I am curious about this because ..... there are alot of silly old time stuperstitions ( I call them stupid cause black cats only brought my family good luck) don't walk under a ladder, don't let a black cat cross your path, ( the black cat that adopted my family turned my dad into an animal lover, he was never like that before and never been the same since!) I call that LUCKY!, actually I called him Midnight heart . let's see, they say don't break a mirror.... neutral ooops too late, 7 years bad luck right??should be 13 years bad luck, don't you think? but is there any truth to this mysterious and oh so magical number????? please tell me?

question What do you believe? is 13 really a magical number and why on Friday? is it just Hollywood's version of it that makes us scared? what is it that makes us scared of Friday the thirteenth? twisted

i did some research and well.... razz theres a number of reasons for example, the end of the mayan calendar's 13 baktun is superstitiously feared as a harbinger of the apocalyptic razz is one of them, you can turn 13 into a hangmans noose cause it can break a neck if its anything less, the last supper there were 13 people, counting christ and the twelve apostles and theres also friday 13 October 1307 king philip iv of france ordered the arrest of the knights templar also the point of adolescence is 13 lol the begining of hell for parents. razz as for black cats they say that a devil is disguised as a black cat to cause mayhem (-.-" i have a black cat who causes mayhem when i don't pay attention to him) in great britain there known for good luck, also if a lady owns a black cat she will have many suitor ^^" however contradictory in the western world if a lady had a black cat then she is witch and the black cat is her familiar -.-" the whole if a cat crosses your road is really usually the casinos. gambling world, it is believed that if, while traveling to a casino, a black cat crosses a gambler's road or path, that person should not go to the casino; most players believe that black cats bring bad luck. as for good luck a ships cat which is good luck gives luck to the sailors if a wife of a sailor owns many black cats her husband will come home unscratched. now pirates of the 19th century, if a black cat walks towards someone, that person will have bad luck if a black cat walks away from someone then that person will have good luck if a black cat walks onto a ship and then walks off it, the ship is doomed to sink on its next trip.

"Mirrors are said to be a reflection of the soul, and they were often used in traditional witchcraft as tools for scrying or performing other spells. It is also said that mirrors cannot lie. They can show only the truth, so it is a bad omen to see something in a mirror which should not be there. Also there is a European legend that a newborn child should not see a mirror until its first birthday as its soul is still developing. If the child sees its reflection it is said that it will die." <—— wikipedia -.-"
mirror is believed to reflect part of the soul meaning, breaking a mirror will break part of the soul. although the soul is said to heal in seven years making it unbroken. razz thats all i can really give you @.e" lol ^^"

Paraskevidekatriaphobia is the medical term for the fear of Friday the 13th.

One legend holds that on a Friday the 13th in 1306, King Philip of France arrested the Knights Templar and began torturing and murdering them. He did this at the behest of the Catholic Church who wanted to take control of the international banking and money system the Templars had set up. The Templars had simply gotten too big for the Church to control and they were holding A LOT of the Church's money. The Pope branded them heretics - punishment: death - problem: solved. Unlucky indeed, for the Templars anyway.

Fridays and 13s were already significant in Christian and Western culture, associated with Satan, pagan rites and the early Christian "Sacred Feminine" that was an affront to Saul of Tarsus' (a.k.a. "Saint Paul" or "Apostle Paul" ) carefully structured patriarchy designed to place women in subjection to men within the faith and keep them there all the way down to the domestic family unit.

Many traditions evolved from these early, dark superstitions: public executions on Fridays, 13 steps on a gallows, etc. So, these early fears became a self-fulfilling prophecy: they became unlucky (for some) because they were already thought to be unlucky.

Today, we don't question the origins of these irrational fears and superstitions. We just "don't take chances" with them. We avoid black cats, broken mirrors, spilt salt, ladders. So, we just "do" - and we shop at Wal-Mart and eat high fructose corn syrup. As long as somebody with apparent authority tells us to...

Hollywood didn't make these superstitions, they merely capitalize on them.

So, is there anything to fear about Friday the 13th? Nah. I went to the casino on Friday the 13th and turned $5 into $160.

Now, I'm not entirely certain of the factual nature of this because the place that I heard it was kind of iffy, but what I heard was that there was a group of knights who had managed to blackmail the Catholic church somewhen in the thirteenth century. The Church did not take kindly to this and one day, when they were all inside their dwelling at worship, goons hired by the Church burned the place to the ground with them in it. According to the legend I heard (which may be very wrong) the massacre occurred on a Friday the Thirteenth.
