I've had relatives whine at me about that. Occasionally if I come home and put my shopping bags on the table and they find out that there are shoes in one of those bags, a couple of my relatives will move them onto the floor.

My mum is also a bit superstitious about not opening umbrellas inside. It makes no sense.

Your relatives need to calm down.
The umbrella things makes sense on a practical level- in close quarters you're more likely to poke someone's eye out. But when you're an adult around other adults, come on! It's children that are more likely to hurt someone with an umbrella. Bad luck, indeed!

My stepmom says if you let someone sweep under your feet you won't get married. And if your shirt gets wet when washing dishes you won't get married.

Wow. I've never heard those ones. The one about your shirt getting wet is a bit extreme. It's a wonder anyone has gotten married at all.

How can new shoes on a table go wrong?? Shouldn't new shoes be the only shoes you can put on a table?

Putting any shoes on a table is supposed to be unlucky...doesnt matter if they are new or not
