I like this thread. You're right, the relationship between Bella and Edward is founded on the grounds that she smells good and he's hot. They must be meant to be. rolleyes

Well, actually, no. He did save her, like, three times. A boyfriend who rescues me is pretty cool.

But on the other hand, he has little personality (maybe cause he's dead rolleyes ). If I were Bella, I'd have thanked him, given him a box of chocolate, and gone for a guy, with, say, personality, flaws, and less of an obsession with my blood O.o...

But, then, wait; is it more impressive for a godlike man of "hotness" to push me out of the way of a car crash (wait, did he throw the car? I forget..) or for a normal dude to do the same thing? I'd SO fall for the "normal dude". There is nothing awesomer than a guy who risks his life for you. Edward sort of just... lifts his vampiric pinky, seeing as he is impossible to kill without a handy spork of doom. Now, if he went ino a burning knife factory for her, I'd be impressed a bit.

Oh, yeah, I forgot about him saving her life (which is surprising, because I only finished the book about 2 weeks ago xd ).

But I agree with you completely-I'dve gone for a guy who has some personality and was less....dangerous.
Though I suppose it's very unlikely that Edward will ever die. How many handy sporks of doom have you seen lying about?

And off topic: Your art is adorable. I love it.

Awwthanks ^_^

I take bravery, creativity, personality and intelligence over strength and "hawtnesh", so maybe that's why I don't like Edward... If he was less flawless, a little awesomer (you know, stuff like, plays the oboe/flute, draws, has pet chinchillas, gives me pickles, has a singing voice, etc.), and thought to make some stupid jokes in the book, I might actually care about him. But, he doesn't. So I don't like him. The end.

That, and I'm still not sure if I want a boyfriend that could (and wants to) kill me with a flick of his thumb. sweatdrop

I am stunned by the loveliness of the antific. Now I feel the need to contribute to the humor... but alas, my English teacher has assigned a quartet of essays over vacation and I have had the time to complete not one.
Perhaps if I get to them I'll have time for a "Twilight in five minutes." I always enjoyed reading those for Lord of the Rings...

And the sparkly vs. spork picture was magnificent. whee

Hmm.... Usually I can just let a mediocre piece of YA "literature" pass and not concern myself too much with it... But it's the fan's who say, "It's the best book I've ever read... And I don't usually read," that really annoy me.

At which point I'm always tempted to reply, "Obviously."

><;;

*nods*
"It's the best book I've ever read... and I read a lot." Would be much more impressive, methinks.
I love your username, by the way. 'Dead and bloody,' yes?

And that makes it all worthwhile.
Don't even mention that name. I turn around and school and normal girls who don't read books are reading Twilight. Twilight is acceptable and isn't the worst book in existence like gossip girls or something. but personally i prefer Blue Bloods. More interesting characters are normal. Bella is too perfect. I can't stand her. Edward is like that too. What is wrong with him? He's too perfect but that's not a fault, well it is but isn't.

Personally, I'm not sure why I clicked this thread.
Usually when I see things like this, my eye twitches and I get all flustered over something silly.
But you bring up good points. (Only four good points might I add ....but who's counting?)
But I must inform you, (By the way I've only read the first post, so I don't know if anyone has said much of the same.) it is a Young Adult romance novel! And being the hopeless romantic adolescent I am, I absolutely loved both books, and can't wait for the up and coming book.
So now I bring up my counter points.

Bella and Edward = Mary-Sue and Gary-Stu respectively
Yes, they are like that. But the point of Young Adult romance novels like Twilight is to get away from reality. If a character has too many flaws it reminds us too much of the real world. No one wants to read a book about a "dumb, fat, ugly, snaggle-toothed" girl who no one likes.

- Why do they love each other anyway? She smells good and he’s hot… what?
Does anyone need a reason to love someone?

- It's just not healthy to teach young girls that True Love involves the guy watching you while you sleep. Not to mention the messes in New Moon
Not sure which messes you mean, but there were a lot.
Anyway. It doesn't teach girls that, Edward is a vampire.(Which is no excuse) But I must admit when I read that he watched her sleep I said "Good Lord, he's a freaking vampire stalker!"

- Edward is HOT. We get it. Good for you.
Not only is he hot, he's a vampire too! ;D

I understand that you don't like Twilight. But girls across the globe absolutely loved it, and they probably wanted to murder you for saying "such blasphemous things about their beloved Edward."

I have a slight problem with you saying no one wants to read about a dumb, fat, ugly, snaggle-toothed girl that no one likes. If you don't like those features on people, I suggest you walk up to them and shove it in thier faces, not ours. And while I respect your opinion, I think it's rather unfair that you chose to pick on all the dumb, fat, et cetera people just to tell us that no one wants to read about them. Does everyone want to read about the pretty, smart, skinny, blah blah blah person?

No. I like Warriors ^_^

To tell the truth, I only read up to Moonlight in the new series. But we are dislikers of the vampire novel.

Warriors is a wonderful guilty pleasure! I'm cat obsessed, so...

This is one of my favorite series! Small world...

Exactly. Pretty characters are way more common than ugly ones.

Although it's funny that a Twilight lover would put down dumb people, as Bella is, um, not the wittiest character I've encoutered...

Anyways, I wanted to do a Twilight in five minutes too! Except, I would probably do it in blob chibi comic form with a bunch of really bad jokes. Yay for photoshop airbrush sparkles! XD
I was forced to read it... HOMG, plot holes and sparkles galore. A friend of mine made me read it, I want to kill her now. There're over nine books in the series, and each one has more plot holes than the last! gonk I must introduce her to Anne Rice sometime (I like Anne Rice, though her later books are kind of... bleh... x[)

Twilight and Eragon are like twins - plot holes, cliches, plagarisms, and sparkles abound. The only difference is one's about dragons, the other's about vampires... The point-of-view is different too (that's probably just me, the whole 'those two books are twins' theory...)

I can forgive Eragon because it was written... basically, as a bad fanfic, from the mind of a sixteen-year-old, or so. As an early teenager, I really can't appreciate good literature--- Steinbeck, Salinger, Dante and Shakespeare--- to its full potential, because that's the point in my life where I can enjoy badly written things that pursue things reality can't give me.

So, I can relate. <__<

But... for a mature adult author to be writing crap like Twilight? Makes me sick. One would have hoped that an author with a bit more experience under their belt would be able to make less flimsy characters.
Wow. Lots of posts. Good thing I finally caught up on them all. xD

I was away bonding with my new puppy. ^.^

I've also been writing. Although... I must remember that paper towels work really well as writing paper when I don't have any on me. That's what I ended up doing at work yesterday; writing since it was so slow. And it's a really great idea. ^.^
I believe I'm thinking of a different Twilight that falls into the mystery category. There's no Edward in it to my knowledge, though I didn't like it enough to get past the first fourteen pages so don't count on me knowing much at all.
