Welcome to Gaia! ::

Hey there kids,

Frank Franzetta was an AMAZING artist. The reference to him may slide past a few of you. If you read science fiction, or any form of fantasy, or comic book chances are you held a book with his painting on it.

Most of his art is a bit... well lets face it nude.

He lived an interesting life, and is considered a very influential person in art.

He drew for Mad magazine, for some of you younger kids.

And the comic book Vampirella

While known very well for Vampirella he was probably more well known for his work on warriors and barbarian.
Especially one work of art known as the death dealer

I think it's a generational thing...plus with the Internet Generation they tend to NOT be interested in things outside of the Web world. So legendary artists like Frank and everyone else who's been around for ages fall under the radar in terms of notoriety because they're not controversial enough to make RSS feeds or have pictures of themselves splattered all over Celebrity gossip sites.

Yes, it's truly sad. However I'm happy for those of us who do know this guy and are taking the time out to let others know how great he was.

I want a morningstar flail just like that one. I wonder if any weaponsmiths sell them online....

(Now that I think about it, why aren't there any morningstar flails in Age of Conan? The mind boggles.... confused )

But thank you for making this topic, AdventSugar. It needed to be said. smile

I'm ashamed to admit, that while I know some of his work, I did not know just who exactly Frank Frazetta was. However, he was an amazing artist, and he will be missed. Especially now by myself included since I am now aware of the contributions he made that I enjoyed in Literature and fantasy art.

That's kind of amazing.

I kind of wished I knew this before he died, you know?

I think the general feeling right now is "who the f is Frank Frazetta?" which is kind of disrespectful.... but understandable at the same time.
