! *Glompattack* Thank god! And I can't argue with you on New Moon, only on page 53XD But the books have to be able to stand on their own, and that doesn't cut it.
Ok fine. You want an argument? Here's one. Some people like these books, some people don't. And books are predictable alot of the times, like i've said. Bella almost died. Edward loves her. She loves him. It's a romance. You don't sound like you like romances. I'm still trying to understand why you are arguing the topic. Why don't you move on and read another book? There's plenty of other books. If you didn't like this one, that's good for you. I'm sure you have read other books that you don't like. There are many books out there that are so much stupider. Lots of people like this book. Lots don't. Stop trying to prove to other people that like it that it's stupid. You're not helping anything. Just pissing some people off and making some people glad that they can relate to somebody about it.
